PETROLEUM COOKING STOVE.
No. 254,380. Patented Feb. 28,1882.

fix I Mm BY I @229 ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GHRISTOPH RIESSNER, OF New YORK, n. Y.
PETROLEUM COOKING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,380, dated February 28, 1882,
Application filed November 14, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GHRISTOPH RIEssNEE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Petroleum Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved petroleum cooking stove which is made in two parts, in such a manner that they can be packed for shipment into a small space, which is of special advantagein the shipment of such stoves to great distances.
The invention consists in making the cylindrical top part detachable from the base or lamp part, and of larger diameter than the base part, so that the latter may be inserted in inverted position into the top part. For use the top part is supported on recessed posts of the base part.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical central section, taken on the plane of line :20 m, Fig. 2, of my improved petroleum cooking stove, shown packed and ready for shipment. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the stove as set up and ready for use.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts;
Referring to the drawings, A represents the cylindrical top part of my improved petroleum cookingstove, and B the base or lamp part of the same. The base part B is provided with ornamental feet I) and with wick-tubes G, which pass through slots a in the bottom of the cylindrical top part, A, into the interior cones, D,
of the same. The top part, A, isprovided with side slots, at, for the admission of air to the cones, and with an interior cylinder of wiregauze, as shown clearly in Fig. 1. The cylindrical top part, A, is made of larger diameter than the base part B, and supported by its contracted bottom A on the recessed ends eof vertical posts E of the base part B. The larger diameter of the top part, A, admits the insertion of the base part in inverted position for the convenient packing of the oil-stove, in which case the wick-tubes 0 pass through the cones D and the slots a of the bottom A of the (No model.)
top part, A, the posts E supporting the base part on the horizontal partition at the foot of shipment, it taking up considerably less space than heretofore, while all the main parts are 5 at the interior of the top part, so as to be fully protected against injury. In this manner the stove may be shipped to any distance at considerably less cost than at present. It may also be more conveniently stored away during the winter season, and easily cleaned by simply removing the top part from the base part.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An oil-stove consisting of a detachable upper section having a contracted bottom, and provided with an interior wire-gauze cylinder, exterior air-openings, tube-slots in the bottom and cones, in combination with a detachable base-section provided with wick-tubesandsnp- 7o portingrecessed posts, thediamcterof the said base-section being small enough to be inserted in an inverted position into the top of the upper section, substantially as described.
2. An oil cooking-stove composed of two deing large enough to receive the top of the lower section in inverted position, whereby space is saved in storage and transportation, the posts E of the lower section resting upon the plate of the upper section above the wire-gauze, the
wick-tubes G extending down through the cones, but not below the tube-slots, when inserted in the upper section, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in pres- 9o ence of subscribing tn 0 witnesses.
OHRISTOPH RIESSNER.
