2 Claims.

This invention relates to a costume flower support. More particularly, it comprises an article adapted to be secured to the costume of the wearer and providing a support for a number of cut stem flowers within a receptacle preferably pro-- viding moisture for the preservation of the contents of the receptacle. The invention includes the provision of an article adapted to be taken apart for cleansing and under certain conditions adapted to be rearranged and assembled to suit the particular positioning of the flowers with a view to predetermined decorative effects. The invention also includes the provision of means to hold out stem flowers carrying moisture in its lower portions and supported at an intermediate point by means serving a plurality of functions such as the holding of the flower receptacles in clamped relation, the holding of an ornamental member at the front of the article, and the provision of means for fastening the article to the costume of the wearer.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a costume flower support with means for attaching the support to the costume of the wear- ;ceptacles to receive individual cut stem flowers with the lower portions of aid stems immersed in a water bath.

Another object of the invention is to provide a multiple series oi receptacles for out stem flowers with supporting means therefor adapted to be secured to the costume of the wearer and to hold an ornamental unit in association with the flower receptacles.

. Other and further objects of the invention will appear in the course of the following description. To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, said inventionconsists of the means hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

e The annexed drawing and thefollowing description set forth in detail certain structure embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting, however, but one of various structural forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.

As is clearly shown in the drawing, this costume flower support comprises means for receiving the stem of a, flower, such means being in the form of elongated receptacle l in side by side relation, each consisting of a tube having its lower end preferably out along an oblique line and closed by a sealing member 2, the upper end 3 being open to receive the stems of one or more flowers or the like which may be inserted in the tube with the lower ends dipped into water 4 or other suitable fluid contained Within the lower portion of the receptacle. The invention has in view the provision of at least one receptacle in every instance and in most cases the use of a pair of receptacles as shown in Figures 1 and 4. For certain specialized purposes, more receptacles may be provided in accordance with a particular character of ornamental effect in view. Thus, in Figure 6, four receptacles are shown, the principles of the construction correspond to those illustrated in Figures 4 and 5.

' The form of construction seen in Figures 1, 2 and 3, consists of a pai'r of elongated arcuate tubular receptacles I, each open at its upper end, as shown at 3. The receptacles I are connected together intermediate their ends in side-by-side relation by a body member 5.

The body member 5 consists of pairs of telescopically related thimbles l. Each tubular receptacle l extends through and adjustably fits one of the inner thinibles l, the latter when pressed inwardly serving to engage the adjacent receptacle and support it in position. The outer thimbl'es 6 are rigidly connected together by a 3 spacing member 8. By preference, when the receptacles l are in use they are adjusted angularly in the thimbles 1 so that their adjacent end portions curve or diverge outwardly, to permit full display of the flowers which may be supported in the receptacles as shown in Fig. 1. 9, l0, indicate sections of wires connected at their inner ends to the spacing member 8. Each wire section 9, It), extends around the adjacent thimble 6 to the opposite side thereof, the outer end portion of the wire section being bent outwardly and terminating in a loop I l alined with the loop H on the corresponding terminating end of the other wire section. 12 indicates a bar extending through the alined loops ll, one end of the bar being provided with a head l3 arranged to engage the adjacent loop I I. The free end portion of the bar 12 is provided with screw threads to take a nut 14 which may be tightened against the adjacent loop I I to secure the bar in position. indicates a support of convex shape provided on its inner side and centrally of the support with a clip ll, preferably of U-shape, the bottom of which is suitably secured to the support I5. The legs of the clip terminate in alined perforated end portions 18 through which the bar l2 extends to connect the support thereto. The outer surface l6 of the support may be ornamented in any desired manner. Various types of ornamental elements may be incorporated with the support H5. As is shown in the drawing, an ornamental bow l9, formed of suitable material such as a strip of metal, leather, fabric or the like, having ornamental characteristics, may be tied around the support l5 or cli H. The rearward side of the body member 5 supports a conventional type of securing pin 29 the main bar of which i suitably welded at 20a to the wire sections 9, ID, the said pin having a safety latch member 21 of standard construction.

It will be noted that with the construction described, any desired number of tubular members may be provided for by duplicating the elements of the clamping device and providing additional receptacles. Likewise, it will be noted that when a change of the central ornament is desired, the clamping member l2 may be released and the support [5 withdrawn and another support substituted in place thereof carrying its own individual type of ornament.

The form of construction shown in Figures 4 and 5 is designed to provide a simplified costume flower support adapted for quantity production and also adapted to be made in very small sizes without in any way affecting the adjustment of the parts and the permanence of the connections. In the form shown a pair of tubular members 3| are provided similar to the tubular members shown in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive. The exterior surfaces, however, are smooth throughout, while the tubular members I may, if desired, have screw threaded connection with the telescopic cylindrical elements 6 and l, at a central point of the tubular receptacle 3|. The central clamping member 32 provides a support, such clamping member being formed of a metal strip bent to provide a pair of enlarged loops 33 and 34, and an intermediate reversely turned loop 35 adapted to provide a point of engagement for the central ornament presently to be described. A clamping bar 36 serves to hold the loops of the clamping member in firm engagement with the tubular receptacles, the clamping bar being provided with a fixed head member 31 and a screw .threaded member 38 adapted to engage the free 4 end of the clamping bar. The ends of the strip of metal providing the central clamping member are turned outwardly as shown in Figure 5, one end 39 providing a hinge member for the securing pin 40 and the other end 4| providing a point of support for the safety latch member 42.

In the construction just described, the central ornament preferably comprises a central support 43 which may have the form of a metal shell having a flat supporting stem 44 secured to the rearward face and provided with a ribbon 45 or other suitable ornament firmly secured to such shell in any suitable manner. The supporting stem 44 is perforated adjacent its free end to permit the clamping bar 36 to engage therethrough and to firmly hold a central ornament against the forward surface of the central suppor When it is desired to provide a series of receptacles such as are shown in Figure 6 with a holding clip of the construction shown in Figures 4 and 5, loops 35 may be interposed between adjacent tubular receptacles and the free ends of the outer loops may be utilized to support the hinge and the safety latch of the pin 40 whereby the strip may merely serve as abutments against which the fixed head member and the clamping member of the clamping bar 35 engage. The ornament may be ecured in the same manner as shown in Figure 5.

While a number of flowers and associated floral material are shown within each of the tubes illustrated in Figure 1, it is to be understood that when the costume flower support is made of very small size, the tubular receptacles will be of a size to receive only the single stem of a blossom and thus the entire ornament and support will be what may be termed miniature in character and provide a pin with flower ornamentation having an individual water receptacle whereby the ornament may be worn for a long period of time without losing the fresh, natural appearance of the flowers.

Other modes of applying the principle of my invention may be employed instead of the one explained, change being made as regards the structure herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any of the following claims or the equivalent of such stated means be employed.

I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention:

1. An article of the character described having in combination a body member consisting of pairs of telescopically related thimbles disposed in side-by-side relation, a spacing device for connecting the outer thimbles together, a pair of wire sections, fixed to the rear side of said spacing device between said outer thimbles, each section extending around the adjacent one of said thimbles to its front side, the outer end portion of each wire section being bent laterally outwardly and terminating in a loop alined with and spaced from the loop on the terminating end portion of the other wire section, a bar disposed at right angles to the axes of said thimbles and extending through said loops and provided at one end with a head arranged to engage the adjacent loop, the opposite end portion of said bar being provided with screw threads and supporting a nut for removably engaging the adjacent loop under pressure to secure said bar in position, a supporting member for an ornamental device provided on its inner side with elements engaging said bar between said loops, a safety pin the back bar of which is disposed at right angles to the axes of said thimbles and secured to the rear side of said body member, and elongated tubular receptacles for liquid, each open at its outer end to receive the cut stem of a flower, each receptacle extending through one of said inner thimbles and. removably and friction'ally engaging the inner wall thereof.

2. An article as claimed in claim 1 wherein said receptacles are arcuate shape longitudinally, whereby their opposite corresponding end por- 10 tions may be disposed in diverging relations.
