Description

March 2, 1954 .lo'r
ATTORNEYS Patented Mar. 2, 1`954 ,if .UN 1 f 'Y 2,670,472. y
BmfsoRoWfsHIR'r fEstheiz'Nrlllen Ridgeield, Genn., rsppiaatioaaugss 5, 195.gsera1gnogauast5 I This invention relates to under garments for infants, and in particular a neck yoke in combination with a tubular body in which the neck yoke and body are formed of ribbed material with the ribbing horizontally positioned inthe yoke and vertically positioned in the body and with the low portion of the body provided with rows of spaced eyelets at the sides to provide for growth of the child and also to provide means for pinning a diaper to the garment.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a band that permits growth of a baby and that also permits freedom of movement of the arms.
Various attempts, such as overlapping front panels of a baby shirt, have been made to compensate for the growth of a baby, however, as pins, knots and other fastening elements are objectionable, it is desirable to provide a comparatively smooth one piece band in which means is provided for permitting growth of the baby. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a body band having vertically disposed ribbing therein with a neck yoke connected to the upper edge of the body band with a at seam and with the ribbing of the neck yoke horizontally positioned, and in which means is provided for expanding the lower edge of the band to compensate for growth of the child.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for forming an under garment for a baby which provides freedom of movement of the arms and also allows for normal growth of the child.
Another object of the invention is to provide an under garment for a baby which also serves as a supporter for a diaper.
A further object of the invention is to provide an under garment for a baby having a body band supported with a neck yoke and having means whereby the lower edge of the body band may be extended, and in which the device is of a comparatively simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a body band having vertically positioned ribbing therein with rows of spaced eyelets in reinforced sections in the lower portion and positioned at the sides of the band, and a yoke having horizontally disposed ribbing therein secured to the upper edge of the band and having extensions over the shoulders providing suggestion of cap sleeves.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view illustrating 2 the extensible baby band and showing the parts thereof assembled.
Figure 2 is a side elevational View of the band shown in Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a detail showing a section through the lower part of the band with eyelet reinforcing or mounting strips secured to the band.
Referring now to the drawing whereinlike reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved growing band for a baby includes a tubular body section I0, a yoke I I, with spaced rows of eyelets I2 and I3 at one side of the body and with similar rows at the opposite side as indicated by the numeral I4, and strips of tape I5 on the outer surface of the garment in which the eyelets are positioned and corresponding strips I6 on the inner surface.
The tubular body I0 of the garment, which is formed of ribbed material, with the ribbing extended vertically is connected to the lower edge of the yoke portion II with at stitching as indicated by the numeral I'I, and the yoke I I, which is provided with horizontally disposed ribbing, and which is formed with a V-shaped opening I8 at the front and a substantially semi-circular opening I9 at the back is provided with extended sections 20 and 2| on the outer edges of the shoulder straps providing a form of cap sleeve, covering the shoulders.
The edge of the material around the neck opening and arm recesses 22 and 23 is provided with a binding of the same material as that of the yoke whereby irritations from loose ends of thread and the like are substantially obviated.
The tapes I5 and I6 are secured to the material of the body band I Il with stitching 24 and 25 at the edges and also with a row of vertically disposed stitching 26 at the center and horizontally disposed stitches 21 between the eyelets.
With the parts formed in this manner an under garment is provided which, at the start, may be used for an infant with a diaper pinned to the upper pairs of eyelets, and as the baby grows the lower eyelets are used.
With the pins for a diaper extended through the eyelets the possibility of the pins tearing the material of the garment is substantially eliminated.
The eyelets with the reinforcing tapes also prevent rolling of the lower edge of the garment.
With the parts of the garment formed as disclosed and described the complete inner surface of the garment is comparatively smooth.
The garment may be made with the neck V-shaped as shown in the front or V-shaped as shown at the back, or of other suitable shapes. The sleeves may be long or short as may be desired.
It will be understood that modiications, within the scope of the appended claim, may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
A garment for a baby comprising a tubular body band 'formed of ribbed material in which the ribbing extends vertically and/a neck yoke, said neck yoke having a neck opening therein, said neck yoke further having arm openings in its sides, said neck yoke being formed of ribbed material and the ribbing of said neck yoke being extended horizontally, the lower edge of said neck yoke being secured to the upper edge of said body band with fiat stitching, vertically disposed horizontally spaced rows of eyelets in the lower 4 portion of the body band and positioned at the sides of the garment for selective engagement of said eyelets with a fastening means, and strips of tape positioned on the inner and outer surfaces of the garment in which the eyelets are positioned and vertically and horizontally disposed rows of stitches extending between the eyelets thereby securing said strips to the garment.
