This invention relates to dispensing devices and has particular reference to a device for dispensing the contents of a bottle, such as catsup, chile sauce, and like condiments which have a tendency to stick to the sides of the bottle and which are hard to dispense.

A further object i to produce a device of a character which may be removably attached to any standard bottle.

A further object is to produce a device which is economical to manufacture, one which is readily cleansed, and one which will be easy to manipulate.

A still further object is to produce a device which is neat in appearance and, therefore, one which will not detract from the ordinary catsup bottle appearance.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

Catsup and like condiments are usually put up in bottles from which they are dispensed, removing the cap and tipping the bottle so that the contents thereof will flow from the bottle direcly on to the food to be treated. Due to the nature of such condiments, it often occur that it is necessary to shake the bottle vigorously or to tap it in order to cause the contents to flow therefrom. Such a procedure results in the inability to measure the amount being dispensed, which may be either too little or too much.

Applicant has, therefore, devised a dispenser which may be attached to the top of an ordinary bottle through the medium of which dispenser the contents of the bottle may be readily discharged in given quantities.

Referring to the drawings, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, i shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a bottle having a neck portion 6, which is provided with the customary bead 1.

My invention consists of a cap 8, adapted to surround the neck and having an annular recess 9, which will fit over the bead 1.

This cap is also provided with a lip I6, over which the bottle contents are dispensed.

In operation, when my device is attached to a bottle, as shown in Fig. 1, the rod will be in its lowermost position, as shown in this figure, the valve II, will be closed against the top of the bottle and thus the bottle will be entirely sealed.

When it is desired to dispense any of the contents of the bottle, the bottle is turned upon its side and the rod is moved to the dotted line position of Fig. 2, where it will noted that the sides of the plunger will engage the sides of the neck and form a chamber A, trapping any condiment therein and then further movement of the rod will force this condiment to actuate the valve H.

so that the condiment will be dispensed over the lip l6.

When the bottle is almost empty, the rod Il, may be manipulated so that the plunger may be used as a scraper to scrape or remove any of the condiment which may remain on the sides of the bottle so that the same may be worked into the neck and dispensed, thus enabling the user to completely empty the contents of the bottle, after which the device is removed from the bottle, washed and replaced upon a full bottle.

It will thus be seen that I have produced a device which will accomplish all of the objects above set forth.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

A bottle contents dispenser comprising a flexible cap adapted to be positioned on the neck of a bottle and surrounding the upper portion of the neck, said cap having a valve-like portion formed integral therewith and engaging the top of the neck of the bottle, a rod slidable through said valve-like portion and having a plunger positioned on the lower extremity thereof, the diameter of said plunger being such as to engage the inner surface of the neck of the bottle when moved therethrough, whereby, when said rod is partially withdrawn from said bottle, said plunger will force trapped contents of the bottle confined by said neck against said valve to open said valve and eject the trapped material.
