Description

Sept. 30, 1952 M. TULLY- I 2,611,951
ADJUSTABLE HAIRCUTTING INSTRUMENT Filed Jan. 9, 1948 INVENTOR MARC TULL Y ATTORNEYS" Patented Sept. 30, 1952 2,611,951 ADJUSTABLE HAIRCUTTING INSTRUMENT Marc Tully, Marseille, France Application January 9, 1948, Serial No. 1,284 In France October 2, 1946 Section 1, PublicLaw 690, August 8, 1946 Patent expires October 2, 1966 1 Claim.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved construction of hair cutting instrument and two constructions thereof are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figs. 1, 2 and 3 show respectively front views of the main elements of the invention, namely: the comb, the movable holder for the cutting blade and the blade itself.
Fig. 4 shows a front view of an assembled instrument. In the example shown in Figs. 1 to 3, a comb l coacts with a movable blade holder 2, shown in Fig. 2, having lugs 3, shown in dotted lines, which move in slots 4 that are provided for this purpose at the lateral edges of the comb I, Fig. 1. This movable blade holder, Fig. 2, has a shank with a longitudinal slot 5 and projections 8 corresponding to divisions I carried on the comb I. These divisions define the different lengths of the haircutting.
The movement of the blade holder 2 in the longitudinal direction of the teeth 9 on the comb I has the single and requisite purpose of an optional decrease or increase of the operative length of the teeth 9 visible above the cutting blade 8 shown in Fig. 3.
The movable blade holder 2 is clamped on the comb l in a secure manner by tightening up a screw. 10 secured in the comb, as shown in Fig. 4 which also shows a modified form of handle.
Speaking broadly and according to the barbers usual routine, the user should begin by cutting the hair first round the ears, then on the neck; to do that, he moves the pointer to the scale division with the number 2 /2; in this position the teeth 9 of the comb I project slightly beyond the edge of the cutting blade '8, this difierence of height between the two parts, teeth of comb I and cutting blade 2, deciding the length of the haircutting.
When this first operation is over, the blade is then brought back on to the divisions 1 or 2, thus allowing the teeth 9 of the comb to go more deeply into the hair, and to cut lengths of it proportional to the distance that the teeth 9 of comb I project above the blade 8.
A hair cutting instrument comprising a toothed comb integral with a handle portion and having a slot in each side, a bladeholder carrying a cutting blade and slidable on the comb in the longitudinal direction of the teeth, said bladeholder having a shank with a longitudinal slot, screw means carried by the comb engaged through the longitudinal slot for securing the bladeholder to the comb, a downwardly-projecting integral lug formed at each side of the bladeholder to move in the side slots of the comb, and a projec tion at each side of the shank of the bladeholder coacting with a scale provided on the comb to serve as indicating means for the relative positioning of the blade and comb.
