'JTM Afro/MEV cooling effect shall be perceptible in the living zone without having to pass through the whole locality and to cool it down, it is suitable to arrange the supply ducts for the air in the Way that is illustrated in Figure 3, which represents a vertical section of part of a treated room. The radiator 21 is placed under the window and the Working desk 28 is placed in front of it. The air duct 29 has its supply opening 30 .directed in such a way that the air jet reaches the person sitting before the desk, in the breathing zone. During the time cool air is being introduced into the room, the radiators 21 continue to supply heat to the room at about the normal rate so as to maintain the room at about the normal temperature. As the thermostats 24, 25l are in the air duct rather than in the room, they do not respond to the room temperature, but merely control or regulate the temperature of the air admitted to the room. In fact where the radiators 21 are controlled by a room thermostat, they may even tend to increase the heat input of the room to compensate for the cool air introduced.
The invention is not limited to the examples above, but can be modified without abandoning its principle. Thus the supply of the air can be made directly into the locality without distribution by ducts. An air conditioning unit can be connected to two different systems of ducts, one of which works in the normal way with constant temperature, whereas the other system realizes the intermittent cooling periods having its supplementary cooler which is started and stopped in the same way as described above for Figure 3.
Having now described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is:
1. An apparatus for air conditioning a room providing a plurality of stations therein comprising: an air supply means including a duct having a plurality of openings communicating with said stations to provide local temperature effects therein; heating means and cooling means in the air supply means; two thermostatic control means for the heating and cooling means in the air supply means for maintaining predetermined different temperatures of the air passed through the duct to said openings; a return duct connecting said room with the air supply means; a thermostatically controlled damper controlling admission of return air and fresh air to said supply means; and a time clock for alternately selectively rendering effective said heating and cooling means for intermittently forcing cool air for periods of short duration, and heated air at a normal rate, through said openings to said stations.
2. An apparatus for air conditioning a room providing a plurality of stations therein comprising: an air supply means including a duct having a plurality of openings communicating with said stations to provide local temperature eifects therein; heating means and cooling means in the air supplymeans; two thermostatic control means for the heating and cooling means in the air supply means for maintaining predetermined diiferent temperatures of the air passed through the duct to said openings; and a time clock for alternately selectively rendering effective said heating and cooling means for intermittently forcing cool air for periods of short duration, and heated air at a normal rate, through said openings to said stations.
