BRASSIERE WITH ADJUSTABLE BREAST SUPPORTING MEMBERS Filed Jan. 19, 1951 Fig. A

BY QMMI Patented Sept. 9, 1952 BRASS EREWITEADJUSTABLE BR As'r ji SUPBORTING MEMBERS Jack. J. Lo'-;Cascio,- -'Bayonne, NHL,assignor 'to v EvemPukFoundations,;Inc.,,New*York,..N. Yi a corporation of New York Application January 19, 1951', SerialNo,206;86ll ZClaimsQ (CI. 2 142) :1
This inventionrelatesto ne'vvand useful improvements and structural" refinements inbrassieres, and the principal object of the invention is to facilitate adjustment of the ;brassire so as to; provide a greater or-lesser amount to the breasts, whereby the contour of the br'east' region may be effectively controlled within ajrela-- tivel-y Wide range" of adjustment andwherebythe; wearermay maintainadesirable bust line' re gardless of the physical characteristics such as size and shape of her breasts.
In particular, the invention contemplates the provision in a brassiere of a pair of pad-shaped breast supporting members which are disposed below the breasts at the outside of the lower portions of the breast cups of the brassire, the padshaped members being well adapted to support and impart a lifting effect to the breasts, and adjustable means being provided for increasing or decreasing the amount of support and lift so afforded.
Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its extreme simplicity of construction, in its convenience and expeditious adjustability, in its unique appearance and in its adaptability for embodiment in new brassires as well as for application as an attachment to conventional brassires already in existence.
With the above more important objects and features in view and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of abrassiere constructed in accordance with the teachings of this invention;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially in the plane of the line 2--2 in Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary front elevational view showing the attachment of the breast supporting members to the adjustment means, one of the breast supporting members being shown in section.
Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the reference character It] designates a brassiere including a front region I2 provided with a pair of breast cups [4, the invention residing in the provision of a pair of pad-shaped elongated breast supporting members It which from Figure'2.
. are disposed at the outside of the lower portions of the respective breast cups M sothat-'they 'are capable of supporting and 'impartin'g a lifting; effect to the breasts, as willbe Each" of'the members it is preferably-formed from soft, somewhat resilient material, such a' I molded rubber, plastic, orthe' like, and is irregu'-; lar in shape insofar that it is thicker at thercen' ter and tapered toward its marginal edges, as Well as being substantially wider at the center than at its opposite ends. Generally speaking, the members l6 conform substantially to the size and shape of the lower portions of the respective breast cups l4, although not necessarily so.
In any event, the members [6 are secured at the outer end or side edges thereof as at [8 to the outer side edges of the respective breast cups l4, while the inner end portions of the members [6 have embedded or otherwise attached thereto substantially T-shaped keepers 20 which are disposed in downwardly divergent relation and are formed integrally with the usual slide 22 of an adjustable fastener 24. This adjustable fastener assembly is of a conventional nature, such as for example, that which is illustrated in U. S. Patent No. 2,437,765 granted to N. Statham, on March 16, 1948, the fastener assembly 24'being vertically disposed and secured by stitching 26 to the front portion I2 of the brassiere between the breast cups 14, as is best shown in Figure 1.
The slide 22 also includes the usual pull tab 28, and it will be apparent from the foregoing that by simply shifting the slide 22 upwardly or downwardly on the fastener, the inner end portions of the breast supporting members [6 may be raised or lowered, thus correspondingly varying the amount of support and lift which is imparted to the breasts by the members I6. By virtue of their configuration, the members IE not only lift the breasts but also properly support the same as aforesaid, it being obvious that the adjustment facilitated by the means 22, 24 will permit the breasts, confined within the breast cups, to be lifted as well as projected forwardly to the desired degree.
Needless to say, the invention may be embodied in new garments, or it may be applied in the nature of an attachment to brassires already in existence, in which event it would only be necessary to stitch the outer ends of the members [6 to the bras'siere, as at I8, and to similarly secure the fastener 24 to the front central portion of the brassire, as at 26.
It is believed that the advantages and use clearly apparenti' of the invention will be clearly understood from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is deemed unnecessary.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in. the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A brassire having a front region including a pair of breast cups, a pair of elongated padshaped breast supporting members disposed at 2,609,546 1 J j T 2. A breast supporting attachment for bras sieres and similar garments, said attachment comprising a pair of elongated pad-shaped breast supporting members adapted to underlie the breast cups of a brassiere and secured to the brassire at their outer ends, a fastener provided between inner ends of said members and adapted for attachment to the stated brassiere-between the breast cups, said fastener including an upwardly and downwardly adjustable slide, and a pair of inverted substantially T-shaped keepers depending in downwardly divergent relation from said slide, said keepers being embedded in the the outside of the lower portions of therespective breast cups, means securing outer ends of said members to the front region of the brassiere at the outer side edges of the respective cups, a fastener mounted on said front region;
respective breast supporting members, whereby the latter may be-raised or lowered relative to the cups.
inner end portions of the respective breast supporting members.
