Description

D 1952 J. D. LUCERO 2,623,748
PROJECTILE Original Filed Feb. 15, 1946 A'I'I'D RN EYE Patented Dec. 30, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PROJECTILE Juan Draghi Lucero, Ciudad, Argentina Griginal application February 15, .1946, Serial No. 647,910. Divided and this application April22, 1948, Serial No. 22,565
of my application filed February 15, 1946, Serial No. 647,910, now Patent No. 2,504,030.
The game can be played by projecting the projectile through the air vertically or by projecting the projectile over a smooth surface such as in the manner of playing shufileboard or similar games.
An object of the invention is to provide a projectile or puck which is provided with a plurality of spaced air chambers and projections, the projections having patches mounted thereover, there being a, valve for controlling the flow of air into the chambers.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a projectile;
Figure 2 is an end view of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a side view of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the invention;
Figure 6 is an end view of Figure 5;
Figure 7 is a longitudinal, sectional view on the line 1! of Figure 5 and Figure 8 is a transverse, sectional view on the line 88 of Figure 5.
Referring more in detail to the drawings and more especially to Figures 1 to 4, inclusive, the form of projectile shown therein is designated by the numeral 10.
The projectile i0 is solid, and made of any suitable wear resistant material. It is rectangular in shape, and can be made of any size or shape consistent with the desires of the players that use it in playing a suitable game of skill.
Each end of the projectile has a transverse medial line H, which divides the end into two sections. The sections are colored in any well known manner. The section ['2 may be, for example, colored white on one end, and yellow on the other end. The section I 3 may be blue on one end, and red on the other. The colors are exemplary only, and other colors may be used, as desired.
Each section, at the center thereof, adjacent the outer faces of the projectile, is provided with an arrow head It, with the front thereof directed toward the face of the projectile.
This arrow head is used in playing the game 2 when an attempt is made to havejthe arrow head placed on a target in corresponding relation to a marking on the target, as shown in my co-pending application, now Patent No. 2,504,030.
Each face of the projectile is provided with longitudinally extending ribs l5, which are formed on the face in spaced parallel relation to each other. The ribs are to be used in cooperation with my projecting stick shown in my copending application filed of even date and now Patent No. 2,504,030.
Each face of the projectile is provided with diagonal demarcation lines it, at each corner thereof, and spaced inwardly from each end of the projectile, are the transverse lines I! which are in parallel relation to the edges of the ends of the projectile.
These lines are used in obtainin scores during the course of playing the game in somewhat the same manner as is the arrow head Id. If it is desired to use the projectile as a tethered projectile, some form of tethering means, such as a chain or the like, is connected to the ring 18 secured to one side of the projectile by the screw eye l0. Otherwise, the projectile is used as a free projectile.
In the form of the projectile shown in Figures 5 to 8, inclusive, the projectile 20 shown therein is susceptible of being inflated. For this purpose, the projectile is provided with four relatively spaced chambers 2!, which are all connected by the communicating ducts 22. A valve 23, connected to and communicating with one of the chambers 2i, provides a means of admitting air under pressure into the chambers for the inflation of the outer walls of the chambers forming the faces of the projectile.
Upon inflation of the projectile, the walls of the chambers bulge outwardly to form protuberances 2d, which function in the same manner as the ribs I5 on the projectile l0. Patches 25, fixed to the faces of the projectile over the protuherances 24, prevent wear on the projectile. This projectile is made of rubber or any other material susceptible of being inflated, and the patches are vulcanized or otherwise secured to the projectile.
Each end of the projectile is provided with a recess 2'6, and the edges of the recess are bevelled as at 21. The recess is used to receive the end of the projecting stick shown in my co-pending application, now Patent No. 2,504,030, when the projectile is projected over a smooth surface.
The projectile is used in playing a game, and
claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A projectile of the type described, comprising a substantially rectangular shaped inflatable body, there being a plurality of equally spaced chambers arranged in said body, ducts connecting said chambers to each other, a valve for admitting air under pressure into one of said chambers to expand the outer walls of the body contiguous to the chambers on the top and bottom surfaces of the body to form projections on the top and bottom surfaces of said body, and patches mounted on the top and bottom surfaces of the body contiguous to said chambers, the portions of the top and bottom walls adjacent said chambers being sufiiciently thin to permit the formation of the projections on said walls when air is admitted to said chambers.
