c. w. KRAMER 2,549,488 TOOTH PASTE AND SHAVE CREAM DISPENSER WITH INTERCONNECTED CONTROL CAP April 17, 1951 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Filed Oct. 20, 1947 R 0 w T 7 m u f I, V I I 7 w 5 n o o o o o o o O o l O W a I M, o a 4 //I\\\ l q f 3 o no 3 no 0v an 0v mo 0y A0 0v mo 0v Czaz l s Wfiameg ATTU RN EYE Patented Apr. 17, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TOOTH PASTE AND SHAVE CREAM DIS- PENSER WITH INTERCONNECTED CON- TROL CAP 2 Claims.
This invention relates to toothpaste and shave cream dispensers.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a .dispenser adapted to receive the toothpaste or shave cream tube and to roll the same to cause the contents to be delivered from its open end, wherein there is provided a control cap to limit the quantity of the contents which is 'dispensed and to cut ed a measured amount of the contents for disposal on a brush, and wherein the contents at the outlet will not be given an opportunity to dry or cake thereat'.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a shave cream or toothpaste tube dispenser having a control outlet, which is of simple "construction, easy to operate, inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation.
For a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which: a
Fig. 1 is a vertical cross-sectional view taken through the dispenser casing with the cover raised;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view, in elevation, taken through the dispenser and as viewed generally on line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view, in elevation, taken generally on line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken generally on line 44 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary sectional view taken generally on line 66 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the figures, It! represents a casing part adapted to receive a tube l filled with a paste to be dispensed from its opening l2. Extending between the top and bottom end of the casing is a plate i3 against which the tube H is pressed and upon which it is flattened by a roller l4. The face of the "plate l3 against which the tube II is pressed is provided with a coating of roughened material 13. This coating may be in sheet form or it may be powdered emery or the like that is adhesively secured to the plate. This coating provides a rough surface which grips the tube H and prevents the tube from sliding down the plate and becoming fouled during the dispensing. The roller [4 is made of semi-hard rubber which material will compensate for various thicknesses encountered in the tube while the contents thereof are being pressed therefrom. The roller thus allows the tube to be pressed evenly to prevent breaking of the tube.
The roller I4 is carried on a U-shaped slide I5 which is formed of strip material and has its ends extended about the side edges of plate [3 as indicated at [6, Fig. 5. As the roller [4 is moved downwardly over the tube, its contents will be forced through its open end I2.
'The slide 15 has projections I! extending from the top and bottom edges to which chains l8 are.
' thereto from the outer end of which is a knurled knob'25 adapted to' be turned. On the shaft 22 is a collar 26. This collar 26 is connected to the rod 24 by a pin 21 extending through elongated slots 28 in the hollow shaft 22 and through the rod. The rod 24 is urged outwardly'from the shaft 22 by an internal spring 29. The rod, however, is retained against removal from the shaft 22 by the engagement of pin 27 with the end of the slot 28.
When the knob 25 is turned, the shafts and their sprockets l9 are turned and the slide l5 will be drawn downwardly so that the roller I4 will flatten thetube ll, Fig. 2. In order to prevent the turning of the knob in a direction to release the roller I4 from the tube 1 l a pawl 3! and a ratchet wheel 32 are provided, the ratchet wheel is secured to the shaft 22.
On the casing part I0 is a U-shaped bracket 33 for supporting by means of its trunnion pins 34 a spout 35 having a threaded opening 36 for receiving the threaded opening end l2 of the tube.' Depending from the spout is a soft open ended tube or conduit 31 which extends downwardly to a location through the bottom end of the casing part I 0.
Extending from the casing part and exteriorly of the conduit 31 is a rigid half circular section member 38 flattened at its lower end as indicated at 39 to provide a flattened face against which the open end of the conduit 37 will be pressed to close the same and control the outlet flow of the paste.
Cooperating with the member 38 and similarly shaped except for an extension 4|, is a member 42 which 'is hinged to the bottom end of the casing as indicated at 43. Between the extensions 4| and the casing part In is a tension spring 44 which will urge and force the member 42 upon the open end of the soft conduit 31 to compress the open end thereof between the flattened end of the member 42 and the flattened end of the member 38. The collar 26 abuts the extensions 4| and when the knob 25 and rod 24 are moved inwardly, as when the knob 25 is to be turned to dispense some of the paste, the member 42 will be hinged outwardly from its compressing engagement with the soft conduit 3'! and permit the outward flow of the paste onto a brush.
A cover 45 is extended over the casing part Hi. This cover is hinged as indicated at 46 and can be latched to the part ID by a latch member 41.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A paste tube dispenser comprising a casing part, a roller device adapted to engage the tube to flatten the same and cause paste to be extruded from the tube, a spout connected to the casing and adapted to receive the opening end of the tube, said spout having a soft open ended conduit depending therefrom and through which the paste is conducted and a control device having flattened ends thereon operable upon the open end of the soft conduit to control the outflow of paste and to shut off the same whereby to prevent the paste from being exposed to the air or drying when not being dispensed, a shaft having a knob connected with the shaft to turn the same, said knob being axially adjustable with respect to the shaft, means responsive to the axial movement of the knob for operating the control device for the soft conduit tube While the knob is bein turned to operate the roller'device.
'2. A paste tube dispenser comprising a casing part, a roller device adapted to engage the tube to flatten the same and cause paste to be extruded from the tube, a spout connected to the casing and adapted to receive the opening end of the tube, said spout having a soft open ended conduit depending therefrom and through which the paste is conducted and a control device having flattened ends thereon operable upon the open end of the soft conduit to control the outflow of paste and to shut off the same whereby to prevent the paste from being exposed to the air or drying when not being dispensed, said control device for the soft conduit comprising a rigid semi-circular member depending from the casing part and having a portion against which the open end of the soft end of the conduit may be forced, a second rigid semi-circular member hinged to the casing and having a portion for engaging the open end of the soft conduit to compress the same against the portion of the first member, said roller device including a shaft adapted to be rotated, a rod extending into the shaft and having a turn knob at its outer end, means for connecting the rod to the shaft to r0- tate the shaft to permit axial adjustment therein, a collar surrounding the shaft and operable by the rod to be moved axially along the shaft, and said hinged member of the conduit control device engaging with the roller to be operated by the same.
