This invention relates to new and useful im-- provements and structural refinements in cigarette cases, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herein described, such as may be conveniently and eifectively employed as a dispensing cigarette container.

A further object of the invention is to provide a cigarette case into which the cigarettes may be readily inserted in package form, and from which they may be individually removed.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cigarette case in which the contents may be preserved in a fresh and unmutilated condition.

An additional object of the invention is to provide a cigarette case which is simple in construction and operation, and which will not easily become damaged.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a cigarette case which is pleasing in appearance and which will readily lend itself to economical manufacture.

With the above more important objects in view and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the construction and arrangement of parts as shown in the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 4-4 in Figure 3,

Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view of one of the receptacle sections used in the invention,

Figure 7 is a perspective view of a pusher plate used in the invention, and

Figure 8 is a perspective view of a latch used in the same.

Like characters of reference are used to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a cigarette case designated generally by the reference character Hi, the same embodying in its construction a pair of complemental sections l I, !2, separably connected together in a telescoped relationship and forming a receptacle [3.

i5 forming a substantially rectangular frame as is best shown in Figure '7, and having its end portions coiled to provide a pair of bearings IS. A hinge pin I 7 passes through these bearings and is secured in the sides of the receptacle section ll, whereby the pusher plate [4 is hingedly mounted in the section, as aforesaid. It will be noted that the extremities l8 of the rod l5 are out-turned somewhat, so as to engage the adjacent wall of the section II. In this manner, the pusher plate [4 will be urged in the direction of the arrow 89.

It will be also noted that the rectangular frame defined by the rod I5 is partially filled by a sheet of material 20, which, if desired, may extend over the entire area of the frame.

A corner portion 21 of the section I! is separated from the main body of the section and is hingedly connected thereto as at 22. The separation of the corner portion 21 forms a dispensing opening in the section I l, for which the portion 2|, in effect, constitutes a cover designated by the same reference character. A suitable spring 23 is provided in the section I! for normally urging the cover 2| into its open position as indicated by the phantom lines 24. Means are also provided for normally retaining the cover in its closed position, the same being designated by the general reference character 25.

The means 25 consists of a latch 26, assuming a substantially L-shaped configuration and having the relatively long arm thereof slidably positioned in a bearing 21, while its relatively short arm projects outwardly from the section II through a suitable slot 28. The projecting end portion of the latch 26 carries a manipulating knob 29 and it will be noted that the aforementioned bearing 21 is provided on the inner surface of the section II, adjacent the cover 2!.

The free extremity of the long arm of the latch 26 is removably engageable with a further bearing 39 secured to the inner surface of the cover 2|.

When the invention is placed in use, a package of cigarettes 32 is inserted into the receptacle I3 by simply separating the sections ll, l2. The upper portion of the package should then be removed and the pusher plate 14 insert-ed into the package, as is best shown in Figure 4. It will be observed that the pusher plate will urge the cigarettes 33 in the direction of the cover 2!.

The cigarettes may be individually dispensed from the case by simply disengaging the latch 26 from the bearing 30, so as to allow the cover Zl to assume its open position (24) under the it; resiliency of the spring 23. The cigarettes may, of course, be then removed individually through the uncovered dispensing opening.

It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention Will be clearly understood from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is considered unnecessary.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A cigarette case comprising upper and lower telescoped sections, said upper section having first and second corners, said first corner having a dispensing opening therein, a pivot pin carried by the upper section and disposed atv the second corner, a substantially U-shapedresilient, wire frame member having spaced leg portions, a sheet of material extending between and partially filling the space between the leg portions ofsaid wire frame member, coils on the leg portions of said wire frame member receiving said pivot pin, and arms projecting from the coils and yieldingly bearing against the inner surface of the upper section to urge the wire frame member toward the dispensing opening.

2. The combination of claim 1 and a closure for the dispensing opening, means pivotally securing the closure to the upper section, and a latch for holding the closure in its closed position.
