Description
Sept..25, 1951 v J. K. BOOTH PIANO HAW/[ER PRESS Filed Dec. 20, 1947 IN VEN TOR.
Patented Sept. 25, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PIANO HAMMER PRESS James K. Booth, Salt Lake City, Utah Application December 20, 1947, Serial No. 792,921
1 Claim. (Cl. 81-5.1)
My invention relates to tools for reforming the striking hammers on pianos and has for its object to provide a reforming tool which will be highly efiicient and easily operated and which will reform into its initial shape a striking hammer which has been misshapen from use thereby preventing much extra cost in maintenance of a piano and at the same time increasing the life of the striking hammers.
A further object is to provide a striking hammer reforming tool which will reform and elongate the different sized striking hammers by simply using the removable lever and form in different slots in the head of the main body of the tool.
These objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described in the specifications forming a part of thi application and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings I have shown my tool with Figure 1 illustrating the use of the tool on a medium sized striking hammer.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the removable lever.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the main body lever.
In the drawings I have shown the main body and head of my device as A, which consists of a handle 5 extending between curved side wing plates 6 and 1, with the plates either made an integral part thereof or as separate plates secured thereto by suitable means such as weldmg.
The wing plates 6 and I are formed to extend from both sides of the handle 5 where the handle is formed with an arcuate or concave head 8, the serrated concavity being between the two wing plates. Spaced apart notches or keyways 9 and H] are formed in each plate on the curved inner edge II, and like keyways or notche l2 are formed on the outer end edge 13 of the wing plates.
A removable lever and pressure applying handle B is provided, said lever and handle being formed with a hand grip end l5 and a cross bar or extended keyway engaging lugs l6 and H are formed near the end [B of the handle B.
The handle B is also formed concave near the end with concave surface I9 being serrated.
Other notches or keyways may be made in the hammer forming device to provide the different sizes of hammer without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
A piano striking hammer reforming tool cornprising a handle and head having extended wing plates at the head end thereof and a concave area between the plates to receive the hammer head being reformed; notches in the edges of the wing plates; and a forming handle having extended lugs to fit in said notches in one end thereof, said handle having therein a concave area similar to, and facing that in the handle head.
JAMES K. BOOTH.
