This invention relates to heavy duty luggage or carriers, of the type primarily designed for use by sportsmen, the important object of the invention being to provide luggage or a carrier, includingan exceptionally strong body portion having drawers in which sportsmens accessories, such as fishing lines, fishing tackle, etc., and shooting equipment, such as firearm attachments, shells, or the like, may be conveniently packed and carried therein.

The invention also provides means whereby the weight of the carrier will be suspended by flexible members providing a connection between the ends of the carrier or body portion and the handles of the carrier, thereby confining the strain of the weight of the carrier to a particular point wherein the carrier and its contents will be properly balanced, facilitating carrying, and the covering which forms a part of the carrier will be relieved of the strain usually directed thereto with luggage of known construction.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of heavy duty luggage, constructed in accordance with the invention, the flap of the covering being shown as raised for access to the drawers of the carrier.

Fig. 2 is a fragmental view illustrating the frame of the carrier at the opening of the carrier.

Fig. 3 is a detail view illustrating the handle plates to which the flexible supporting members are connected.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the carrier comprises a box-like body portion indicated generally by the reference character 5, which has an open top that is covered by a flexible covering encasing the box-like body portion, to be hereinafter more fully described.

body portion adjacent to the corners thereof, are arms 9, which are formed with openings to which ends ll] of flexible members I I are connected, the intermediate portions of the flexible members I l passing through tubular members 12 formed on the inner ends of handle plates I3. These handle plates [3 are provided with openings l4 through which rivets I5 are extendedfor connecting the handle plates l3 to pivoted frame sections 16. These handle plates l3 are also provided with handle rings I! to which handles l8 are connected.

It will also be seen that due to this construc tion, the weight of the carrier, and its contents, will be supported directly from the corners of the body portion by the handles, which are connected with the flexible members I I that are secured at the corners of the body portion.

A pair of U-shaped frames [6 are pivoted to the upstanding arms I9 that are disposed intermediate the sides of the body portion 5 and extend to points above the arms 9.

The entire structure is enclosed within a flexible covering indicated by the reference character 20, and shaped to conform to the shape of the body portion, and provided with upper inclined portions 2| that are connected to the pivoted frame member in any suitable manner.

The space above the upper drawer l of the carrier is provided with a bottom 22 so that when the carrier is opened at the top, a compartment is provided, into which various articles may be placed for convenience. In the construction of the pivoted frame member, it is contemplated that any well known slide fastener will be used to either open or close the upper compartment.

As shown by Fig. 1, the flexible covering is so constructed and arranged that a flap 23 is provided, Which flap may be moved to a position to engage the outer surfaces of the drawers, thus protecting the drawers and contents against the elements. Snap fasteners 24 are provided along the edge of the flap 23, whereby the flap may be secured in a closed position.

From the foregoing it is believed that the construction of my heavy duty luggage will be clearly obvious and that further description of the device is unnecessary for a complete understanding of the invention.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:

1. Luggag comprising a box-like body, a pair.

of closure frames pivotally connected to the body, drawers slidably mounted within the body at one side thereof, handle plates secured to the frame members intermediate their ends, flexible members connecting the handle plates to the body, handles on the handle plates, a flexible covering fitted around the body and connected to the pivoted frame members, and a flap forming a part of the flexible covering and overlying the outer sides of the drawers so as to protect the drawers against the elements, and means for normally holding the frame members together ,toclose the lu e.

2. Luggage comprising a box-like body having an open top, upstanding arms disposed intermediate the side edges of the body and rising above the open top of the body, frame members pivotally connected at their ends to said ,upstanding arms, handle plates secured to the frame members intermediate the ends ,of .the frame members, flexible members connected to the corners of the body and connected to the handle plates, so as to distribute part of the weight of the body to said handle plates, handles secured to the handle plates, and aflexible covering fitted around the body and enclosing the flexible members and open top of the bocly, said covering being secured to said frame members.

Luggage comprising 'a box-like body, vertical arms extending upwardly from the ends of the body, frame members pivotally connected to each other and pivotally connected to said arms, handle plates secured to and extending laterally from, the frame members at points intermediate the ends of the frame members, flexible members connected to the body at the corners thereof, said flexible members being also connected to the handle plates so as to distribute part of the weight of the luggage to said handle lates 1. m Se 12. i1 i i nd P12 jacent to the outer edges thereof, a flexible covering fitted around the body extending upwardly above the body, said flexible covering being connected to the frame members, and means for normallyjholding the frame members together to close the luggage.
