The present invention relates to pedicure appliances and has for its main object the provision of a toe separator for holding toes in spread position for preventing the normal tendency of the toes to assume overlapping position, so as to facilitate application of scissors or clipper for clipping the toe nails and minimizing the chances of injuring the toes due to their tendency to overlap.

A still further object of the present invention is the provision of a toe separator of the character indicated which, broadly, consists of a horizontal bar with four integrally formed fingers projecting from the bar, and which fingers may be insertable between the toes for maintaining the same in spread position during the pedicure.

With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawing forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views;

Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the present device;

Fig. 2 is a top elevational view thereof, showing the operative position of the device with the toes; and

Fig. 3 is a front elevational View of the device while in an operative position with the toes.

Referring in detail to the present drawing there is shown therein a toe separator, which is preferably made of plastic or other rigid material, and

which is comparatively thin so that the same may,

be made by stamping out of a sheet of suitable material. The toe separator includes a horizontal bar or sheet ID, from which four fingers H project in a co-planar relation with said bar Ill. Said fingers il define three openings 12 for reception therewithin of three middle toes. The edges at the inner ends of said fingers H and the merged bass edge of bar m are made arcuate as at l3, in conformity with the arcuate contour of the toes on a transverse plane, with which contour said arcuate edges contact in the operative position of the device with the toes.

The outer edges of the outermost fingers II have arcuate indentations I 4 within which the lateral arcuate faces of large and small toes are receivable.

Said bar In and fingers II are made arcuate on a transverse cross-section longitudinally of said bar Ill as is clearly seen in Fig. 2, in order that the device may follow the natural, somewhat arcuate line drawn through the crotches defined by the toes, as is seen in Fig. 2.

The device illustrated, being intended for the use with the left foot, has its two left fingers II, as viewed in Fig. 1, somewhat longer than the remaining two fingers, so as to conform with the greater thickness of the large and second toes. The device for use in connection with the right foot is of an identical construction, except that the right two fingers H, as viewed in Fig. 1, should be somewhat longer than the remaining two fingers in order to correspond with the greater thickness of the large and second toes of the right foot.

In the use of the device fingers l l are inserted between toes l5, and adjacent crotches l6. Preferably the insertion takes place from above of the toes. By this operation three middle toes fall within openings l2 and contact arcuate edges l3. When the device is in an operative position with the toes the lateral, inner, arcuate faces of the large and small toes will be in contact with indentations [4. Since said indentations l4 follow the natural contour of the contacting faces of the large and small toes, no ordinary manipulation of the toes will'be capable of dislodgin the device therefrom, particularly in view of the fact that the toes being in a spread condition bear against the lateral edges of fingers II, with the large and small toes bearing against the outer edges of the outermost fingers H and within indentations l4.

With the device in an operative position with the toes the latter are kept separated and apart, preventing overlapping thereof and facilitating application of scissors, clippers or other instrument used in a pedicure.

While there is described herein a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

What I claim as new is:

A pedicure appliance comprising a sheet of relatively thin material, said sheet being arcuate longitudinally thereof, and at least four spacedapart fingers extending from said sheet forming therebetween substantially U -shaped recesses, the two end fingers being longer than the remaining fingers, the sides of said fingers being substantially parallel, said fingers being substantially greater in width from side to side than the thickness of said material but of a lesser width than said recesses formed therebetween.
