This invention relates to form holders, and particularly a holder which is flexible in construction to permit storage in pockets of irregular shapes.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a form holder capable of holding a stack of forms and made of resilient material to allow for bending or flexing the holder for insertion into a compartment being curved in shape.
A specificobject of the invention is to provide a holder for forms on which data is to be written for permanent records, having a storage compartment, andasliding lidwhich can be moved undera form to be written on to provide a writing table.
Another object of the invention is to provide a sliding lid which is biased away .from the storage compartment when the lid is moved to a 'position to expose the topsheet of astack of forms to automatically provide easy access to said forms, together with a means to latch the biased iidin closed position when the lid is closed.
Another specific object of the invention is to provide a metal form holder which is comparatively thin in its overall dimensions, and in which the lid and the back can be flexed simultaneously into acurved position.
With these and incidental objectsin view, the inventionincludes. certain novel features of construction-and combinations of parts, a preferred form or embodiment of which is hereinafter describedwith reference to the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of this specification.

General description The invention comprises a novel holder for forms on which records are to be entered and curved section of the wall of the-aircraft. The .holder. illustrated herein is constructed of resilienttmetal, and includesv a supporting member forthe supply. of forms,..which support is formed upwardly and rearwardly to form a re cess for the forward end of the stock of forms. A biased member is securedv to the support and impinges the stack of record forms within the rec'essformed'i on the support. A sliding cover is mounted on the support by'clips, and the cover is formed .to coverthe bottom of the holder support andJto extendoverithe top of the forms. The top cover. is. biased upwardly .but is normally held. in restrained. position by engaging the said recess above the forms in the holder. When the coveris slid rearwardly to exposethe top form, said-topform. is rendered easily accessible wheirthe top cover springs upwardly. After the .cover. is in open position, the pilot can pull the rear end .of the top form forwardly out of the compartment, after which .the .coveris position'ed. beneaththe removed form to provide a writing table when entriesv are. made on the form.
The rear. endof the =.cover is. formed in asemicircle, which provides a .compartmentfor storing a pen, a pencil, a stylus, etc., for making entries on the form. The ends of the opening for the said compartment are closed by angle pieces to prevent the .writinginstrument .from falling out when the cover is closed, such angle pieces being secured .onthe support for. the .forms. Since the cover. ismade of aflat. sheet of metal, the writing instrument .is accessible as .soonas the cover is moved rearwardly.
Suitable stops are. provided .to prevent accidentalcomplete withdrawalof the cover fromthe support.
Detailed description The holder includes a main support H! made of fiat metal and formed upwardly at'right angles to form a forward wall ll, andrearwardly from the forward wall"l i to'for'm a'ledg'e I2. The ledge 12 is bent under itself and forwardly and spaced slightly from "the bottom side of the ledge l2,'such space' providingan opening to receive an angle-piece H3 at each side of'the ledge, to protect and hold the forward sides of a sta ck'of forms M from shifting sidewise, as viewe df'in Fig. l. -The-rear end of the support It is formed .the plane of the bar l8.
at right angles to form a rear wall l5, and said wall can be reinforced by bending the wall I5 back on itself to form a double thickness and at the same time form a rounded edge for the cover (described later) to slide upon.
The support I B has secured to its inner wall, and near its forward end, a spring plate I6, biased away from the support to engage the under side of the forward end of the stack of forms in such a manner as to impinge the stack of forms against the under side of the ledge l2, to removably hold the stack of forms M within the holder. The plate 16 can be secured by any desired means, such as, for example, spot welds I1.
Secured to the support iii, at its rear end, is a bar I8, which bar is formed around each side of the support 50 to form flanges [9 extending a short distance beneath the support. The flanges 19 are spaced from the bottom of the support Iii a distance sufficient to provide a runway for a sliding cover 28. The forward end of the sliding cover has secured thereto a bar 2i, having short flanges 22 formed thereon, which flange lie in The bar 2| and its flanges 22 form a means to slidingly support the cover 26 on the support iii. Since the flanges 22 lie in the same plane as the bar N3, the bar [8 forms a stop for the cover 20 when the flanges 22 strike the bar :8.
The cover 20 extends rearwardly, where it is formed in the shape of a semi-circular loop, and then forwardly to provide a lid 25. The lid 25 is biased away from the stack of forms but is in position between the ledge l2 and the top of the stack of forms when the lid is in closed position. When the lid 25 is slid rearwardly, its forward end springs into the position shown in chain lines (Fig. 2) to provide easy access to the top form of the stack [4.
A pocket to store a writing instrument such as a pencil, a pen, or a stylus is formed in the rear end of the holder by securing an angle piece 26 to the wall H5. The free end of each angle piece 26 is shaped to conform to the inner periphery of the loop formed on the cover 20. A pencil 2'? is shown in the compartment in Fig. 3, which illustrates the pocket with the cover 26 and the lid 25 in closed position. Sliding movement of the cover 29 and the lid 25 toward the chainline position provides access to the pencil, which is then free to roll out with the cover and can be slid out of the sides thereof.
The support ID, the cover 20, and the lid 25 are formed of flat pieces of resilient metal, the sides of which have no flanges or formations thereon, thus providing for a resilient structure which permits the holder to be flexed to fit into curved pockets of various degrees of curvature.
While the form of the device shown and described herein is admirably adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form. or embodiment disclosed herein, for it is susceptible of embodiment in various other forms.
What is claimed is:
1. In a device of the class described, a main supporting member for supporting a stack of sheets of record material, one end of said main supporting member extending upwardly and rearwardly to form a recess on one end of said support to receive one end of the stack of sheets of record material, a member biased to impinge one end of said stack of sheets of record material within the recess, a cover comprising a section adjacent the under side of said main supporting member and formed upwardly around one end of the main supporting member to provide a section to cover the top of the stack of sheets of record material, and means to slidably connect the firstnamed section of the cover to the support whereby the cover can be moved on the support to render the top sheet of the stack of record material accessible.
2. In a device of the class described, a main supporting member for supporting a stack of sheets of record material, one end of said main supporting member extending upwardly and rearwardly toform a recess to receive one end of the stack of sheets of record material, a member biased to impinge, one end of aid stack of ma-- terial within the recess, a cover formed to en close the bottom, the top, and one end of the main supporting member and the stack of sheets: of record material thereon, and means to slidably connect the cover to the supporting member whereby the cover can be moved on the support-- ing member to render the top sheet of the stack. of sheet of record material accessible, the section of said cover enclosing the top of said stack;
of sheets of record material being biased away from the stack of sheets of record material to per-' mit easy access to the said top sheet.
3. In a device of the class described, a main: supporting member for supporting a stack of sheets of record material, one end of said main;
supporting member extending upwardly and rear-- wardly to form a recess to receive one end of the: stack of sheets of record material, a memberbiased to impinge one end of said stack of sheets: of material within the recess, a cover formed toenclose the bottom, the top, and one end of themain supporting member and the stack of sheets; of record material thereon, and means to slidably connect the cover to the main supportin mem-- ber whereby the cover can be moved on the main;

In a device of the class described, a main supporting member for supporting a stack of sheets of record material, one end of said main supporting member extending upwardly and rearwardly to form a recess to receive one end of the stack of sheets of record material, a member biased to impinge one end of said stack of material Within the recess, a cover comprising a section adjacent the under side of said main supporting member and formed upwardly around one end of the main supporting member to provide a section to cover the top of the stack of sheets of record material, means to slidably connect the cover to the main supporting member whereby the cover can be moved on the main supporting member to render the top sheet of the stack of record material accessible, and a channel member secured to the cover and having a sliding connection with said main supporting member to permit relative sliding movement between the main supporting member and the cover.

In a device of the class described, a main supporting member for supporting a stack of sheets of record material, one end of said main member whereby the cover can be moved on the support to render the top sheet of the stack of record material accessible, a channel member secured to the cover and having a sliding connection with said main supporting member to permit relative sliding movement between the main supporting member and the cover, and a second channel member secured to the main supporting member and having a sliding connection with the cover, said second channel actin as a stop to arrest movement of the cover when the first channel member engages the second channel member upon the covers being moved to its maximum open position.

In a device of the class described, a main supporting member for supporting a stack of sheets of record material, one end of said main supporting member extending upwardly and rearwardly to form a recess to receive one end of the stack of sheets of record material, a member biased to impinge one end of said stack of sheets of record material within the recess, a cover comprising a section adjacent the under side of said main supporting member and formed upwardly around one end of the main supporting member to provide a section to cover the top of the stack of sheets of record material said cover forming a loop around one end of the main supporting member and the stack of sheets of record material, means on the main supporting member c0- acting with said loop to provide a storage compartment near one end of the device, and means to slidably connect the cover to the main supportin member whereby the cover can be moved on the main supporting member to render the top sheet of the stack of record material and said compartment accessible.
7. In a device of the class described, a main supporting member for supporting a stack of sheets of record material, one end of said main supporting member extending upwardly and rearwardly to form a recess to receive one end of the stack of sheets of record material, a member biased to impinge one end of said stack of sheets of record material within the recess, a cover comprising a section adjacent the under side of said main supporting member and formed upwardly around one end of the main supporting member to provide a section to cover the top of the stack of sheets of record material, and means to slidably connect the cover to the main supporting member whereby the cover can be moved on the main supporting member to render the top sheet of the stack of sheets of record material accessible, said main supporting member and said cover being constructed of resilient material to permit bending the device to fit a curved compartment.
