1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in mooring devices and more particularly to a novel means for mooring a boat to a dock or other fixed object.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which may quickly be attached to the boat, which may be as readily released, but which will not readily jam or release by itself. 7
Another object of the invention is to provide means of the type which may be dropped out of the way when the boat is not being moored.
Other and further objects will ap ear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the mooringmeans in use.
Fig. 2 is a side view in elevation of a sleeve.
Fig. 3 is a front view in elevation of the same.
Fig. 4 is a top view of the mooring end of the rear mooring attachment.
Fig. 5 is a side view of the same, showing the boat eye in section.
Fig. 6 is a side view of the front mooring attachment.
Referring more particularly to the drawings,
' the numeral Iii refers to a dock or pier, which has, for the rear mooring attachment H, the journal sleeves l2, which are secured to the dock by any suitable means and are in horizontal axial alignment, to accommodate the cross segment 53 of attachment ll. Integral with cross segment I3 are the arm l4 and the diagonal arm IS, the outer ends of which are welded together or otherwise fastened. The arm M has an integral downward extension l6, adapted for engagement in the eye I! on the rear end of boat [8. The arm I5 after juncture with arm 14 adjacent their outer ends continues on horizontally to form a short extension [9.
An eye 20 on dock engages freely the eye 2| on the front mooring rod 22, which latter has a downward extension 23 at the outer end thereof, and the short continuing protruding portion 24. The extensions; and 23 are provided with apertures at 24 and 25 thereof, to provide accommodation for the use of a padlock or the like,
if desired.
The extension 24, during rolling of the boat will prevent catching of the rod 22 in the boat eye 26, as might happen if extension 24 were absent, and the same is true of extension I9 on the rear mooring attachment H.
In use, the attachment II and the arm 22 will normally hang downwardly into the water and out of the way of boats passing or approaching the dock Hi. When a boat is to be moored, the
downward extensionZE is inserted into the bow claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A boat mooring apparatus comprising a triangular member having its apex at the boat end thereof, the two side legs of said triangular member at the point of convergence continuing parallel for a portion of their lengths, one leg terminating in a downwardly directed element having a padlock-receiving eye at its lower end, and the other leg projecting in a horizontal extension beyond said, downwardly directed element and a boat eye to be engaged by the downwardly directed element, and a Weld joint fixing said legs at the area of contact.
