Description

Nov. 7, 1950 s. J. GRAHAM 2,528,878
POCKET HANDKERCHIEF HOLDING FRAME Filed April 16, 1947 INVENTOR. Jffiflf/J 5/87/69? BY/W.:
latent'ed Nov. 7, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,528,878 POCKET HANDKERCH IEF HOLDING FRAME- Searcy J. Graham, Denver, Colo.
Application April 16, 1947, Serial No. 741,717
This invention relates to a device for holdin a pocket handkerchief in a prearranged projecting position in a pocket.
It is customary among better dressed men to wear a handkerchief projecting from the breast pocket of the coat. This is usually done by drawing the four corners of the handkerchief upwardly from the pocket so that they project to create an ornament on the coat. It is a fairly difficult task to arrange and hold these corners in the proper ornamental spaced apart position.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a device which will support the four corners of the handkerchief for display purposes and which will spread the handkerchief flat over the entire pocket area to prevent unsightly bulging of the pocket.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and efiiciency. These will become more apparent from the following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 illustrates how a handkerchief would ap-' pear on the user when mounted in this improved pocket handkerchief holder;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one form of the holder, illustrating in broken line the position of the handkerchief thereon;
Fig. 3 is a similar view illustrating an alternate form of the improved holder; and
Fig. 4 is a similar view illustrating a second alternate form of the improved holder.
The first form of holder, as shown in Fig. 2, comprises a U-shaped frame having vertical side edge portions l and II and a connecting bottom portion l2. A horizontal, elongated, open frame l3 extends between the upper extremities of the side edge members l0 and II. The open frame I3 is divided into four handkerchief receiving sections by means of three cross bars I4. The cross bars 14 are preferably inclined in parallel relation as shown in Fig. 2. The members II], ll, [2, I3 and I4 may be formed from a single piece of material or they may be formed from wires of any suitable metal welded, soldered or otherwise secured together.
The handkerchief is placed in the device by drawing the four corners thereof upwardly be- 1 Claim. (Cl. 243) tween the cross bars I4 so as to form four projecting points, as indicated at l5. The midportion of the handkerchief is then folded upwardly around the connecting bottom portion l2, as indicated in broken line in Fig. 2, and the handkerchief and its frame are forced into the pocket. The bottom portion I2 serves to spread the handkerchief and push it completely to the bottom of the pocket so that it will lie flat therein without unsightly bulges.
The length of the side portions IQ and II is such asto cause the holder to be entirely concealed in the pocket with only the points of the handkerchief projecting thereabove. The incline of the cross bars [6 acts to overlap the handkerchief points l5 so as to form an ornamental arrangement.
In Fig. 3 an alternate form of the invention is illustrated, comprising a rectangular backing plate 16 preferably of light transparent plastic such as plexi-glass. An elongated frame I! is secured across the upper edge of the plate IS in any desired manner. The frame I! is provided with a plurality of diagonally extending cross members [8 which form handkerchief receiving pockets therein.
The device of Fig. 3 is used similarly to the first form, that is, the four corners of the handkerchief are pulled upwardly between the cross members l8 and the mid-portion of the handkerchief is folded beneath the plate IS. The entire assembly is then inserted into the pocket. The length of the plate I6 is such that when resting on the bottom of the pocket the points of the handkerchief will project thereabove.
In Fig. 4, still another alternate form of the invention is illustrated. This form comprises a horizontally elongated frame I9 provided with diagonally extending separating partitions 20 which divide the frame into handkerchief receiving passages or pockets 2 I. The frame [9 is provided with a hooked pocket-engaging clip 22 which extends over the front edge of the pocket to support the frame l9 therein. The clip 22 is preferably visible on the front of the pocket and may be provided with any desired ornament 23 to provide an article of jewelry for the wearer.
The form of Fig. 4 is used similarly to the other forms, that is, the four corners of the handkerchief are pulled upwardly through the receiving pockets 2| so as to project above the pocket. The mid-portion of the handkerchief is tucked into the pocket and the clip 22 is clipped to the edge thereof as shown in Fig. 1.
The clip 22 of Fig. 4 could beused in connection with the supporting frame [0, l l and I2 of Fig. 2 or in connection with the plate l6 of Fig. 3, should it be desired to have a pocket edge ornament in addition to the handkerchief holder.
While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is desired to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is:
A device for holding and displaying a, -han dkerchief in a pocket comprising: a horizontally 16 elongated frame adapted to be positioned within a pocket adjacent the top thereof; a plurality'of parallel, diagonal partition members'extending across said frame at an incline to the axis of,
and lying in the same plane with, said frame 20 1,727,189
and forming overlapping handkerchief receiving openings in said *frame through which the-cor- 4 ners of a handkerchief may be pulled upwardly in spaced-apart overlapping relation; and a U- shaped supporting device secured at its extremities to the extremities of said frame and extending downwardly into said pocket to hold the handkerchief downward therein and to hold the frame upward therein.
