2 Claims.
1 My invention relates generally to window pane supports, and in particular it relates to an apparatus for supporting a sheet or pane of relatively frangible and brittle material such as glass and 2 Figure 2 is a perspective view of the draw bar component thereof.
My device as a whole comprises a front member l and an interfitted rear member l2. These the like. More particularly my invention relates 5 members [0, I2 are disposed atop a fixed support, to the draw bar component and its associated as [4-, secured to the window opening in the parts in devices of this character, which combuilding walls as I5. Butt 62 has a central Other and further objects of my invention will s ai t p rt n 0. a d a w e p ti n 12 at i part be obvious, and 111 other wi11 b apeach end thereof bent outwardly therefrom. parent from the following description of an illusdy 64 comprises a flat strip 14' as wide as center trative embodiment thereof. portion 10, and extending therefrom at right In the drawings annexed hereto and forming a angles therei- Head 66 y be e a with part hereof, strip 14 and in line therewith and is spaced Figure l is a part perspective, part sectional therefrom by a crimp line 16 extending the width View of one form of device constructed accordof the strip 14, the head itself comprising a porlug to and embodying my invention; and 55 tion in line with strip 74 and a bent over wing 82 downwardly and inwardly angled from portion 80, the terminal portion 84 of which wing 82 is bent upwardly towards the underside of strip 14 and in line with crimp 16. The point of angulation between portion 80 and wing 82 is also crimped as at 86, in lateral alignment with crimp "I6, so that portion 80 between crimps 16, 86 constitutes the floor of a channel which is in vertical alignment with opening 59 in shelf 32'. As seen in the drawings, draw bar 60 is formed of relatively light gauge springy material, and is of such length as to extend almost from the front to the back members on their inner aspects.
In use, the butt portions 62, 62 of the draw bars are keyed into channel or recess 26, the angulated wing portions l2, '52 thereof, in bearing against the floor of the channel, serving. to prevent side slipping thereof. Bead 20 of front member Ill is disposed against concaved recess 42 in rear member l2, and then the sheet M of material to be supported is disposed between the spaced pairs 24, 36 of the upper ends of the front and back members. A plurality of threaded bolts 52, 52' are then inserted in openings t and worked downwardly until the bottom end 90 thereof engages the channel or groove to in the upper portion of draw bar head 6-6. As the bolt 52 is worked downwardly, head 5G is forced downwardly until wing 82 bears against incline M.
The butt portion (52 is locked within socket 2t, and as body it and head 6'5 of the draw bar are moved downwardly under boltilZ, the front member 10;, 'at the upper portion 22 thereof is drawn towards plate M, pressing same against the opfposed-end 360i the rear member 12, front It pivpting at 20, '42 about the foot of rear member 12. As bolts '52, -52 'are threaded downwardly still further, wing 82 riding down incline 44, will be forced towards the underside of crimp 16. The resilient pressure thus exerted-will hold the plate M firmly between the curved tips 25, 36 of the *front and rear members. There may permissibly be only very slight flexion between the body 14 "of the draw *bar'and the butt 1E! thereof but not so "much as to prevent downward movement of the head portion from being almost directly i transmitted to the channel-held butt 10 and to the front portion [0.
My draw bar is simple to construct, and may be stamped out with not too complicated machinery. It is easy to install and operate, and with it, the interposed sheet M will be held firmly with resilient pressure.
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A draw bar of thin gauge spring metallic material comprising a fiat butt portion, an elongated flat body portion extending from the butt and at right angles thereto, a head portion in line with the body having at the outer end thereof a wing portion extending downwardly from and reversely or the head and terminating in a short leg portion reaching upwardly towards and at right angles to the body, the butt portion having a flat integral wing at each end thereof angled outwardly therefrom.
2. A draw bar of thin gauge spring metallic material comprising a flat butt portion, an elongated fiat body portion extending from the butt and at right angles thereto, a head portion. in line with the body having at the outer end thereof a wing portion extending downwardly from and reversely of the head and terminating in a short leg portion reaching upwardly towards and at right angles to the body, the head portion being crimped to provide a transversely extending groove opening from the underside thereof, into which groove the short leg portion extends on compression of the head, the grooves defining the direction of extension and limit thereof.
