Description

Jan. 29, 1952 ASTLE PYRAMIDAL GAME PIECE Filed Aug. 1, 1949 Percy Thomas Asr/e IN V EN TOR.
BY Aflornz Patented Jan. 29, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PYRAMIDAL GAME PIECE Percy Thomas Astle, Wichita, Kans- Application August 1, 1949, Serial No. 107,856
3 Claims. 1
This invention appertains to improvements in game pieces and has for its primary object to form in a novel manner a rotatable game piece or die having a plurality of adjacent fiat facets or surfaces upon which are inscribed various identifying indicia, so that as the game piece is rotated, the indicia bearing sides or surfaces, which are axially disposed, are moved to present different combinations, which are then recorded in the playing of different games.
Another object of this invention is to provide an inexpensively constructed, durable and novelly formed game piece.
These and ancillary objects and structural features of merit are attained by this invention, a preferred embodiment of which is set forth in the following description and illustrated in the accompanyin drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the game piece;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof;
Figure 3 is an underside plan view of the same, and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a plug and lens used in the game piece.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the game piece is designated generally by the reference character and comprises a body member having a pyramidal portion l2 and a truncated pyramidal base portion M. The portion 12 has triangular shaped flat sides l6 which intersect to provide a plurality of converging edges I8, while the base portion 14 has quadrilateral sides 20.
The portion I4 is also provided in the underside thereof with a cavity 22 which communicates with an inwardly tapering truncated pyramidal cavity 24 in the portion [2. A plug 26 is positioned in the cavity 24 and has a flat outer wall 28 inscribed with indicia 30 which are aligned. with other indicia 32 on the walls 20 and indicia 34 on the walls IS.
A lens 36 is disposed in the cavity 22 and is secured to the plug 26 by suitable screw-threaded means 38, the lens 36 being positioned against the wall 28 of the plug 26 so that the indicia 30 are visible therethrough.
If desired, the portion l2 may be provided at the apex thereof with a detachable tip 40.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A game piece comprising a body member having a pyramidal portion formed with triangular shaped fiat sides, said sides intersecting to provide a plurality of converging edges, and a truncated pyramidal portion on the base of said pyramidal portion, said truncated pyramidal portion being formed with quadrilateral sides and having a cavity formed therein, a plug in the inner portion of said cavity and having a fiat outer wall, indicia means inscribed on said outer wall, and a lens positioned over said outer wall and in the outer portion of said cavity.
2. A game piece comprising a body member having a pyramidal portion formed with triangular shaped fiat sides, said sides intersecting to provide a plurality of converging edges, and. a truncated pyramidal portion on the base of said pyramidal portion, said truncated pyramidal portion being formed with quadrilateral sides and having a cylindrical cavity formed therein in communication with a inwardly tapering truncated pyramidal shaped cavity forming an enlarged cavity with said cylindrical cavity, a plug in said truncated pyramidal cavity and having a fiat outer wall provided with inscribed indicia thereon, and a lens positioned over said outer wall in said cylindrical cavity.
3. A game piece comprising a body member having a pyramidal portion formed with triangular shaped flat sides, said fiat sides intersecting to provide a plurality of converging edges, and a truncated pyramidal portion on the base of said pyramidal portion, said truncated pyramidal portion being formed with quadrilateral sides and having a cavity formed therein, a plug in the inner portion of said cavity and having a flat outer wall formed with indicia markings thereon, and a lens positioned over said outer wall and in the outer portion of said cavity, and a detachable spinning tip on said pyramidal portion.
