(Cl. Z2368) 13 Claims. 1
This: invention relates to a display form for blouses and other similar articles of womens wearing apparel.
The principal object of this invention is the provision of a display form of the character described which is adjustable in many important respects. In the first place. it may be tilted on a horizontal aXis tosupport a blouse or any other garment of like nature in any desired position relative to the vertical. For example, the display form may be held in perfectly vertical position. If desired, however, it may be tilted either forwardly or backwardly about said horizontal axis. In the second place, this, display form is provided with a main frame which may be described as the main body of the display form and with a secondary frame which constitutes the bust portion of the display form. The main frame supports the main body of the garment and the secondary frame supports the bust portion of the garment. The two frames are movable relative to each other so as to adjust themselves to larger and smaller garments and also for the purpose of providing different effects in, the same garment.
This display form is also adjustable so that it may be supported on a horizontal supporting surface or hung on a vertical supporting surface. In either case the display form may be tilted to any desired position relative to the vertical and the two. frames which comprise it may also be moved relative to each other. The display form is adapted to stand on a display counter or table and it is equally adapted to be hung from.
a nail on a wall.
Another important feature of this invention is a ring which is mounted at the base of the main frame and which is adapted to encircle and hold the waist of the blouse or other garment mounted on, said display form. This ring is tiltable on two horizontal pivots and it is adjustable to many positions relative to said main frame and also relative to the secondary frame. It may be raised or lowered or moved forwardly or backwardly or tilted in clockwise or counterclockwise direction. Hence it may be placed at any desired position relative to the waist of the blouse or other. garment and it may be made .to draw it in or let it out, as desired.
Another important feature of this invention is ing in broken lines some of the positions to which.
it may be adjusted.
Pig. 3 is a similar view, partly in section, showing the display form hanging from a nail on a.
vertical support.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of Fig. 1 showing how the display form therein claimed supports,
a blouse.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation, partially in section,
showing another embodiment of the display form.
Fig. 6 is a front el'evational view of the lower portion of the display form of Fig. 5, with portions thereof broken away.
Fig. 7 is a front partial perspective view of still another embodiment of the display form with a portion of the bust section broken away.
The display form 10 shown in Figs. 1-4 generally comprises a frame It pivotally mounted on a base it, an arm it which is pivotally mounted on the frame M, a. bust form l8- which is mounted on the arm it, an arm 2! which is pivotally mounted on the :base l2;,v and a waist-gathering ring 22 which is pivotally secured to said arm 20.
Base it may be a plastic strip which is bent to appropriate form so as to provide a firm base support for the display form. It has an upprojecting arm [2a to which the main framei i and supporting arm 20 are pivotally secured. It will be noted that a pin or rivet 2d pivotally secures the lower end of the arm 20- to the lower portion of arm lZa. At its bottom, the main frame M has spaced arms Md. A pin or rivet 2t pivotally secures the lower ends of arms Md of main frame M to the upper end of said, arm i2a. Thus it is possible both for the arm or bracket 259i and for the main frame it to turn relative. to each other. and also relative to the base ii, on the two horizontal axes of said pivot pins or pivot, rivets 2t and 24.
, Fig. 1 of the drawing. It includes a neck portion Ma, a pair of shoulderportions. i ib. a pair of side body portions Me and a pair of parallel. lower arms Md.
Support arm It also. made from a strip of plastic material, bent as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Its lower end extends into the space between the upper portions of parallel arms Md and a pin or rivet 30 pivotally secures said support arm to said arms Md.
Bust form [8 is molded from a sheet of plastic material and it is shaped to simulate the human female bust. It may be fixedly secured to the upper end of support arm it by means of a suitable cement or a suitable plastic solvent or any other conventional means, or may be pivotally connected thereto as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 and as will be presently described in detail.
Fig. 4 shows how a blouse 40 may be hung upon the display form. The shoulders 32 of the blouse rest upon shoulders Nb of the main frame and it will be seen that neck portion Ma thereof projects through the neck opening 44 of the blouse. The waist 46 of the blouse projects into and abuts the inner face of ring 22 and a suitable gathered effect is thereby produced.
It will be noted in Fig. 1 that a small block 43 is fastened to base I2 and that a hole 50 is provided in said block. Said hole 59 is adapted to receive a nail 52 or other similar fastening member in order to secure the base 12 to a vertical support such as a wall 54. In such case, the base 12 is held vertically and flat against the wall 54. In Fig. 2 the base is shown disposed horizontally upon a horizontal support such as display counter or table 56.
All the parts of the device can be readily made at low cost by bending pieces of scrap acrylic resins, such as methyl methacrylate resins, of the type commonly designated as Lucite, Plexiglass, etc.
Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate a display form 60 having an alternate construction, and including an identical base 62 having an upwardly projecting arm 62a, an identical waist-gathering ring 64 having parallel end extensions 64a, and a ring-supporting arm 66 pivotally connected by a pivot 63 to the end extensions 64a of ring 64. The end extensions fi la are both connected on one side of the arm 56, as shown in Fig. 6, in order to center the ring 54 on the display form. The form 66 also has an identical bust section l0 which is connected to a lateral extension piece 12, the latter being pivotally connected to a support arm M by a pivot 76. Form 60 also includes a frame '18 similar to the frame 14, and having a pair of arms 18d.
The support arm 14, ring supporting arm 68, and the frame arms TM are all pivotally connected at their lower ends to the base arm 82a by a pivot bolt 89 and wing nut 82. As shown in Fig. 6, these parts may be separated by spacers 84 such as washers, lock washers, or the like. It will be noted that in the embodiment both the frame arms 18d and support arm 14 extend through the ring 64.
This display form 60 is adjustable in the same manner as form [0 previously described, but is more economical in construction because of the provision of the single pivot 80 which replaces the three pivots 2B, 28 and 3D. In addition, the pivot [6 enables the bust section 10 to be adjusted to a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal plane of the frame 18, even when frame I8 is tilted rearwardly or bust section support arm 14 is tilted forwardly. This pivoting connection of the bust section may, of course, also be applied to the display form 10 of Figs. 1-4.
Fig. 7 illustrates still another embodiment of the invention in which the display form is similarly constructed and arranged except for the bust section. A bar 86 is rigidly mounted across the frame 88, between the side body portions 880 thereof. This bar 86 has a central opening 90 which may be circular as shown, or of any other suitable shape. The bust section 92 has a laterally-projecting rod 94 fixedly secured thereto, the rod 94 being shaped to fit slidably within the opening 90 of bar 86. The rod 94 may be releasably locked in adjusted position by a set screw 96. The bust section 92 may thus be brought to a selected adjusted position forwardly of frame 88 and locked therein by set screw 96, which may have a wing end for convenient turnmg.
The frame 88 may also have a plurality of minute through-and-through holes 98 located between the side body portion 880 and shoulder portions 88!). These holes 98 are sized to accommodate pins and provide means whereby a low-cut, ofi-the-shoulder blouse may be pinned to the. frame 88. It is to be understood that similarly-arranged holes may also be provided in form 60 and in form 10.
The foregoing is illustrative of a preferred form of this invention, but numerous changes and omissions and additions may be made without departing from the scope of the invention. In the claims where it is specified that any part is connected to or supported by the base 12, this is intended to include both a direct connection or support, and an indirect connection or support, so that the pivot or other connecting member may be connected directly to base I2 or to a member which is connected to or supported by base l2.
