Description

p 6, 1950 A. WILLIAMS v 2,523,852
CARTER Filed Nov. 20, 1946 ,1 IZVVENTOR.
2703" VIZ-722287223,
ATTIJ RNEYB Patented Sept. 26, 1950 NITE ITSTATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for supporting womens stockings and more particularly to adevice which can be readily adjusted.
The usual womens supporters are connected to a girdle which in warm weather is extremely inconvenient and uncomfortable.
It is an object, therefore, of this invention to provide a device which can be used by women in all climates with great comfort and convenience.
A further object is to provide a device in which a resilient member is adapted to encircle the leg of a wearer, and having means by which the tension of the member can be controlled as described.
A further object, is to provide a device including a hookless fastener, by means of which a garter or similar supporter can be conveniently adjusted in accordance with the desires of the wearer.
These and other objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof,
and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a device embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of the device.
. Figure 3 is a detail view of the device.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 66 of Figure 3.
In accordance with the invention, the supporter is shown to comprise a strip of an elastic material i, which is designed to encircle the leg of the wearer as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Connected to the strip of elastic material I is a hookless fastener which can be drawn back and forth to regulate the tension of the elastic band I. Connected to the hookless fastener is a hook and eye device of a well known type which can be secured readily to a, stocking or other device.
It will be seen that there has been provided a simple and effective device which can be conveniently and readily applied for the purpose of holding the hosiery of women and in a comfortable manner.
The device obviously is capable of many modifications. For example it can be applied for supporting gloves on an arm, as well as supporting hosiery.
The above description is to be considered as illustrative and not limitative of the invention of which modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope as denoted in the appended claim.
The invention having been described, what is claimed is:
In a hosiery supporting device, an elastic band designed to encircle the leg of a wearer, a hookless fastener attached to and connecting the juxtaposed sides of the elastic band adjacent the ends of the elastic band, and the adjustment of said fastener restricting the length of said band to adjust the tension thereof and a hook and eye fastener connected tothe end of said hookless fastener for connection to the hosiery.
AMOS WILLIAMS.
