Description
Sept 30, 1952 H. COHN 2,612,291 COMBINED DISPENSER AND RECEPTACLE FOR CLEANSING DENTURES AND OTHER ARTICLES Filed July 12, 1950 fl EH. 2%
INVENTOR Ham y Cokn/ BY 7 9 ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 30, 1952 OM ED Ln siEN ER 'ii 'C T eL FOR, CLEANSING DENr nEs AND o'rnnn I i ARTICLES Harry This invention'relates to a device for cleaning dentures and other articles; and more particular- 1y to a combined dispenser and receptacle for dispensing a controlled amount of finely divided solid cleansing material'into the receptacle into which may be placed'the' dentureor other article tobecleansed. v v, "Oneobject'of this invention is to provide 'a combined dispenser and receptacle which is simple in construction, can readily be fabricated so that it is inexpensive to make, which functions to deliver "a controlled amount; of finely divided solid cleansing material into the receptacle and' in which the receptacle is so positioned and constructed that liquid andthe dentiire or' other articlecanre'adily'be placed therein. Another object is to provide such combined dis penser and receptacle whichin usepermits ofthe ready agitation'of the contents Of the receptacleto effect efiicient cleansing of the denture.
Other objects and advantages bf this invention will be apparent'from thQ'fOllQWillg detailed description thereof;
In the preferred embodiment illustrated on the drawing the invention is shown incorporated in a combined dispenser and receptacle for use in cleaning dentures and the present description will be confined to the present illustrated embodiment of the invention. It will be understood, however, that the novel features and, improvements are susceptible to other applications, such, for example, as the cleansing or other treatment of other articles, particularly relatively small household articles. Hence, the'scopefof this invention is v.not' confined to the embodiment herein de'i- In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specificationand showing, for purposes of exemplification, a preferred form of this invention, without limiting the claimed invention to such illustrative instance:
Figure 1 is aperspective view of a combined posed supporting member I l to the top of which is secured a dispenser l 2 and to the base of which is secured a receptacle l3. Receptacle I3 is disposed directly below the dispenser l2 with a space therebetween of sufilcient extent to permit the bottom of the supporting member ll. ,Handle [4 may be omitted, if desired, "and the device held by supporting member l t,
Dispenser |2 desirably comprises a cylindrical container l which,"fas above indicated may be molded so that cylindrical sidewall I6 is integral with base ll, The base II; is provided withla plurality of small openings l8 disposed'in' a confined locality of the base, as shown in Figure 3; In the embodimentjshown in the drawing three. closely spaced openings are used. It will be understood, however, that any desired number of openings may beemployed to dispense the desired amount of materialia's'will' be more f ullyexplained herein: afterp 'A cover is m enta 2o closestlie top of,
containenli. ,Thi s.cover l9 is provided with an opening 2| of asize suchthata spindle 22passes therethrough leaving a small clearance permitting the free rotationo'f spindle 22 in the opening 2'lofcove'r l9]; I I j Suitablysecured to "the lower end of spindle 22 is a discharge plate'23; spindle 22 and plate 23 may be of one piece cast construction, if desired. In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 2 the discharge plate 23 is shaped to provide a concave area 24 in the face or top portion thereof. The base of this concave area is provided with a plurality of openings 25. Three such openings are shown inthe embodiment of the invention disclosed in the drawing, although it will be understood any desired number of such openings may be used. Desirably, the upper portion of spindle 22 is knurled, as indicated at 26, and
is of polygonal shape permitting the ready rotation of the plate 23 within container! Bby simply grasping the knurled head 26 with the fingers and turning the spindle 22.
While the construction hereinabove described and shown in the drawing involves a cylindrical receptacle l3 and a cylindrical container It, the
receptacle l3 being disposed just below the cons plate 23 carried thereby. Finely divided solid matv ter, such as the denture cleansers now available commercially, solid detergent,v etc. is then poured into container l3 on top of plate 23, this plate being positioned so that the openings 25 therein do not register with the openings [8 in the base of container [5. In this position of. the parts, no.
flow of the finely divided solid matter takes place" through the discharge plate 23, but the material rests on the plate filling the concavity 24 and the space above plate 23. After the desired amount of finely divided solid material; is placed. in container 45' the cover 20. isreplaced, Container 15 desirably is of a capacity to holdv enoughcleanser to permit. use of the device for saya weekor longerflwithout refillingthe container .15...
When itis desired to cleanse the. denture itis placed in receptacle l3 and the combined dispenser and receptacle positioned so that the receptacle [3 receives water, say from a faucet. Before or after the introduction of the water into. receptacle. l3 the disc or discharge plate 23 is given one or more revolutions by the user grasping the head 26 and turning. same. This will cause discharge of a controlled amount of solid detergent through the openings when these openings register with the openings I 8. The size and number of these openings, the number of revolutions, and speed of rotation control. the. amount of cleanser'dispensed into the receptacle l3. The parts desirably are so proportioned that one revolution of discharge plate 23. dispenses just theright amount of denture. cleanser to effect efficient cleansing of a denture. .Afte'r thev denture cleanser, denture and water, are placed in receptacle. l3 the device is movedto effect agitation of the contents of the. receptacle l3 thus thoroughly cleaning the denture therein.
It will be noted this invention provides a combined dispenser and receptaclev which is simple in construction, which can readily be fabricated and,
is therefore inexpensive to manufacture'which functions to deliver a controlled amountof a fine-. ly divided solid cleansing material tothe re-- ceptacle, which in use permits of the ready agitation of. the contents of. the receptacle. to effect efiicient cleansing of the denture disposed in the receptacle and in which the receptacle is so positioned and constructed that water or other liquid, such as tap Water, and the denture can readily be placed therein.
Since certain changes may be made in the above described combined dispenser and receptacle and different embodiments of theinvention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative' and not in a limiting sense. 1
What is claimed is:
A combined dispenser and receptacle for use in cleaning dentures and other articles, comprising, incombination, a vertically extending support, a handle on one side of said support, a dispenser for finely divided solid material secured to the upper end of said support on the other side. thereof, a'receptacle secured to the lower end. of said support on, the said other side. there: of and disposed in. substantially longitudinal alignment. withsaid dispenser in position to receive .finely divided solid material discharged-by saiddispenser, saidreceptaele. being spaced from said dispenser so that the combined dispenser and receptacle can. be. positioned with the receptacle beneath the. discharge spout of, a water faucetto receive. water therefrom, said dispenser comprisinga container having. openingsinthe base t'he ree of,-a. discharge plate rotatably mountedfin said container, said dischargev plate having thetop surface. thereof of concave shape. and. having: openings in. the lowermost portionof the ;conI-. cavity which openings upon rotationoffsaidiplate. are adapted to register with theopenings in. the baseofsaid containena. cover for said container,v saidfc over having a centrally -.disposed opening} therein, and a spindle extendingfrom. said dis.- charge. plate through. the opening. in said cover, said .spi'ndle having, an. extending. portion arranged to be engaged by the user.to. efiect rota,- tion of. said discharge plate.
