This invention relates to novel and useful improvements in means for holding articles in-the pockets of wearing apparel, and more particularly relates to a device for retaining a foldable wallet or pocket book in the rear pocket of a man's trousers. 1
The primary object of this invention is to provide a sturdy and simple device which is adapted pocket book and which functions to prevent accidental or unauthorized withdrawal of the wallet from the pockets of wearing apparel.
Another important object of this invention is to the wallet from a pocket by engaging the sides of the pocket, and which will lend itself to an inexpensive manufacture.
A meritorious feature of this invention resides in the simplicity of the device and in the manner in'which it is detachably associated with a 'wallet.
These and ancillary objects and other meritorious features to become apparent upon-a perusal of the following description are attained by this invention, preferred embodiments of which are set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a conventional foldable wallet or pocket book showing this invention in association therewith;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one embodiment of this invention;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a portion of a foldable wallet, depicting another embodiment of this invention in operative engagement in association therewith; and
Figure 4 is a plan view of the embodiment shown in Figure 3.
This invention, generally designated by the character reference I0, is designed and adapted for use with any type of foldable wallet or pocket book and functions to prevent an unauthorized withdrawal or removal of a wallet from pockets.
with respect to Figure 2 of the drawings, it is to be noted that the clip or wallet guard, constituting this invention It, comprises a substantially rectangular open frame l2 having a pair of longitudinal parallel side bars l4 and IS. The longitudinally extending opposed bars l4 and 16 are joined at their opposite ends by transverse end bars l8 and 20.
The clip I 0 is adapted to be inserted between the foldable ends 22 and 24 or a conventional Application;August-20, 1948, Serial No.d5 ,2 76
' scam. (01. -47) wallet or pocketbook 26,:adJacent the fold point 28 thereof; "In this respect, suitable'means is provided for detachably associating or attaching the clip to the wallet and comprises a tab or plate 30, which is inserted and received within'a comattached portion of the tab is preferably formed with a curved or arcuate edge 34, the edge terminating in a plane below the common plane of the rectangular frame and the attached and of the tab. 1: i V I r The. slight bend away from the plane. oflthe frame given to theend of the tab allows the same to be easily and conveniently inserted within the compartment 32 of the wallet, as seen in Figure 1. I i a It can be appreciated that only one part is provided and that there are no movable parts. This enhances the structural, economical and utilitar- In use, the clip is attached to a wallet by inserting the tab within the compartment or pocket 32 so that the end bars l8 and 20 project evenly beyond the opposing longitudinal marginal edges of the section 22 01' the wallet. The secrial of the pocket so as to prevent an unauthorized withdrawal of the wallet. An authorized withdrawal can be easily and conveniently effected by merely moving the wallet in the pocket so as to disengage the end bars from the walls 01 the pocket.
Another embodiment of this invention is illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, the same serving the same function as the device in Figures 1 and 2 and retaining the same principle. However, the clip shown in Figures 3 and 4 is structurally different, though employing a similar structure for effecting the primary aim and purpose of this invention.
In this respect, the modifiedform of clip includes the same i open rectangular. frame or framework l2' bututiliz'es a difierent type of se-" curing means in association with the wallet. The
tab so in the clip 40 illustrated in Figures 3 and 4- is flexible and is employed in a different function,
with the means for attaching the clip to the wallet comprising a flexible tab 42 which has one end 44 secured about the side wall M by mean's'oe permanent stitching Q6. The tabliZ is thus slid: ably mounted for longitudinal movement on the side bar l4, so that the end bars 18 and acme-y be transversely adjusted with respect to the longitudin'al marginal edges" 'of the wallet section. The: tabilzis'preferably formed of a widthsubstant'ially equal to the width of conventional wallets.but,-ofcourse, the dimensions of-the'ntab would varyin conformity withthe size of. the wallet; -w r The tab 30 is bent at itsfree enddownwardly of the frame so thatit presses the sidebar 14 away from the wallet when theclip is attached to the wallet. When a person desiresto withdraw the clip, alpressure is appliedto the sidebar 1%,,forcing the. same against the wallet. v
Whileinthe foregoing, preferred embodiments of. this invention have been shown and described, the main features of this invention are the-open rectangular frame which can be'formed of wirev or alike flexible :material and the means. provided for detachably associating the frame with a wallet so that the .end bars of the framewill engage and grip inthe material of a'ipo'cket'and will prevent an unauthorizedwithdrawal of the clipfrom-thepocket. I l Therefore, certain changes could be carried-out such asvfcrming the open frame in the formof a uarenrvmultksided frame and employing integral-cor detachablewallet engagir'ig:means.
ment and of a width less than the length of said compartment, and a flat tongue element integrally formed with one side edge of the frame member intermediate the ends of the frame member and extending toward the other side edge of the frame member, said tongue element having a free end provided with a convex edge received in the compartment through the opening thereof, said frame member overlying the compartment and extending transversely-across and beyond said compartment;
YZrAsa new article of manufacture, a wallet. clip comprising a substantially rectangular open frame having a: pair of longitudinal parallel side bars and a pair of parallel end bars joining'the side;bars;,1and a plate integrally formed with one of said side bars intermediate the ends thereof and extending toward the other of said side bans, said plate having'a free end provided with a 0011? vex edge'faci-ngsaid other side bar.;
