  • An improved mold for making the concrete base of a garbage can holder comprising a base plate, a pair of complemental mold sections each having a substantially semi-circular cut away portion to provide a substantially circular opening therebetween, a pair of supporting bars attached to each of said complemental mold sections and supported by said base plate, each of said bars having portions extending beyond said complemental mold sections, a substantially cylindrical mold member having an outside diameter less than that of the openin provided by said complemental mold sections and mounted on said base plate within said opening in spaced relation to the walls of said opening, a secondsubstantially cylindrical mold member mounted upon said first cylindrical mold member and having an outside diameter less than that of said first cylindrical mold member, and a side frame comprising a pair of pieces permanently secured together and a second pair of pieces permanently secured together, said pieces having cooperating interlocking notches and slots for detachably holding the pairs of pieces together, said pieces when in assembled relation being supported by the extended portions of said supporting bars and engaging said complemental mold sections for holding said mold sections in operative position.

The present invention relates to improvements in concrete molds and has for an object to provide animproved mold for molding concrete bases of garbage can holders of such form andconstruction as to prevent the garbage cans from being overturned as by dogs "or other animals.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved concrete, mold for this or other purposes which comprises few parts, is cheap to manufacture and simple to operate so that the manufacturingcost of .the concrete block will be low.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more fully described andmore particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, in which the same parts are denoted by the same reference numerals through out the several views,

Referring more particularly to the drawings,
and 2| indicate a pair of parallel spaced apart rails which are adapted to rest upon a work bench or the like. These rails support a base plate 22 which is oblong in shape and has at each end a narrow portion forming ears 23 and 24. Inwardly of the ears 23 and 24 the base plate 22 has recesses 25 and 26, respectively. A cylindrical mold member 21 is supported by the intermediate portion of the base plate 22 and a second cylindrical mold member 28 having a smaller external circumference than that of the mold member 2! is supported by the mold member 21. Both of these molds 21 and 28 can be secured to the base plate 22 by nails or screws.
A pair of complemental top surface mold sections 29 and 30 are supported by the base plate 22. Each of these mold sections 29 and 30 is oblong in shape and has a semicircular opening 3| which, when the sections 25 and 3ll are assembled, form a circular opening of largerdiameter than'the outside diameter of the mold member 21 and from which the walls orthe openings 3l' are spaced. Each of the sections 29 and 30 are attached to a pair of supporting bars 32 which are received by the recesses Hand 26 of the base plate 22 for supporting these sections. A hole 33 is formed in each of the sections 29 and 30 for the reception of pins 34-whichcan be made of wood or metal. When the sections 25 and 35 and are assembled in operative position their perimeter will be substantially square shaped.
The sections 29 and 30 are held in operative relation by a side frame which comprises pieces 35-, 36,51 and 35. The pieces 31 and 38 are secured to one another by screws 39 or the like'and the pieces 35 and 58 are similarly screwed together. Piece 36 has a notch 46 which opens through its upper edge adjacent the end thereof opposite to its end which is secured to piece 35. Piece 3! has a slot 41 which opens through its lower edge adjacent the end remote from that which is secured to piece38. The slot 4| on the inner surface of the piece 31 extends the entire width of the piece 37 and onthe .outer surface the slot terminates at point 42 which is spaced downwardly from the upper edge of the pie'ce3'1. The piece 38 has a notch 43 similar to the notch 4010f the piece 36- and the piece 35has a slot 44 which is similar to the slot 4! of the piece 31.
A top plate 45 is supported by the upper edges of the pieces 35 to 38 and cylindrical mold member 28.- For the purpose of holding the top plate 45 in position a pair of hooks 4B and 41 are pro vided. The ear 23 of the base plate 22.has a socket 48 which receives the lower end of the hook 46. A pivot pin 49 is supported by the car 23 and passes through the lower end of the hook 46 so that the hook can be swung into and out of engagement with the top plate 45. The ear 24 of the base plate 22 has a socket 50 for the reception of the lower end of the hook 4i and a pivot pin 5! is carried by the ear and passes through the lower end of the hook 41.
In the use of the mold the base plate is supported by the rails 20 and 2| so that the hand room is provided by the operator of the mold. The base plate 22 can be secured to the rails 20 and 2| by nails H or the like. The cylindrical mold members 21 and 28 are then placed upon the base plate 22 and can be secured thereto by nails 3 or the like 12. The sections 29 and 39 are then assembled around the cylindrical mold members 2'1 and 28 with the pins 34 positioned in the holes 33 of the sections 29 and 30. The pieces 35 and 36 are then connected to the pieces 31 and 38 by means of the notch 40 and the slot 4i and the notch 43 and the slot 44. As shown in Figure 6, the bars 32 extend beyond the sections 29 and 39 so that the pieces 35 to 39 will rest upon the supporting bars 32 and will embrace the sections 29 and to hold them in their proper operative position. The plastic concrete is then poured into the mold and the top plate 45 is placed upon the side frame wall pieces to 38. The hooks 46 and 41 are then swung into engagement with the top plate 45 as shown in Figure 1.
When the cement is sufficiently hardened the mold is disassembled and a concrete block 52, as shown in Figure 8, is formed. This block 52 has an interior annular shoulder 53 and bolt holes 54.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specificall described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. An improved mold for making the concrete base of a garbage can holder comprising a base plate, a pair of complemental mold sections supported by said base plate and each having a cut away portion to provide a substantially circular opening therebetween, a substantially cylindrical mold member having an outside diameter less than that of the opening provided by said pair of complemental mold sections and mounted on said base plate within said opening in spaced relation to the walls of said opening, a second substantially cylindrical mold member mounted upon said first cylindrical mold member and having an outside diameter less than that of said first cylindrical mold member, and a side frame supported by said base plate in engagement with said complemental mold sections for holding said sections in operative position.
2." An improved mold as claimed in claim 1 characterized by the fact that a pin is mounted on each of said pair of complemental mold sections.
3. An improved mold for making the concrete base of a garbage can holder comprising a base plate, a pair of complemental mold sections supported by said base plate and each having a cut away portion to provide a substantially circular opening'therebetween, a substantially cylindrical mold member having an outside diameter less than that of the opening provided by said pair of complemental mold sections and mounted on said base plate within said opening in spaced relation 'plate on said side frame, each hook having its lower end portion received by its socket and its upper end portion engaging said top plate, and a pivot pin mounted on said base plate and extending through each socket and the lower end portion of each hook.

An improved mold for making the concrete base of a garbage can holder comprising a base plate, a pair of complemental mold sections each having a substantially semi-circular cut away portion to provide a substantially circular opening therebetween, a pair of supporting bars attached to each of said complemental mold sections and supported by said base plate, each of said bars having portions extending beyond said complemental mold sections, a substantially cylindrical mold member having an outside diameter less than that of the openin provided by said complemental mold sections and mounted on said base plate within said opening in spaced relation to the walls of said opening, a secondsubstantially cylindrical mold member mounted upon said first cylindrical mold member and having an outside diameter less than that of said first cylindrical mold member, and a side frame comprising a pair of pieces permanently secured together and a second pair of pieces permanently secured together, said pieces having cooperating interlocking notches and slots for detachably holding the pairs of pieces together, said pieces when in assembled relation being supported by the extended portions of said supporting bars and engaging said complemental mold sections for holding said mold sections in operative position.
