This invention relates to new and. useful improvements in devices for washing clotheslines and the like and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a pair of side wallsextendable into a; washing fluid and embodying a novel, and improved arrangement of washing rollers about which av clothesline is trained to be pulled between the side walls and-through a washing fluid in which the rollers are submerged.

Another important object: of the present. invention is to provide a clothesline washer including a. plurality of upper'washing rollers and lower washing rollers about which is trained a flexible line, and novel and improved means for rinsing the. line after the same has been pulled through the upper and lower; rollers.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a device for washing and rinsing clothes lines and the like including a pair ofside walls supporting therebetween a group of rollers, and a continuous: opening. provided in. one. of the side walls whereby clothesline may be entrained about the rollers in a convenient manner.

A still further of the present invention is to provide a clothesline washer that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, small and, compact in structure, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpemv sive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals: refer to. like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 2 is a side elevational view showing the present invention in use and applied to a receptacle containing a washing fluid, and with parts her or wall [2 one longitudinal edge of which is of the receptacle broken away and shown in integrally formed with a longitudinal, extension M that forms the lower portion of, a, further side wall which opposes the side wall 12. The. extension 14 is provided with a pair of; longitudinally spaced, outwardly projecting arms or cars 16 and I8 having rounded outer edges 20 and 22, rounded and, connected inner side edges 24 and 26, and further rounded or arcuate inner side edges 2& and 30.

Integrally formed with. a portion of the remainin longitudinal edge of the side member I2, is an extension 32 that forms the upper portion of the side wall opposing the side wall [2.

5 The. extension 32 is provided with longitudinally spaced, outwardly projecting arms or cars 34 and 36 that are provided with rounded outer edges 38 and 40, and connected inner arcuatev side edges 42v and M. The car 34 is further provided with, an arcuate inner side edge 46. The numeral 48. represents a further extension that is in.- tegrally formed with the side wall l2, adjacent the extension 32. This latest extension 48 includes a first upper side portion 50 and an elongated second, upper side portion 52 that are con nected by an integral strip 54. A central slot or opening 56 is provided, in the strip 54 and communicates with one end of an undulated opening 58 that extends throughout the length. of the extension 48. One side 6B of the extension 48 terminates in a rounded portion or ear 62 for a. purpose which will later be more fully apparent.

It should be noted, that spaced parallel fold lines 64 and 66 are provided in the extension 32 between which there is formed an upper wall or strip 68 that is notched at one end as at 16 to provide an entrance opening. Also, there is provided a pair of spaced parallel fold lines 12 and M on the extension 14 forming a lower Wall or strip I6 therebetween.

In forming the roller housing, the extension I 4 is folded upwardly and the extension 32 is folded downwardly so that the ears I6 and. 1.8 are-loosely positionedon opposite sides of the ear 34 and there exists an undulated opening I8 between the extensions I4 and 32. The upper side of extension 48 is folded downwardly and secured in spaced relationship to the extension I4 with the rounded portion 62 spaced relative to the arcuate edge 28 and the undulated openlugs 58 and I8 communicating with each other.

Extending transversely between longitudinally spaced opening 80, 32 and 8 4 provided in the side wall I2 and openings 86, 88 and 90 provided in the ears 62', 34 and 36 respectively, is a plurality of lower axles 92 that rotatably support lower washing wheels or rollers 94 having annular grooves 96.

Extending transversely between longitudinally spaced opening 98, MB and I02 in the side wall I2, and openings I 04, I 06 and I08 provided in the extension 48, and ears I6 and I8 respectively, is

a plurality of upper axles I II] that support upper washing rollers or wheels II2 which are also formed with annular rope engaging grooves H4. The upper rollers II2 are staggered relative to the lower rollers 94 for a purpose which will later be more fully apparent.

Fixed between openings H and H8 provided in the upper side portion 50 and opposing openings I28 and I22 provided in the upper side portion 52, is a pair of further axle I24 and I25 that rotatably support a pair of rinsing rollers 28 and 136. It'is preferred, that the extensions I l, 32 and 48 be fixed to and'spaced from the side wall 12 by a plurality of rivets and the like i3! which are so located as not to interfere with the engaging of a rope 432 about the rollers.

In practical use of the present invention, the

depending ends I34 of a pair of hook elements I35 are fixed to the side wall I2. These hook elements I35 are integrally formed with support legs 13%? that will retain the present clothesline washing apparatus within a suitable receptacle i l-e containing a suitable cleaning fluid. It is preferred, that the side wall I2 and extensions M, 32 and so be provided with suitable water vents It?! that will permit cleaning fluid to enter the roller housing to engage a clothes rod or the like which is entrained above the rollers.

I One end of the rope or clothesline I32 is extended through the undulated opening I8 and '58 and the said rope orclothesline is trained over the upper rollers I2, under the lower rollers 24, and between the rinsing rollers I28 and mil. As the free end M4 of the rope I32 is pulled through the opening 56, the rope will be washed by the rollers 94 and I I2, and the rinsing rollers 25 and itfl are so disposed as to frictionally engage the rope and force the cleaning fluid therefrom.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

Havin described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

l. A clothesline cleaner comprising a roller support, saidroller support being constructed from a single blank of material and including a first side wall, a pair of extensions adapted to form a second side wall, strips securing said extensions to said first side wall, said strips forming an upper wall and lower wall respectively, a pair of ears carried by each of said extensions, the ears of one extension being staggered with respect to the ears of the other extension, a plurality of shafts carried by said ears and said first side wall and a further extension integrally formed with said first side wall, and having first and second portions and a strip joining said portions, said second portion being secured to said first side wall and coplanar with said pair of extensions, said second portion including an ear disposed adjacent one ear of one of said pair of extensions, further shafts carried by said first and second portions, and rollers mounted on said plurality of shafts and said further shafts.

A clothesline cleane comprising a roller support, said roller support being constructed from a single blank of material and including a substantially rectangular side member, first and second extensions, strips securing said extensions to the longitudinal side edges of said side member, first and second ears carried by each of said extensions, and a further extension projecting laterally from one longitudinal side edge of said side member, said further extension including first and second portions, an ear carried by the second portion of said further extension, means securing said first portion to said second portion,

further means securing the first and second ears of first and second extensions to said side member, the'ear carried by said second portion being disposed adjacent the first ear of said first extension, the ears of said first extension being staggered with respect to the ears of said second extension, and rollers mounted on said securing means and said further securing means.

3. A clothesline cleaner comprising a roller support, said roller support being constructed from a single blank of material and including a substantially rectangular side member, first and second extensions, strips securing said extensions to the longitudinal sideedges of said side mem-- ber, first and second ears carried by each of said extensions and a further extension projecting laterally fro a one longitudinal side edge of said side member, said further extension including first and second portions, an ear carried by the second portion of said further extension, means securing said first portion to said second portion, further means securin the first and second ears of first and second extensions to said side member, the ear carried by said second portion being dispo ed adjacent the first ear of said first extension, the ears of said first extension being staggered with respect to the ears of said second extension, and rollers mounted on said securing means and said further securing means, the ears of said first extension being spaced from the ears of said second extension to provide an undulated rope receiving slot, said second portion of said further extension having a rope receiving slot communicating with the first-mentioned rope receiving slot.
