This invention relates to a skirt waist band.

The invention comprehends a ready-made skirt waist band composed of two elongated fabric sections which are respectively doubled over at one end with the doubled over ends thereof arranged in overlapping relation and provided with interengageable fastening means for connecting the sections together, the other end of each section being free and the sections together being of a length greater than that required for the band when attached to the skirt to permit of adjustment in sewing together of the free ends of the sections.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of a ready-made skirt waist band of the indicated character adapted to be secured to the inside of the skirt with the doubled over ends arranged at the placket for releasably conmeeting the same in closed relation.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, reference is now made to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a skirt waist band constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the same applied to a, skirt.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the waist band consists of two elongated ribbon-like fabric sections l and II each having one end thereof doubled over so as to form end portions I2 and I3 of two ply thickness. The end portions 12 and I3 are provided with spaced interengageable fastening means which as illustrated consist of interengageable stud and socket means 14 and I for securing the sections together in end to end relation. The sections l0 and II are of a length gerater than that required to form the completed band on the inside of the skirt so that the free ends l6 and H of the sections respectively may be adjusted and secured together to provide the desired size of the band with the doubled over end portions l2 and I3 arranged at the placket in the skirt.

In applying the band to a skirt such as the skirt A, the upper edge portion of the skirt is inturned as at l8 and the sections l0 and H are secured on the inside of the skirt with the inturned upper edge portion 18 of the skirt overlying the upper edge portion of the sections. As illustrated, the section In is secured to the skirt by a line of stitching l9 extending longitudinally of the upper edge thereof and through the skirt and the inturned edge portion 18 with the doubled over end portion of the band terminating flush with the edge of the placket. The opposite section II of the band is secured to the inner face of the skirt by a line of stitching 2| which extends longitudinally of the upper edge thereof and through the skirt and the inturned upper edge portion IS with the doubled over end portion 13 of the band protruding beyond the edges 20 and 22 of the placket so as to overlie the opposite doubled over end portion l2 of the band. The doubled over end portion [3 is thereby free for connecting or disconnecting the interengageable stud and socket means I4 and I5 for closing or opening the placket. The free ends It and ll of the sections are secured together by a vertical line of stitching 23 to complete the band and connect the same with the skirt.

There is thus provided a ready-made skirt band which may be readily applied to any type of skirt and which may be adjusted to fit any size thereof.

What is claimed is:

The combination of a skirt having a placket opening and a waist band for adjustably tightening the skirt about the waist of the wearer and for closing the placket, said waist band consisting of two elongated sections each having one end thereof doubled over so as to form end portions of two-ply thickness and said sections together being of greater length than that required to form the completed band whereby said sections may be secured together to provide the desired size of band, one of the doubled over end portions terminating flush with one edge of the placket and the other doubled over end portion protruding freely beyond the edge of the placket into overlying relation with the other end portion, said skirt having its upper edge portion inturned into overlying relation with the upper edge portion of the sections and secured thereto continuously about the upper edge portion of the skirt with the sections located on the inside of the skirt and the outside thereof covered by the upper portion of the skirt, and interengageable fastening means carried by said doubled over end portions for adjustably securing the sections together and for closing the placket.
