A similar elongated corner member 20' and a similar moulding member 30 are employed for extending around the other corner of the twoby-four I2 at the doorway opening.
All parts of the members 20' and 30 are similar and bear similar, but prime numerals. Similar plaster boards 40 and plaster 54' are also disposed on the opposite sides of the twoby-four studdings II] and I2.
The section 24 is preferably longer than the section 24 and extends a greater distance across that face of the two-by-four I2 which faces the doorway opening.
It is sometimes desirable that the two elongated corner members and 20 be attached separately to the two-by-four I2. In such cases, it is desirable that the sides 24 and 24' together stretch less than completely across the surface 10. This is particularly useful in instances where the studdings I2 are of varying width in cross-section.
The casing assembl further includes an elongated door stop member 80. The door stop member 80 is provided with a longitudinal section or flange 82 which is disposed in use transversely to the sections 24 and 24 of the corner member.
The transverse section 82 of the stop member 30 is for disposal opposite the side of and adjacent a door 90 in use, as best shown in Figure 1. The longitudinal edges of the section 82 of the stop member 80 are disposed in substantial parallelism and the stop member 80 is further provided with a face portion or section 96, which is connected to the outer longitudinal edge of the door opposing portion 82.
The face portion 96 is provided with another longitudinal edge or flange 98 which is disposed in vertical parallelism with that edge of the longitudinal stop section 82 which is disposed in use adjacent the corner member section .24.
The face portion 96 of the stop member 80 may be provided with concave or convex arcuate surfaces as desired for providing the stop member with an artistic design.
The door 90 is mounted upon hinges I00 having leaves I02 and I04 which latter are respectively secured by means of screws I06 to the door 90 and the two-by-four I2.
It is desirable that a notch IIU be provided in the corner member section 24 for receiving the leaf I04 of the hinge I 00.
It will be seen that all members and sections described may be extruded integrally in one piece for economical manufacture. Also 4 can greatly increase the speed of building construction.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a door casing constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification including variations in the shape and size of the parts without departing from the principles and spirit thereof, and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limit- 7 ing myself to the precise arrangement-and forall members are hollow and may be formed of material as thin as is consistent with the strength required.
It will be seen also that each corner member and its moulding member may be integral to form two separate units, the stop member being employed as a separate unit to be secured on the job to the corner members 20 and 20 to cover the gap between the ends of the sections 24 and 24'. Also, if desired, the moulding members 30 and 30' may themselves be separate pieces.
This invention has provided an economical casing assembly for attachment to a doorway opening which will save manufacturing steps and installation steps now conventionally used, which will facilitate the manufacture of a product which will not require painting and which mation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice, except as claimed.
I claim:
A sheet metal door frame comprising a pair of L-shape corner sections adapted to be positioned over the opposite corners of studding with end plates positioned to lie against the wide side face of the studding and inner side plates having tapering side surfaces extended at right angles from the edges of the end plates and adapted to be positioned against the ends of the studding whereby the studding nests in the said corner sections, the said side plates tapering from the points of intersection thereof with the said end plates to provide thin extended edges for insertion under base material of walls carried by the studding, said side plates having outwardly extended flanges positioned perpendicular to the surfaces of the side plates and spaced from the intersections of the side plates with the end plates, arcuate outwardly disposed webs extended from the outer edges of the flanges to points spaced inwardly from the end plates, outer side plate sections extended from the edges of the arcuate Webs inwardly from the end plates and positioned parallel to the said inner side plates, said outer side plate sections having inwardly extended flanges on the edges thereof and said flanges spaced from and positioned in planes perpendicular to the said inner side plates, the thin extended edges of the said inner side plates extended beyond the flanges of the outer side plate sections providing supporting means for the wall surface carried by the studding and the said flanges of the outer side plate sections providing stops for the outer finishing plaster layer of the wall, the outer surface of which being flush with the outer surface of the said outer side plate sec tions, and stops, substantially channel-shape in cross section, covering the extended edges of the end plates of the said corner sections of the frame.
