These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the specification and the drawings, wherein:

Describing the invention in detail and referring .7 first to the modification shown in Figures 1 to 5, the pot or ladle 2 is provided with horizontally extending trunnions 4 and 6 upon which the pot may be suspended from hangers I0 and I2 forming part of a hail, the lower or hook ends 14 and [6 of the hangers being hooked under the trunnions 4 and 6, respectively, and the upper ends of the hangers being connected in any convenient manner as by nuts l8, [8 to a cross piece 20 designed'forconnection to an overhead means (not shown) for conveying the pot.
The pot, after having received a charge of molten metal, is poured or teemed by hand into the molds by rotating the pot on the trunnions by means of a lever or tilting handle, generally designated 22, said handle being in the form of an L-shaped bar comprising a vertical extension or upstanding arm 24 spaced from the pot and a horizontal extension or arm 26 (Figure 1) extending parallel to the axis of the trunnion 4* and having a down-turned portion 28 at its inner end adapted to fit into a socket 30 in said trunnion 4 for thus removably keying the handle to the pot, it being understood that movement of the handle will eifect corresponding movement of the pot.
A sheet metal shield or hand guard, generally indicated at 32, is provided at the upper end of the arm 24. The guard is, in general, semicylindrical in form and comprises top and bottom webs 34 and 36 connected at vertically spaced points as at 38 and 40, respectively, to the arm 24 of the tilting handle in any convenient manner as by welding, A semicylindrical web 42 extends between the top and bottom webs and is connected at its upper and lower edges as by welding at 44 and 46 to the edges of the top and bottom webs remote from the arm 24. The web 42 with said top and bottom webs defines a pocket 48 large enough to conveniently admit an operator's hand, the guard serving to protect the operator's hand from the heat radiated by the molten metal in the pot.
A V-shaped elbow lever or latching member 50 is disposed in the pocket 48, said lever being pivoted at its elbow on a pin or bolt 52 extending through said lever 50 and through a pair of lugs 54, 54fixed to the arm 24 at a point intermediate the points of connection 38 and 40 between the arm and the top and bottom webs of the uard. v
The lever 50 comprises'a diagonally upwardly extending leg 56 (Figure 1) and a horizontally extending leg 58, the leg'58 merging at one end into the lower end of said leg 56 and at its other end extending through an opening 50 in the web 42 of the guard. It will be noted that the leg 55 serves as a handle for operating the latching member, and the leg 58 serves as a latching bolt as hereinafter described.
A stop lug 62 (Figure 1) is formed on the lever 50 on the outer side of the elbow formed by the juncture between the legs 56 and 58 thereof, said lug 62 being adapted for abutment as at 64 against the arm 24 to limit counterclockwise rotation (Figure 1) of the lever 50 for a purpose hereinafter described.
A keeper or socket member, generally designated 66 and illustrated in detail in Figures 3 and 5, is sleeved over the hanger ll] of the bail and may be fixed thereto as by welding. The keeper comprises a cylindrical portion 68 with an opening 10 accommodating sleeving of the keeper onto the hanger ID. A pair of spaced vertical webs 12 and 14 extend from one side of said cylindrical portion, said vertical websmerging at their upper ends into a horizontal web I6 extending therebetween, said horizontal web I6 merging at its inner end into the cylindrical portion 68 and being downwardly offset as at I8 at its outer end and with said side webs defining a socket 80 adapted to receive the adjacent end of therleg 5'8-.of the=latch-rmember--50 when theipot is in an upright position.v .The web I2 is formed with an upwardly extending lug 82 at one side of the socket 80, said lug82 serving as a stop, it being adaptedto. abut. against the adjacent end of the leg 58 when'saidleg"58 is in raised position to prevenhbackward tilting of the pot. At the opposite side ;of-wthe;socket 80 the web I4 is formed with a laterally extending downwardly sloping web .84 which, as hereinafter noted, is adapted to guide theleg 58 into the pocket 30 when the pot is being zreturne'tl from a tilted position= to its upright position. lever raises the rod I40, which in turn raises the free end of the link I44 above the keeper I52 whereupon the pot is permitted to be rotated forwardly for pouring. Upon the completion of each pouring operation, the operator again raises the link I44 by actuating the bell crank lever and, upon returning the pot to its upright position, releases the bell crank lever whereupon, due to gravity, the bell crank lever is caused to rotate in a clockwise direction (Figure 7), the rod connected thereto moving downwardly and the link I44 dropping behind the keeper I54.
It is to be understood that I do not wish to be limited by the exact embodiments of the device shown which are merely by way of illustration and not limitation as various and other forms of the device will, of course, be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims.
I claim:
1. The combination of a pot having trunnions, a. bail rotatably suspending said pot from said trunnions, one of said trunnions having a transverse opening therethrough, means for rotating the pot for teeming the same, said means comprising a handle member having an end portion extending through said opening for removably interlocking said member with the pot, said member having an intermediate portion extending from said end portion away from the pot and seated on top of said one trunnion, a handhold portion integral with said intermediate portion and extending angularly thereto, said handhold portion in the upright position of the pot being located in the vertical plane of said bail, and means for releasably locking the pot in upright position comprising a latch element disposed be tween said handhold portion and said bail and comprising a pair of angularly related interconnected legs, means pivotally connecting said element at the juncture of said legs with said handhold portion on an axis disposed between said handhold portion and bail and angularly related to said plane, one of said legs sloping upwardly from said axis away from said handhold portion toward the bail, the other of said legs extending generally perpendicular to said handhold portion toward said bail, a keeper on said bail disposed below said other leg and having an upwardly open socket receiving an end of said other leg therein, an abutment lug on said keeper extending upwardly at one side of said socket, a downwardly sloping web at the opposite side of the socket, said legs being rotatable toward and away from said bail and, when rotated away from said bail, raising said other leg out of said socket whereupon said member may be rotated to teem said pot, a lug at the juncture of said legs extending downwardly from said axis toward said handhold portion, said lug being adapted to abut against said portion to limit rotation of said element toward said bail to prevent said other leg from moving to a position below said keeper when said handle member is rotated from upright position whereby when said handle member is rotated from an inclined to an upright position said other leg is caused to engage said s1oping web and to slide thereon into said socket, said handle member being disconnectable from said keeper in the upright position of said handle member by lifting said handle member upwardly to withdraw said end portion of said handle member from said opening in the trunnion and lift said other leg of said latch member out of said keeper socket.
2. The combination of a pot, a bail rotatably suspending the pot, a handle connected to the pot for rotating and teeming the same, said handle having a handhold portion extending upwardly in the upright position of the pot, and means for releasably locking the pot in upright position comprising a latch disposed between the handhold portion and the bail and comprising a pair of angularly related legs, means pivotally connecting said latch at the juncture of said legs with the handhold portion on an axis extending angularly to the plane of the bail, one of the legs sloping upwardly from the axis toward the bail and the other leg extending generally perpendicular from said handhold portion toward the ball, a keeper on the bail below said other leg and having a socket receiving said other leg therein, an inclined surface on the keeper sloping downwardly at one side of said plane and extending to said socket, said latch being manually rotatable away from the bail by grasping said one leg and portion together to raise said other leg out of the socket whereupon said handle may be rotated from an upright to an inclined position for teeming the pot, and a lug at the juncture of said legs extending downwardly from said axis toward the handhold portion for abutment therewith to limit rotation of the latch toward the bail to prevent said other leg from moving to a position in a path below the keeper when the handle is inclined and the latch is released whereupon, when said handle is rotated to upright position, said other leg is positioned in a path intersecting said sloping surface whereby said other leg is caused to slide on'said surface into the socket.
