Referring to the device shown in Figures 4, 5, and 6, the cabinet is formed with fixed end walls and 2|, a fixed top wall 22, and a, hinged front wall 24. In this instance mounted near the base of the end walls on the inside are guide strips 25, one at each end. The sliding bottom 26 in this instance, when in place, extends under-the end walls and fits snugly against the back wall or rear panel 24a.

The portion of this bottom panel intermediate the end walls is raised by the portion 21, which leaves projecting ends to underlie the end walls, and near the ends of this raised portion 21 are mounted guide strips 28. The strips 25 on the end walls act as a guideway being engaged by the raised portion 21 and the strips 28 at each end of the cabinet. Thus the bottom is removableas in the first instance. The front panel in this case comes down into engagement with the front edge of the bottom thus locking the bottom in place when it is closed.

Located on the end walls, as in the first instance are the brackets 29, forming sockets for the tips of the roller 30 on which is the flag 3 i.

The interior of the box is covered with reflective material. It may be white enamel in a number of coats, but in the de luxe style of cabinet it is formed of applied sheets of white plastic veneer. Located in the top of the box above the roller is a lighting unit consisting of luminous vapor tubes 32, with connections and mountings as shown, but which will not be described in detail. Other upwardly located sources of light will serve, but the vapor tubes are not productive of much heat and are preferred, because special ventilation is not required. The tubes are preferably a pair, arranged parallel with each other and so spaced and located that the location of the roller mountings lies in a vertical plane of the intervening space. One tube could be used, of course, with the reflective inner walls spreading the light.

' As a result, as already indicated, when the bottom is removed, the fiag extended and the front of the box closed down and the lights turned on, the effect of the reflective interior of the cabinet from the middle of the open bottom of which the flag extends, and particularly where there are two spaced tubular lights, the flag is illumina'ted' from both'sides and in addition has room to flutter in the breeze, if any, giving a very brilliant and beautiful effect.

As in the first instance when the flag is rolled up and the cabinet closed, the flag is well protected. As in the first case arrangements of at tachment to the roller are such that the fiag will be fully extended when the roller is unwound. A white plastic panel 40 may be loosely slid into the cabinet above the luminous tubes.

Normally it is not necessary to form a hole in the cabinet for the electric cord to connect up the device to a source of current since the bottom of the cabinet is open when in use. However, with the fixedly installed system, it will be feasible to provide connections to a fitting (not shown) similar to a wall outlet fitting, into which the prong of an electrical cord can be inserted. Thus there need not be a hole extending through the box.

, It will be noted that in each of my constructions there is the common cabinet features in several forms, and of course, other forms are feasible. In any of the cases the cabinet can readily be locked. Thus in the modification shown there is a small hasp 4|, which engages over a loop plate 42 on the bottom panel, thus providing for a small padlock to lock the entire structure closed.

Such a hasp and loop could also be used with the other constructions in all of which the front wall must be elevated before the interior of the box is available.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A cabinet for housing of a fiag, and adapted for the extension of said flag for display which comprises a cabinet'fixedly closed at the ends, top and rear panel portions, and having a hinged front panel, a bottom for the cabinet which slidably engages with the end walls and closes the cabinet when not used for display, and means within the cabinet for mounting the ends of a roller lengthwise thereof, in position for a flag about said roller to be projected through the bottom of the cabinet when the bottom is removed.

2. The combination of claim 1 in which the interior of the box is surfaced with light reflective material, and a source of illumination is housed therein, the mounting for the roller being located between the front and rear edges of the end walls so that light reflected from the interior of the cabinet will impinge on both sides of the flag.

3. A cabinet for housing a flag comprising end walls, a top wall, and a back wall fixedly secured together and slightly longer than the flag to be displayed is wide, a front wall closing the cabinet at the front and hingedly connected to the top wall thereof, a bottom panel, and slideway means located on the ends of the bottom panel, and on the lower edges of the end walls for slidably mounting the bottom panel removably in place to close the cabinet from the bottom, and brackets'located in the interior of the end walls approximately midway of their extent so as to mount a flag wound roller rotatably therein, with the fiag, when the bottom of the cabinet is removed, extending midway approximately of the open bottom of the cabinet for display purposes.

4. The combination of claim 3 in which the front wall engages the front edge of the bottom wall, hence when closed with the bottom in place, constituting the sole means of access to the cabinet.
