f Y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. DURHAM, OF GREENSBOROUGH, GEORGIA.
OIL-CAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 260,008, dated June 27, 1882,
Application filed May 9, 1882. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. DURHAM, ot' Greensborough, in the county of Greene and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful ImprovementsinOil-Oans; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient oil-can, which can be used with superior convenience in filling lamps, 850., without lifting the can.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device; Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertioal sectional view; Fig. 3, a transverse sectional view; Fig. 4., a rear view, and Fig 5 an end view, of the device inoperation.
Referring by letter to the drawings,Adesignates a supporting-frame, consisting of A- shaped end standards, B B, connected near their lower ends by longitudinal cross-strips G 0, one of which is curved at its center, as shown at D.
E designates the cylindrical oil-can, having gudgeons F F at its ends, which turn in bearings G G in the top of standards B B. Gan E is provided in its top with the usual opening, H, for filling, closed by a cork or cup, I, abai], J, for convenience in transportation, and below the opening H with outlet-spout or tube K, having an enlarged inner mouth or opening, K, so that the entire contents of the canmay run out when the latter is in the position shown in Fig. 5, the enlarged portion resting in the curve D, as shown.
To the under rear side of the can is secured a flat spring, L, which engages the cross-strip G and serves to hold the can in an upright position when not in use.
The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood. To pour out the oil it is only necessary to grasp the bail and turn the can till the spoutis in the necessary inclined position, the spring Lbeingdrawn from contact with the cross'strip. hen the oil in the can is very low the spout will be supported in the curve D of the cross-piece U.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent r 1. The combination, with the cylindrical oilcan turning in bearings in the end standards of the frame, having connecting cross-strips, of the flat spring adapted to engage one of the cross-strips and retain the can in an upright position, as set forth.
2. The combination, with the frame A, having end standards, B B, connected by longitudinal cross-strips O O, of the cylindrical oilcan E, having bearings Gr Gin said standards, and provided with bail J and outlet spout or tube K, and on its under rear side with a flat spring, L, adapted to engage one of the crossstrips, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM GRISHAM DURHAM.
