Description

Oct. 17, 1950 I 5, J, FARAONE 2,526,214
' ANCHOR Filed March 25, 1948 Fig.3.
Santa J. Faraone INVENTOR.
- flukes in the rigid assembled relation.
Patented Oct. 17, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT A 2,528,214 OFFICE ANCHOR Santo' J. Faraone, Petaluma, Calif. Application March 23, 1948, Serial No. 16,529
Another object of the invention is to provide 1 Claim. (01. 114 207) attaching means for the pairs of flukes at the lower end as well as at the side of the shank, the attaching means at the lower end of the shank being used for securing the flukes thereto in assembled relation to prevent dragging of a boat attached to the anchor and the flukes being attached to the fastening means at the side of the shank in a longitudinally aligned position with respect to each other and as well as with respect to the shank to enable storing of the anchor in a compact folded form.
A further object of the invention i to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is sufiicient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.-
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference a being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing the flukes of the anchor secured to the end of the shank in position for use,
Figure 2 is a top plan view,
Figure 3 is a side elevational view showing the anchor in its folded position, and
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on .a line 44 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates a shank for an anchor having an anchor rope attaching eye 6 at its upper end and a reduced threaded stem 1 at its lower end with a flange 8 at the inner end of the stem.
The shank 5 is also provided with a laterally projected threaded stem 9 intermediate its ends and a laterally projecting locking pin in below the stem 9.
Pairs of flukes II and I2 are provided with aligned central openings 13 and M for receiving the stem I for securing the fiukes to the lower end of shank 5 by a nut I5.
The pairs of flukes l l in the region of opening I3 is formed with a transverse groove H5 in its upper surface to receive the upper pair of fiukes l2 and also to receive the flange 8 to secure the flukes in interlocking crossed relation with respect to each other as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings and to prevent turning of the flukes relative to each other on the shank.
The upper and lower pairs of fiukes H and I2 thus provide a set of four prongs whereby one of the prongs at the end of the fluke H and one of the prongs at the end of the fluke 12 will dig into the bottom of a body of water to anchor a boat therein.
When the anchor is not in use the pairs of flukes II, I2 are removed from the threaded stem 1 and placed on the laterall extended threaded stem '9 in the position as shown in Figure 3 of the drawing and with the pair of fiukes 12 positioned innermost and provided with an opening 17 for receiving the locking pin [9 whereby to lock the flukes in a longitudinally extended position on the shank 5, the nut I5 being threaded on the stem 9 to hold the pairs of fiukes in their folded position on the shank. The tightening of the nut holds the fluke ll longitudinally aligned with flukelZ and shank 5.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptibleto certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In an anchor including a shank and a detachable fluke, a threaded stem projecting laterally from one side of the shank for holding the fluke thereon, a nut threaded on the stem and securing the fluke thereto, said fluke having an opening, and a pin projecting laterally from the shank and engaged in said opening to hold the fluke in a longitudinal position on the shank.
