Description

Sept. 4, 1951 M. BARNETT MOTION-PICTURE PROJECTOR CASE Filed April 29, 1947 Patented Sept. 4, 1951 NIT ED STAT ES PATENT O-FFIE 2,566,714 MOTION-PICTURE recano-*rolt :oAsE Morris Barnett, Philadelphia, Pa. Application v-zflpjrjii sie, 1947,2 ser1a1na 744,673 2 claim?. (o1. riz- 2m 1 use by anyone for carrying projectors and several film receptacles in the same case.
Another object is to provide in such a case a construction, whereby two or more film receptacles may be positioned in vertical alignment, 1
between the same partitions or between a partition and one side wall, while each of said receptacles is readily removable and reinsertable in itsparticular position independently of the one or more others in the same vertical relationship.
A further object is to provide in such a carrying case a partition that serves as one side of the receptacle compartment, and at the same time is provided with a specially designed and constructed extension for the support of a separate winding reel, which when a reel of lm is to be projected serves as the reel to receive the projected portions of the film being shown, and from which the projected film is rewound upon the original reel.
With the objects thus briefly set forth, the invention comprises further details of construction which are hereinafter fully brought out in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective View showing one embodiment of the invention in closed position; Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same with the lid raised and the front wall in outwardly lowered position; Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the closed case on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 in the direction of the arrows; Fig. 4 is a similar section on the plane indicated by the line 4 4 of Fig. 2 in the direction of the arrows; and Fig. 5 is a fragmentary section of a portion of one of the partitions showing a reel-supporting bracket secured thereto and operatively supporting an empty reel.
Referring to the drawings, one embodiment of the invention comprises a box-like structure having end walls I, a rear wall 2, an abbreviated short section of front wall 3, to which a forwardly or outwardly opening closure 4 is hingedly secured at 6, while a lid 'I is hingedly secured to said rear wall at 8, and is provided with normally depending edge flanges that constitute when in a closed position extensions of said rear end walls and of said closure 4. When said closure and said lid are in their normally closed positions. they are secured in such positions by means of a suitable draw-latch 9. A bottom S' completes the walls of the case.
Within saidcaseand spacedfrom the end walls I are partitions IU, which ,are secured to and maintained in predeterminedspaced relation Said eind walls by spacer rods Il, .which prende a Compartment in each instance ,that opQnS for: wardly while it is closed rearwardly by said rear wall. In each of these compartments, a lm receptacle I2 may rest upon the forward one of said spacer rods, as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4, and when in this position such receptacle is entirely free and independent of a similar receptacle I3 resting upon the bottom 9', each of said receptacles being withdrawable forwardly from its portion of the compartment when the forward closure 6 is in open position, while return of said closure to closed position eiectively closes both of the compartments.
To at least one of said partitions I0 is secured the lower portion I4 of a bracket I5, the upper portion of which bracket is separated from the adjacent partition to provide a narrow space I6 to receive one flange I1 of an empty reel, the other flange I8 of which is positioned upon the opposite side of said partition, when their connecting central hub I9 rests within and is supported by the lowermost portion 20 of a cutout 2 I, that extends downwardly from the upper edge of said bracket. This empty reel, which is used to receive the lm as the latter is unwound from its own reel, is thus supported independently of any and all of the receptacles and their reel contents hereinbefore described.
In addition to the foregoing provision for reels and receptacles, the lid is provided with an additional receptacle compartment indicated by the box-like enclosure 22 shown as enclosing two receptacles 22', while upon the inner surface of the bottom wall adjacent to one of said partitions is secured a smaller boxiike container 23 for holding an extra projector lamp, it being understood that the projector for which the improved carrying case is designed is not shown in the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A carrying case for a motion picture projector and film, comprising rear, side and bottom walls, a lid hingedly carried by said rear wall, a let-down closure hingedly supported adjacent to and by an extension of the forward portion of said bottom wall and it its lower position forming a shelf, and a pair of partitions secured to and in spaced relation with the respective end walls by horizontally disposed pairs of vertically spaced rods which are operative to support a lm reel or a receptacle for the same, a reel or reel receptacle carried by the uppermost pair of said rods being accessible and removable from the case upon raising said lid, while a reel or reel receptacle carried by a lower pair of said rods is accessible and removable from the case only by opening said let-down closure into shelf position.
2. A carrying case for a motion picture projector and lm, comprising rear, vside and bottom walls, a lid hingedly carried by said rear wall, a let-down closure hingedly supported adjacent to and by an extension of the forward portion of said bottom wall and in itsy lower position forming a shelf, a pair of partitions secured to and in spaced relation with-the respective end walls by horizontally disposed pairs of vertically spaced rods which are operative to support a lm reel or a receptacle for the same, a reel or reel receptacle carried by the uppermost pair of said rods being accessible and removable from the case upon raising said lid, while-a reel or reel receptacle carried by a lower pair of said rods is accessible and removable from the case only by 25 opening said let-down closure into shelf position,
tion.
