Description

1952 o. L.IMATTHEWS COMBINED TAPE. HOLDER AND PLASTER PALLET Filed Dec. 15, 1948 IN V EN TOR. 02/1 '22 L. Mafiiz 9 W5 Patented Oct. 28, 1952 JOMBINED TAPE HOLDER AND PLASTER PALLET thel Lewis lliatthews, Abilene, Tex. Application December 13, 1948, Serial No. 65,030
, 2 Claims. (01. 72-135 This invention relates to tools for use by plasterers.
In the formation of walls for buildings, particularly interior walls where plaster board is used, a tape or other strip is secured between the abutting edges of the sheets. An object of this invention is to provide in combination with the pallet used by the worker, a means for holding a roll of tape below the surface of the pallet and including a plurality of cutters spaced about the roll so that the tape can be cut from any side of the pallet.
Another object of this invention is to provide a combination of this kind which will not add undue weight to the pallet, and at the same time will not interfere with the normal use of the pallet.
With the above and other objects in View, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawing and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Inthe drawing,
Figure 1 is a bottom plan view-of a combination tape holder and plaster pallet constructed according to an embodiment of my invention,
Figure 2' is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, D
Figure 3-is a fragmentary sectional View taken on the line 33 of Figure 2,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line l l of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral. Ill designates generally a plate or pallet used conventionally by a plasterer for holding moist plaster, and the plate or pallet H3 which'is of substantially square shape in plan, has secured thereto an elongated handle generally designated as H. The handle H in the present instance is formed with a relatively large diameter upper portion 12 and a smaller diameter handle portion [3.
In order to provide a means whereby the plaster board, including the pallet or plate Ill and the handle ll may be used for supporting a roll of tape used in wall corners, between joints of rock plaster board or the like, I have provided a cylindrical bushing M which is mounted on the upper handle portion i2. A circular plate [5 engages about the inner or lower portion of the bushing 14 and the plate I5 is secured in spaced relation with respect to the plate or pallet [0 by means of posts or spacer members It which are secured-by fastening means H to plate l5 and extending into abutting relation with plate Ill. In the present instance there are three of these spacer mem-- bers l6, and each spacer member [6 has fixed thereto a sleeve I8 on which is securedone end of a double edge tape cutting blade I9, Sleeves it serve to space the blades Hi from spacer member I6.
The blade l9 extends between the two plates l0 and I5 and is substantially flush at its outer cured to the handle portion [2 by means of a sleeve 22 which is fixed by means of a pin 23 to the handle portion l2, and which abuts against the inner orlower end of the bushing M, handle l2, bushing l4 and sleeve 22 forming a unitary handle structure. A collar or lock nut 24 is threaded on the bushing 22 and is adapted to bear tightly against the plate 15 and to coact with the'spacer members 16 in firmly holding the plate IS with respect to the handle I I and the pallet or plaster board Hi.
With a combination as hereinbefore described, the workman may place the usual moist plaster on the upper side of the pallet or board In and the drum which is formed by the handle II and the plates ID, and I5 is adapted to have mounted thereon a tape roll R. When it is necessary for the workman to tape the joints between plaster board elements, the tape may be pulled through the space 29 between one blade I9. By having the tape mounted beneath the pallet or plaster board, theworkman will save a considerable amount of time.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended clams.
What I claim is:
1. In a pallet, a pallet member, a handle structure secured to the underside thereof, a plate member spaced from said pallet member by means of a plurality of spaced posts, said plate member being secured to said posts, and
a detachable support on said handle structure under said plate member whereby a receptacle is formed to removably support a roll of tape about said handle within said receptacle.
2. In a pallet, a pallet member, a handle structure secured to the underside thereof, a plate member spaced from said pallet member by means of a plurality of spaced posts, said plate member bein secured to said posts, a detachable support on said handle structure under said plate member whereby a receptacle is formed to removably support a roll of tape about said handle within said receptacle, a sleeve fixed to each of said posts in concentric relation and UNITED STATES PATENTS a cutting member secured to each sleeve and Number Name D extending parallel with and. closely adjacent to 603316 Bush 1 May 3, 9 a of sand posts- 832,036 Bunker Oct. 2, 190a 5 1,829,577 Anderson Oct; 27, 1931 OTHEL LEWIS MATTHEWS- 2,414,915 Ziegler Jan. 28, 1947 REFERENCES CITED H: 2,4 247 smmh M 1 4 The following references are of record in the FOREIGN PATENTS file of this patent: 10 Number Country Date 28,661 Switzerland 1903 Great Britain 1933
