Description

Iam. 15, 1952 INVEN TOR.
@Tom/Ex yoke arms 2 of the hanger, each of the arms may be provided with a garment supporting member ISI provided with a loop portion I1 at its lower end for receiving a safety pin or the like and with a hook portion I8 at its upper end inserted through a hole in the side wall of the arm.
The foregoing structures are characterized by inexpensiveness of production thereof, by their rigidity, resistance to displacement and effectiveness in smoothly supporting garments notwithstanding their simplicity and inexpensiveness thereof. The operation of assembling the parts may be readily performed and once assembled the hanger is capable of repeated use without likelihood of coming apart'or becoming unstable.
I have illustrated and described my invention in an embodiment thereof which I have found very satisfactory. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe certain other modifications or adaptations as it is believed that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt the invention as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a garment hanger, the combination of a supporting yoke and a suspending hook, said yoke being of tubular cross section and of fibrous material and having downwardly diverging garment supporting arms, the central portion of the -yoke at the apex thereof having its side walls collapsed horizontally into vertically parallel abutting relation, said suspending hook being formed of wire folded upon itself with the bight of the fold constituting the bill of the hook, the strands of the folded wire being twisted together at the shank and laterally offset below the twist and terminating in downwardly extending arms folded upwardly at their lower ends to form upwardly opening clamp members terminating in inwardly projecting prongs, said clamp members embracingly engaging the exterior of the horizontally collapsed central portion of the yoke and clampingly retaining the sidewalls of the collapsed portion in vertically parallel abutting relation atl the bottom edge of the collapsed central portion and upwardly therefrom, and said inwardly projecting prongs being disposed transversely of and piercingly engaging said collapsed central portion to retain the same in said clamp members.
2. In a garment hanger, the combination of a supporting yoke, and a suspending hook, said yoke being of tubular cross section and of fibrous material and having downwardly diverging garment supporting arms, the central portion of the yoke at the apex thereof having its side walls collapsed horizontally into abutting relation, said suspending hook having a hook portion and a shank portion provided with downwardly projecting arms folded upwardly at their lower ends to form laterally spaced upwardly opening clamp members terminating in inwardly projecting prongs, said clamp members embracingly engaging the eX- terior of the horizontally collapsed central portion of the yoke and clampingly retaining the side "horizontally collapsed walls of the collapsed portion in vertically parallel abutting relation at the bottom edge of the collapsed central portion and upwardly therefrom, and said inwardly projecting prongs being disposed transversely of and piercingly engaging said central portion to retain the same in said clamp members.
3. In a garment hanger, the combination of a supporting yoke and a suspending hook, said yoke being of tubular cross section and of brous material and having downwardly diverging garment supporting arms, the central portion of the yoke at the apex thereof having its side walls into vertically parallel abutting relation, said suspending hook having a hook portion and a depending shank portion provided with downwardly projecting arms folded upwardly at their lower ends to form laterally spaced upwardly opening clamp members terminating in inwardly projecting prongs, said laterally spaced clamping members embracingly engaging the exterior of the horizontally collapsed central portion of the yoke and clampingly retaining the side walls of the collapsed portion in vertically parallel abutting relation at the bottom edge of the collapsed central portion and upwardly therefrom.
4. In a garment hanger, the combination of a supporting yoke and a suspending hook, said yoke being of fibrous material and of tubular cross section and having downwardly diverging arms, said suspending hook being connected to the yoke at the apex thereof, said yoke in spaced relation from but closely adjacent to and on opposite sides of the apex having downwardly bent portions, said yoke having its side w-alls at the apex thereof and intermediate said downwardly bent portions collapsed into substantially vertically parallel relation and supportingly engaged by said suspending hook, the under wall of said downwardly bent portions being centrally collapsed longitudinally of the yoke into substantially abutting relation with the upper wall to provide longitudinal groove-like recesses in the under wall in said downwardly bent portions, said yoke at the outer ends of the arms thereof having downwardly bent portions, the under wall of said last named downwardly bent portions being centrally collapsed longitudinally of the yoke into substantially abutting relation with the upper wall to provide longitudinal groove-like recesses in the under wall in said last named downwardly bent portions.
