This invention relates to breast supporting garments, and more particularly to a breast supporting attachment capable of use with conventional brassires.

It is well known that many women suffer from ill figured breasts due to various causes. In some cases, the breasts may be underdeveloped o1' of small development, which results in a small or fiat appearing bust. In other cases, the breasts may be overdeveloped or of large development, so that they are heavy and pendulous. Even when the breasts are of normal size, they frequently suffer deleterious organic changes, as where ligaments have broken down and the tissues no longer support the breasts properly and cause them to sag. In all such cases, the body suffers from lack of beauty.

To remedy this, there have been proposed, heretofore, various brassires and other garments which were intended to provide suilcient support for poorly shaped breasts so as to enhance their appearance. Such garments, however, have not found wide acceptance for various reasons. For example, some are so designed that they bind the breasts to an extent which is ultimately injurious. Others are designed for use with abnormal breasts of average size and shape. However, since breasts vary widely in size, shape and condition, it is obvious that such garments more often than not fail to suit the requirements of a particular person. Still others, while free from the aforementioned disadvantages, cause great discomfort to the wearer; and still others are quite expensive.

The primary object of my invention is to provide an improved breast supporting garment which will be free from the aforementioned and other objections found in prior art supports for the indicated purpose.

More particularly, it is an object of my invention to provide an improved breast supporting garment which can be worn conveniently by any Woman, regardless of the size or condition of her breasts, to provide adequate support for the breasts and to impart to the bust a fullness and shape that will enhance the figure.

Another object of my invention is to provide a novel breast support which will fit and can be Worn with any conventional brassire and Which, together therewith, will hold the breasts in a form calculated to impart beauty to the bust.

A further object of my invention is to provide an improved breast supporting garment which can be readily adjusted to the requirements of a particular user.

Still another object of my invention is to provide an improved breast supporting garment which is easy and simple to apply to the body and which can be Worn with great comfort.

It is also an object of my invention to provide a novel breast support as aforesaid which is simple in form and construction, which is easy to manufacture and inexpensive in cost, and which is highly efficient in use.

In accordance with my invention, the breast support is formed of a belt or band which is applied to the inner, front portion of any conventional brassire below the cups thereof. At points corresponding to the vertical center line of each cup, there are provided pockets in the band into which are inserted pad supporting members of inverted L-form. The uppermost or horizontal portions of these membersr extend forwardly into the cups and they support, within and near the bottom of each cup, a suitably formed breast supporting p-ad which ts under the lower and posterior portion of each breast. When the brassire provided with my novel support is applied to the body, the pads raise the breasts 'to a suitable position Within the cups. In the case of heavy or pendulous breasts, the pads support the Weight thereof, while for sagging and underdeveloped breasts, they provide suitable fullness. In any case, the pads help to impart to the bust a soft, well rounded and dignified appearance which enhances the female figure.

The invention will be more fully understood and appreciated from the following description of one embodiment thereof when read in connection with the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a breast supporting garment in accordance with my present invention shown applied to a female gure,

Figure 2 is a perspective view of a brassire and breast supporting attachment according to my invention as seen from the rear and with the attachment removed from the brassire,

Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 but with the breast supporting attachment shown. attached or applied to the brassire, and

Figure 4 is an enlarged, fragmentary, sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, there is shown a more or less conventional brassire l having a front section 3 formed with a pair of breast receiving cups 5. Behind the front section 3, `so as to be Worn under the brassire, is a breast supporting attachment 'I comprising a band 9 formed with a pair of pookets II at such locations that they are substantially in line with the vertical center lines of the cups 5. Within each pocket II is a pad supporting member I3 of inverted L-form, the vertical leg I3a of each member I3 being removably received in its pocket Il and the horizontal arm ISb thereof extending forwardly into the adjacent associated cup near the lower portion thereof. Attached to each horizontal arm ISD, as by a loop I'I or in any other suitable manner, is a substantially triangular breast supporting pad I5, the pads I5 being received each in a separate one of the pockets 5 when the attachment 'l is afiixed to the brassire.

For attaching the attachment 'l' to the inner, front portion of the brassire I, there are provided a plurality of cooperative securing elements I9 on the brassire and 2I on the attachment 1. These may be, respectively, male and female snap fasteners, for example. To permit vertical adjustment of the attachment I on the brassire i and, hence, adjustment of the horizontal arms I3?) and their pads l5 to dierent elevations within the cups l5, there are provided a plurality of vertically spaced sets of securing elements I9 on the brassire I but only one set of securing elements 2| on the attachment This adjustment is desirable for proper accommodation of the garment to the needs of each individual user in order to insure a comfortable t, a proper uplift, and a flattering bustline.

The members I3 may be formed of any suitable, stiff material such as steel, bone, plastic or the like. Any material which is sufficiently stiff to substantially retain its form in use is suitable. The pads l5 may have any desired covering material over a ller of cotton, foam rubber, hair cloth or similar ller that is soft and will be comfortable to the wearer. It will be obvious that the attachment 'I and the brassire I may be dispensed together as a unit, or the two may be dispensed separately. In either case, the attachment 'l may be used with any suitable brassire by simply providing on the latter the securing elements I9 at suitable locations. Once the attachment 'l has been located to suit the requirements of the wearer, the garment is put on in the usual manner, the pads I5 tting under the lower and posterior portions of the breasts 23, as clearly shown in Figure 4. Thus, the pads I5 provide full support for heavy, pendulous breasts, while raising underdeveloped or sagging breasts to a position wherein the breasts assume a well rounded, dignified appearance which greatly enhances the female gure.

From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that I have provided a novel breast supporting attachment for brassires which is safe and easy to use and which can be used with great eiect by women having various types of busts.

I claim as my invention:

1. A breast supporting garment comprising, in combination, a brassire having a front section including a pair of breast receiving cups, a band removably connected to said front section and extending across the lower portion thereof beneath said cups, means on said band below each of said cups providing a pair of pockets each of which is in substantial alignment with a separate one of said cups, means within each of said pockets including a member extending forwardly into the cup aligned therewith only in a region near the bottom thereof, and a pad on each said member within its associated cup adapted to be received under the lower portion of a breast of the wearer for providing support therefor.

2. A breast supporting garment according to claim 1 wherein said band is adjustable on said brassire front section for mounting thereon at different elevations with respect to said cups whereby said pads may be adjusted to different elevations Within said oups.

3. A breast supporting attachment for use with brassires comprising a band adapted to be worn on the inside of a brassire, a pair of forwardly extending members removably supported on said band for reception within the cups of a brassire only at regions near the bottoms thereof, and a pad on each said member adapted to be received within the cups of the brassire and under the breasts of the wearer to provide support therefor.

4. A breast supporting attachment according to claim 3 wherein said band is provided with pockets, and wherein said members are carried in said pockets.

5. A breast supporting attachment according to claim 3 wherein said members are formed of relatively stiff material and said pads are formed of relatively soft material.

6. A breast supporting attachment for use with brassires having a pair of breast receiving cups, said attachment comprising a band adapted to be worn on the inside of such a brassire, a pair of pockets on said band at such locations as to be aligned each with a separate one of said cups, a pair of pad supporting members of inverted L- form to provide vertical and horizontal portions, said members having their vertical portions received each in a separate one of said pockets and their horizontal portions extending forwardly for reception of each within a separate one of said cups only at a region near the bottom thereof, and a pad on each of said horizontal portions adapted to be received in separate ones of said cups and under the breasts of the wearer to provide support for the breasts.
