Application April 13, 1951, Serial No. 220,896
3 Claims. 1
This invention is in the nature of an accessory for a shower bath fixture or spray head.
An object of the invention is to provide a novel shower bath utility in the form of an attachment for a shower bath spray head for the purpose of dispensing a scented substance, a water softener, a medicated substance, or other material in the Water sprayed from the shower head. In this connection it is a particular object to provide a device which holds a cake or quantity of solid material to be dispensed in the path of water issuing from a shower head but which is adjustable so that the material may be moved out of the stream of water when desired.
Another object is to provide a simple device of the type indicated which can be readily detachably mounted on a conventional shower bath fixture.
Still another object is to provide such a device which is suitable for use with various types of spray heads.
A further object is to provide a device of the type indicated which can be readily manufactured at low cost.
These and other objects will be apparent from the drawing and the following description.
Referring to the drawing:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a shower bath fixture or spray head showing a device embodying the invention mounted thereon;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary elevational view in the plane of line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view on line 44 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view on an enlarged scale on line 5--5 of Fig. 4.
More articularly describing the invention, reference numeral ll indicates a water supply pipe on which is mounted a shower bath fixture l2 which includes a spray head l3 having outlet openings [4 through which water issues. The head I3 may be mounted on pipe I l by a conventional swivel-type joint, the nut of which is indicated at l5.
My invention comprises an attachment, accessory, or utility for the shower fixture which is adapted to be detachably mounted thereon. The device or accessory includes a bracket [9 shown as comprising a pair of arms 20 which carry a container-dispenser member 2! for positioning in front of the spray head and a securing means 22 for attaching the device to the pipe I l or some part of the shower fixture.
The arms 20 of the bracket are pivotally mounted upon the securing means which is shown as being in the form of a spring clamping ring 23 adapted to be detachably mounted upon the pipe I I. The arms are secured to opposite sides of the ring 23 respectively by means of rivets 24. Stop pins 25 are provided on the clamping ring for each arm for holding the arms in alignment with the pipe I I when, as in the usual installation, the fixture is inclined to the vertical.
The arms 20 are shaped to extend around the shower head l3 and at their outer ends are riveted to the container-dispenser member 2|. This latter comprises an annular channel-like member having a bottom wall 21, an inner wall 28, and an outer wall 29. Preferably the outer wall 29 is higher than the inner wall to prevent lateral splashing. The bottom wall is provided with openings 30 and the inner wall may also have openings 30 therein. A centrally disposed, relatively fiat, conical deflector 3| is supported on a spider formed of arms 32.
In the use of the accessory, the containerdispenser member is provided with a cake of substance to be dispensed. I prefer the cake to be doughnut-shaped. The bracket is swung on the clamping ring to position the containerdispenser in front of the shower head 43 where some of the water issuing from the holes Hi thereof will strike the cake of material and carry away part of the material to be dispensed. Some of the water from the shower head will pass through the spaces between the wall 28 and the deflector 3|. It will be apparent that when it is desired not to use the accessory it i may be swung upwardly and back upon the pipe H as indicated by the broken lines in Fig. 2 where it is out of the way.
The deflector 3| serves to accommodate the device for use on fixtures having relatively small cross-sectional areas as compared with the head 43 illustrated, since it insures deflection of some of the water into the container-dispenser.
Although I have shown and described a preferred form of the invention I contemplate that various changes and modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention which is indicated by the claims. For example, the bracket might consist of a single arm.
I claim:
1. An accessory for a shower bath fixture having a head with outlet openings from which water issues and a supply pipe to the head, comprising a container-dispenser member having an outer open-topped trough-like annular section for holding a supply of material to be dispensed and dethe annular section of said container-dispenser is provided with an apertured lower wall.
ABRAHAM Z. MOSS.
