The holder of my invention is especially adapted for the holding of elongated cylinders such as fire extinguisher cylinders, securely in partly exposed position, under tension, and, at the same time, to permit of the instantaneous removal of the cylinders therefrom when desired.

An embodiment of a structure employing my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings and described in detail in the ensuing specication. This embodiment is merely by way of eX- ample; my invention is not limited thereto but includes all other forms which would come within the scope of the appended claims. in the draw ings,

Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. l, showing `a fire extinguisher cylinder positioned in the holder of my invention.

As shown in the drawings, the holder of my invention comprises a member it of generally U-shaped cross-section, open at the upper end l I thereof and closed at the lower end, i2 thereof, said lower end l2 being rounded and being provided with a medial boss I3 on which the nozzle end of the cylinder 22 is supported and is thus sealed from the atmosphere. The holder It is provided with lugs ill and l5 at the upper and lower ends thereof, said lugs having apertures it and I6 for the reception of screws or like holding means S to fasten the holder to a wall or other support W. The cylinder is provided with spring means to maintain the cylinder under tension therein and centered on the boss i3. As shown in Fig. 1, said spring means comprises a spring member l l xed at one end to the holder by means of a rivet i8 or the like, the spring being preierably bowed, as at le to normally project into the holder. The lower end of the holder is provided with a medial rib 20 which is connected with the rear wall 24 of the holder and with the depending lug I5, and which thus serves to renforce the lower end of the holder.

The holder may be made of metal or plastic or of a combination of such materials or of any other desired or convenient material, the parts being so proportioned that the internal diameter D of the holder will be slightly larger than the external diameter of the cylinder 22 to be held therein.

As will be noted from Fig. 3, the cylinder 22 upon being positioned within the holder, ilattens the bowed portion i9 of spring il, thereby maintaining the cylinder tightly within the holder. The nozzle end 23 of the cylinder 22 rests on the medial boss I3 at the lower end of the holder so that the nozzle end of the cylinder is substantially sealed from the atmosphere, precluding the possibility of contamination of the nozzle end oi the cylinder and of the discharge aperture thereof.

It will be apparent from Fig. 3 that on inserting the cylinder 22 into the holder, the cylinder automatically aligns itself onto the medial boss i3 and is held tightly or under tension in the holder with the exposed end of the cylinder projecting above the open end H of the holder in position for rapid and effortless removal of the cylinder when so desired.

While I have described the holder Ei) as used for the reception of the i'lre extinguisher cylinder 22. it will be apparent from the foregoing description that the same may be used for the holding of other objects of similar kind in the same fashion.

I have shown in the drawings and described in the above specication, a convenient form oi 25 structure embodying my invention; it will be apparent from such disclosure that the invention is capable of many modifications without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, as setforth in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

A holder for a cylinder having a nozzle, said holder comprising a member ci generally U- shaped cross-sectional outline having a rounded, closed lower end and an open upper end, a medial boss in the lower end of said holder on whichv the nozzle of the cylinder may rest, and spring means secured to the holder and projecting thereinto to hold the cylinder positioned therein tightly on the boss.
