Description

July 29, 1952 E. E. HANSQUINE CLOTHESLINE SUPPORT 2 Sl-lEETS-S-IEET 1 Filed July 30, 1948 INVENTOR. ERNEST E. HANSQU/IVE,
- A rroe/vs YS.
Patented July 29, 1952 invention-relates to clothe'slines, andmore wparticularlyto ar-vertically adjustable-supporting -means-forathe pulley of a'-clothesline "arrangediso that said pulley may be lowered=in crder=to secure clotheS-totheline onto-remove clothes therefrom, whereby the task ofhanging clothes is greatly facilitated. r
A; mainiobject pf:thewinventionsis' to provide a novel and improved verticallw-adlrustable support for thecpulley ,of. a-clotheslinersaid supportbeing very "simple in'constru'ctiom'easy to manipulate, and enabling theuser to readily=lower therpulley inorder to place clothes on theline or 6: remove clothes therefrompthereby eliminating he necessitymf employing a step-ladder or other means to reach the-line and-reducing the-hazards ncident to the -use of thetstep ladder orflother means,:-aswell-asmeliminating thei needlsfor tretchingtoreach thez line. .ivA' furtheraobjectiofnthe invention is todprovide an improved?vertical1y;--adjustab1e clothesline pulley support which is easy 'to' install, simple to ,pperate, and which is particularly suitableforin- =stallation-=on porches or thelike, whereby the pulley may be normally positioned adjacent the, porch ceiling but may be readily lowered to a convenient height for the placement of clothes on the line or for the removal of clothes therefrom, and wherein the line may be reached without overexertion and without requiring the use of a step-ladder or other raised support.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an adjustable clothesline pulley support device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the clothesline pulley and support therefor shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged top plan view of the clothesline pulley and support therefor illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional detail view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional detail view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of the clothesline pulley and support device of Figure 1 with the pulley in a lowered position.
Referring to the drawings, I I designates a vertical bar member formed with threads l2 and I3 at its top and bottom ends. Designated at It is a screw eye fastened in the wall ii of a building,

The.rclotheslinespullemzis sshown at-gn wand iszrotatablysupportedsin.ez frame 21 thei, axle 25=rofstheazapulleyfbeingsshowm:ati 28 qanchpassing transversely through said frame. The frame 21 is formed with a rearwardly extending yoke portion 29 merging into an arm portion 30, said arm portion terminating at its rear end in a yoke 31 through which the vertical bar member ll slidably passes. Journaled between the ends of the arms of yoke 3| and engaging the bar member I l with rolling contact thereon is a roller 32 which has an annularly grooved periphery receiving said bar member II. The intermediate portion of arm is annularly grooved. as shown at 33. and is rotatively encircled at annular groove 33 by the eye of a screw eye 34 fastened in the top end of vertical rod member 24. The clothesline, shown at 35. passes over the pulley 26.
Normally the pulley 26 is supported in an elevated position by the engagement of the lowermost headed projection '25 in the notch 23 of bracket member 19. When'it is desired to lower for the purpose of hanging clothes on the line or removing clothes therefrom, rod member 24 is grasped at its bottom end and elevated slightly to disengage said lowermost projection 2'5 from the pulley 26 .to obtain access to the line 35 .1. A. clothesline raising and comprising at least two attaching elements projecting in vertical spaced relation from-asupportingsurface, a vertically disposed bar fixedly secured tosaid attaching elements, a bracket 26 to its normal elevated position the rod member 24 is lifted and the lowermost projection 25 is engaged in the notch 23, thereby restoring the parts to their initial positions.
It is thus seen that when it is desired to place clothes on the line or to remove clothes from the line, it is merely necessary to lower rod member '24 in the manner above described, whereby access to the line may be had withoutstretching or straining, and without the necessity of employing a" step -ladder or other support for reaching the line.
and also reduces the time and labor required for the clothes hanging and removing operation.
4 vertical spaced relation from a supporting surface, a vertically disposed bar having the upper end extending through and projecting beyond one of said screw eyes and having the lower end extending through and projecting beyond the other of said screw eyes, each of the projecting end portions of said bar being externally threaded, a pair of nuts in threaded engagement with each threaded projecting end portion of said bar and receiving therebetween the adjacent screw eye,
a bracket having one end fixedly secured to said This eliminates the risk of, injury incident to standing on a step-ladder or other support while hanging or removing clothes,
While a specific embodiment of an adjustable L clothesline pulley support has been disclosed in bar, an upstanding flange provided with a notch --on the other end of said bracket, a frame arranged transversely of and spaced from said bar and having one end rollably supported for travel upwardly 'anddownwardly along said bar between said pairs of nuts, a rod arranged in spaced relation with respect to said bar and having one end the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur; to.;those. skilled in the art.v Therefore, viti is-.intended. that .nolimitations be placed on the. invention except as define by the scope of the appended claims.
What istclaimed is: e
lowering device havingone end fixedly secured tosaid bar, an upstanding flange providedwith aznotch' onthe other end of said bracket,:a frame arranged transversely of and spaced from said bar and having one end rollably supported'for travel up wardly and-downwardly ,along saidbar, a rod arranged in spaced relation with respectto said bar and-having oneend mounted on said :frame intermediate its 7 ends for swinging movement therearound, and a pluralityr-ofrheaded ;projec-- tions positioned in spaced relation alongsaid rod and eachsel'ectively engageable with a-notch on said flange to thereby hold 'saidlframet-i 1 2. A clothesline raising and lowering device comprising at least two screw eyes projecting in mounted on said frame intermediate its ends for swinging movement therearound, and a plurality of headed projections positioned in spaced "file of this patent: so 7 relation 18110118 said rod and each selectively engageable with the notch on said flange to. thereby hold said. frame. jv
