Description
J S DU BOIS ADJUSTABLE VENTILATING DOOR.
Patented Feb. 14,1882.
- (No Model.)
to each other.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH S. DU BOIS, OF HADDONFIELD, NEW JERSEY.
ADJUSTABLE VENT| LATlNG-DOO'R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,520, dated February 14, 1882.
I Application filed May 26,1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSIAH S. DU BoIs, of Haddonfield, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Adjustable Ventilating-Doors, &c., of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to adjustable doors and window-screens; and itconsistsin an adjustable frame adjustable both laterally and vertically, said frame, when adapted as a door, being provided with hinges and covered with a screening of any suitable material, all of which is more fully set forth in the following specification, shown in the accompanying drawings, and referred to in the appended claims.
The object of this invention is to so construct a summer or screen door that it may be adjusted to fit any doorway, and thereby prevent the necessity of making a new summer-door to each house a family may from time to time moveinto.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved door. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of. same on line a; w.
A is the door as a whole, and consists of the side tubes,B B, forming the side of the frame, and tubes 0 and E, forming respectively the top and bottom of the frame, and means for securing and adjusting said parts with relation The side tube B is secured to the bottom tube, E, and the side tube B is provided on the bottom with a lateral extension or tube, b, which slides into the bottom tube, E, and is secured in any desired position by set-screw b. The upper or top tube, 0, of the frame is provided with a downwardly-extending leg, 0, which slides in'the top of side tube B, and is secured in any desired position by set-screw c. A corner or L piece, I), provided with two legs, 01 d, fills in the remaining open corner, the leg cl sliding in the tube B, and being secured in place by means of set-screw d and the leg 01 sliding in the top tube, 0, and secured in position by a set-screw, d. The
side tube B is provided with hinges G, wherewith to secure the door-frame to the door-post, and the bottom of the tube B is connected to the top of the tube B by asuit-able adjustable brace, and vice versa, if desired; or a double cross-brace may be used, as shown in Fig. l, in which one-halt is indicated in dotted lines. These braces may consist of a tube, F, hinged atf, into which slides a rod, F, hinged atf. The tube and rod are hinged to opposite side tubes, and the length is adjustable, and may be made fixed by a set-screw,f
Over the frame A the gauze-cloth H is secured by sewing around the frame, or in any other desirable manner.
The frame may be made of iron or wood or other metal, as desired, and the adjustable means and braces may be of any suitable construction.
By the construction shown the frame may be adjusted both horizontally and vertically, s0
as to fit any sized door desired.
v Having nowdescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An adjustablesummerorsereen doorframe adapted to both vertical and horizontal ad j ustment, in combination with the screen and means to brace said frame, as and for the purpose specified.
2. In an adjustable summer or screen door frame, the combination of side tubes, B B, bottom tube, E, rod b, top tube, 0, provided with leg 0, corner-piece D, provided with legs d d, brace-tube F, rod F, and means to secure said parts together, as and for the purpose specifled.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
JOSIAH S. DU BOIS.
