FASTENING MEMBER FOR BUILDING MOLDING FORMS Filed Feb. 26, 1947 I/ /,&

A TTO RNE Y5 Patented Feb. 27, 1951 FASTENING 'MEIVIBER FOR BUILDING I MOLDING FORMS Harry Lindemann, Teaneck, N. J.
Application February 26, 1947. Serial No. 731,008
2 Claims.
This invention relates to an improved fastening member for detachably securing together adjacent channel-shaped, knock-down molding forms, such as are used in molding building units of concrete or other materials.
When such molding forms are assembled, a series of sectional forms is built up, each individual molding form having a main longitudinal wall and a pair of transverse walls. The sectional molding forms are so situated that the main longitudinal walls form an extended, continuous, planar surface, the transverse walls of adjacent molding forms being in abutment with each other. It is therefore desirable to provide fastening means for detachably securing together said assembled, channel-shaped molding forms having contiguous, abutting transverse walls.
Accordingly my invention provides fastening members for detachably securing together sec-' tional, channel-shaped molding forms, said fastening members being designed and constructed in such a manner as to allow easy and rapid assembly of said sectional molding forms and to facilitate disassembly of said molds after they have served their temporary purpose.
A further object of the invention is the provision of fastening members of the character indicated which may be produced in a minimum number of fabricating operations at low cost and which will be durable and eificient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of fastening members of the character indicated which eliminate the necessity for using interlocking threaded parts, thereby greatly conserving time and expense in setting up the sectional molding forms to which said fastening members are applied. a
The foregoing objects as well as additional objects and advantages will be readily apparent in the course of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention and wherein:
Fig. 1 is a sectional view illustrating the manner in which the fastenin members are used to detachably secure a series of channel-shaped sectional molding forms;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view showing a fastening member in position within the registering holes of the abutting, transverse walls of adjacent molding forms;
Fig. 3 is a view taken along line 33 of Fig. 2.
The channel-shaped sectional molding forms which are to be assembled are designated in the drawings by the numeral l and comprise a main longitudinal wall In and a pair of transverse walls 2. When the sectional molding forms I are set up, adjacent transverse walls 2 are in abutting relationship and horizontal openings 4 within said transverse walls are in registration, as best illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3.
The fastening members for detachably securing together adjacent molding forms I comprise a base 5 and a wedge member 3. Base 5 is T- shaped and preferably made from a single, unitary band of metal of suitable thickness shaped to form an elongated transverse head portion 9 and a longitudinal loop portion 6 integral therewith and projecting centrally therefrom. Ends 1 and 8 of head portion 9 may be disposed in overlapping relationship, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2. A wedge member 3 is removably insertable within loop portion 6 of base 5.
In actual use the projecting central loop portion 6 of each fastening member is passed through the registering openings 4 of a pair of adjacent, abuttin transverse walls 2 of adjacent channel-shaped molding forms I. The wedge member 3 is then inserted within loop portion 6 and serves to tightly secure said adjacent pair of molding forms against each other, the inner surface of head portion 9 bearing against the transverse wall of one of said molding forms and the inner edge of wedge member 3 bearing against the transverse wall of the adjacent molding form. After the molding forms have served their temporary purpose they may be simply and easily disassembled by driving wedge members 3 out of loop portions 6 in bases 5.
The particular configuration of head portion 9 may vary from that shown in the preferred embodiment of my fastening member described above and illustrated in the drawing. For example, overlapping ends 1 and 8 may be curved instead of linear (see Fig. 2).
Base 5 of my fastening member may be readily formed from a single band of material with relatively few' bending operations.
Since certain additional modifications may be made in the fastening member of my invention without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the foregoing description and shown in the accompanying drawing be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. A device for detachably securing together abutting walls, said walls having respective openings which communicate with each other, said device comprising a base member and a wedge member, said base member being substantially T-shaped and being formed from a single piece of metal, said base member comprising a transverse head portion and a central longitudinal 100p portion, said head portion comprising opposed lower transverse arms which are respectively integral at their inner ends with said loop portion, longitudinal legs which are respectively integral at their lower ends with the outer ends of said head portion lower arms, and upper transverse arms which are respectively integral with the respective upper ends of said head portion legs, said upper arms overlapping each other in abutting relation, said loop portion being removably insertable within said communicating openings, whereby said head portion abuts one of said Walls, said wedge member being removably insertable within said loop portion in abutment with the other of said walls, whereby said walls are detachably held together.
2. A device for detachably securing together abutting walls, said walls having respective openings which communicate with each other, said device comprising a base member and a wedge member, said base member being substantially T-shaped and being formed from a single, substantially rig-id piece of metal, said base member comprising an elongated transverse head portion and a central longitudinal loop portion, said longitudinal loop portion comprising a pair-of longitudinal legs which are integral at their lower ends with a transverse connecting arm, said head portion comprising a pair of opposed lower transverse arms which are respectively integral at their inner ends with the respective upper ends of said loop portion legs, longitudinal legs which are respectively integral at their lower ends with the outer ends of said head portion lower arms, and upper transverse arms which are respectively integral with the respective upper ends of said head portion legs, said upper arms being of approximately the same length and overlapping each other in abutting relation with the free end of each said upper arm being positioned near the leg to which the other said upper arm is connected, said loop portion being removably insertable within said communicating openings, whereby said head portion abuts one of said walls, said wedge member being removably insertable Within said loop portion in abutment with the other of said walls, whereby said walls are detachably held together.
