It is accordingly the prime object of my inventionto, provide a condenser ofthe, character describedwhichissimple of. design, easy of manufacture and reliable in operation.

Preferably, my improved condenser is placed as close as possible to the: nip of the succeeding pair of rollsandabove the line; of direction between the nipsof the pairs of rolls with which itis associated; The. fibers, are thus restrained against separating throughout their travelfromone pair of drawingrolls; to the. next.

The group of rolls B comprises a pair of draw.-
ing rolls 3| and 32 and a second pair of: drawing and discharge. rolls 33 and,34.. In the formzofimy invention shownin Figs. 1 ,to 5, the. condenser is made of wire and is provided .with a shank 48. having an eye49 formed therein to receive a1securing bolt. 51. The shank48extends verticallyand is laterally offset with respect to the line of travel of the sliver S. At its upper end it is bent later ally asshown at'52and then downwardly inclined as. shown at 53.. Atthe lower end of. the inclined portion-5.3.. the end of the wire is turned upwardly to providev a substantially. vertical portion 54 which. is, directly forward of the bottom of the V notch formed with the inclined portion53. The
sliver S; is thus. first engaged bythe inclined portion 53. which causes a folding over of the fibers as indicatedat 56. in Figs..l, 2 and 5 to the extent that afalse. twist is placed therein,.which extends rearwardly tothe nip of the pair of rolls 23 and 24', and is then engagedby the vertical portion 54, offsetting slightly thejlineof travel of the sliver. The engagement of the sliver by thevertical portion 54 holds the false twistin the fibers until the. sliver. leaves. the condenser. Thereafter there is no twist in the sliver-as it enters the nip between the rolls. 3| and 32. 3 that the lateral offset of the shank 48 from the laterally inclined portion 53, permits a workman to reach down between the rolls 23-24 and 3l32, to place the sliver S in the notch.
In Figs. 6, 7 and 8, I show a modified form of my invention in which my improved condenser is formed from a metal plate bent to shape to provide a V notch 6|. The V notch is formed by an upwardly disposed side 62 inclined to the vertical and an upwardly disposed, substantially vertical side 63. The sides converge from rear to front of the condenser. Adjacent the forward end 64 of the condenser, the inclined side 62 is provided with a rounded bead or projection 66, disposed to lie inwardly of the V notch thereby assuring that the sliver will contact the inclined side first. Also, the forward end 64 of the inclined side and the bead B6 are downwardly inclined from rear to front with respect to the direction of approach of the sliver, as shown in Fig. 8. The forward end 61 of the vertical side 63 extends past the bead 66 and lies substantially directly forward of the bottom of the V notch 6 I. The end of the vertical side preferably is rounded as indicated at 68 and lies in a vertical plane which is substantially normal to the axes of the rolls. The condenser is provided, as usual, with a supporting shank I9 for attaching to the traverse bar 46.
With either form of my invention the sliver is first engaged by the inclined surface of the condenser and next by the substantially vertical sur- The rounded surfaces 66 and 6B engaged by the sliver provide only a line contact, thereby of resistance to twisting. I have found that the amount of false twist placed in the sliver by the action of the condenser is determined, within limits, by the inclination of the inclined portion posed rearwardly of the inclined side with respect to the direction of approach of the sliver and in position for the sliver to engage the inclined side and said portion of the side which is substanbetween two successive pairs of rolls comprising a member having a V shaped notch therein with one side of the V lying in a plane which is substantially normal to the axes of the rolls and I the other side of the V inclined to said plane,
greatly reducing friction, and ofiering a minimum 53 or 62 as the case may be, the greater the inclination, the greater the amount of false twist. I have found that my improved condensers are equally effective with fine roving as with coarse; also with double creel roving. With the latter,
the strands are placed together and blended to y pass between the rolls.
Although I have shown only one condenser and that placed between the rolls 2324 and 3l-32, it. will be apparent that a condenser may be placed between each of successive pairs of drawing rolls. sliver is being drawn to finer numbers, it is advisable to employ more than one condenser.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that I have developed an improved condenser for use in spinning frames which is simple of design, easy of manufacture, and effective in operation.
While I have shown my invention in but two forms, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that it is not so limited, but is susceptible of various changes and modifications, without departing from the spirit thereof, and I desire, therefore, that only such limitations shall be placed thereupon as are specifically set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
l. The combination with long draft fiber attenuating apparatus embodying a plurality of pairs of drawing rolls, of a condenser interposed between two successive pairs of rolls comprising a member having a V-shaped notch therein with one side of the V lying in a plane which is sub stantially normal to the axes of the rolls and the other side of the V inclined to said plane, a portion of the side of the V which issubstantially normal to the axes of the rolls being dis- In fact, I have found that where the the inclined side being so disposed as to first engage the sliver and the side which is substantially normal to the axes of the rolls being directly rearward of the inclined side with respect to the direction of approach of the sliver.
3. Apparatus as defined in claim 2 in which the condenser is formed from a metal plate shaped to provide the V notch.
4. Apparatus as defined in claim 2 in which the condenser is constructed of wire bent to the shape specified.
5. Apparatus as defined in claim 4 in which the bottom of the notch is disposed above a line passing between the nips of said successive pair of rolls, and is directly in front of the side of the V which is substantially normal to the axes of the rolls with respect to the direction of ap proach of the sliver.
6. Apparatus as defined in claim 5 in which the condenser is mounted closely adjacent the nip of the pair of rolls to Which the sliver is being delivered. 7. The combination with long draft fiber attenuating apparatus embodying a plurality of pairs of drawing rolls, of a condenser interposed between two successive pairs of rolls comprising a member having a V-shaped notch therein with one side of the V lying in a plane which is substantially normal to the axes of the rolls and the other side thereof inclined to said plane, and an inwardly disposed projection formed on the inclined side adjacent the forward end thereof with respect to the direction of approach of the sliver.
8. The combination with long draft fiber attenuating apparatus embodying a plurality of pairs of drawing rolls, of a condenser interposed between two successive pairs of rolls comprising a plate having a pair of upwardly disposed sides converging from rear to front of the condenser with respect to the direction of approach of the sliver and forming an upwardly opening V shaped notch disposed to receive the sliver, one of said sides having a. forward edge which lies in a plane which is substantially normal to the axes of the rolls and the other side being inclined to said plane and having a forward edge which slopes downwardly from rear to front with respect to the direction'of approach of the sliver, and a rounded bead on said forward edge of the inclined side disposed inwardly of the V notch, said first mentioned forward'edge being substantially directly rearward of the bottom of the V notch with respect to the direction of approach of the sliver.
9.
