(Cl. 133-5) `'My invention relates to the handling and disposition of money on buses, street cars and the like, and`includes among its objects and advantages the lprovision of an improved moneychanger wherein novel means are incorporated for arranging coins of different denominations in an orderly manner and selectively removing the respective coins for change making purposes, in which the money-changer is in the nature of a unit which may be carried on the person, and in which novel'means are provided for protectively housing the unit when in the vehicle and locking the coin actuating keys against unauthorized tampering.

In the embodiment of the invention selected for illustration, the money-changer I0 comprises a' floor I2 having a cent tube I4, a 5-cent tube I6, a 10-cent tube I8, a 25-cent tube 2D and a 50- cent tube 22 mounted thereon. Thesey tubes are arranged in a. straight line, as when viewing Figure 3, and the tubes are arranged vertically Von the oor I2. All the tubes are provided with longitudinal slots 24 to indicate the supply -of coins therein.
In Figure 5, coin discharging openings 26` are provided `in the iloor I2. These openings are located in a straight line slightly to one side of the line of coins 28 when stacked in the respective tubes. At the lower ends of the tubes I4 through 2 2` are located coin pushers 30 for removing one coinl .at a time from their respective tubes. All thpushers 30 are identical, with the exception 2 Y of size, so that the description of one will apply to all. f
In Figure 8 the pusher 3! lies in a recess 32 inthe floor I2. The pusher includes a curved finger 34 having an insiderdiameter correspondv ing to the diameter of the coin for which it is: designed. The finger curves throughout anarc exceeding degrees, and the lowermost coin in the tube associated with the finger dropsV within the finger 34 and lies -on the bottom face 36 of the recess 32.v A coin supporting wing 3'8, is provided on the nger 34 to constitute a support for the coin stack above the lowermost coin when the pusher 311V ispivoted from its normal position of Figure S to a position concentrically. o f the coin discharging opening 26 to drop the coin through the opening.
The pusher 30 is pivotally connected at 43 with the floor I2 and includes a segmental gear 42 meshing with a segmental gear 44 pivotally connected at 46 with the floor I2. A bar or lever: 48 is pivotally mounted on a shaft 5i) and in. cludes a -nger 52 extending through an opening 54 in the segmental gear 44 so that rotary motion may be imparted to this gear through oscilt latory motion of the bar 48. A spring is coiled on the shaft 50 and has one end abutting the bar 48 and its other end engaging the floor I2 to yieldingly hold thebar in the position illustrated. Downward pivotal movement of the bar 4S rotates the segmental gear 44 `in a clockwise direction and the segmental gear 42 in a counterclockwise direction, as when viewing Figure 8, to bring the pusher 30 into coin discharging alignment.

Figure 3 illustrates the bars 48 as being provided w-ith buttons 58 appropriately marked at 60 to designate the denominations of the respective coins actuated thereby. The shafts 50 are supported in brackets 62 mounted on the floor i2.' Slots 64 are provided in the wail 66 of the unit I0 for accommodating the bars dil. Slots BS are are also provided in the wall tit in alignment with the slots 24 to expose the coin supply to view.'
The money-changer or unit Ill includes a wall section 'I0 and a wall section 'l2 hingedly con-z nected therewith at 1.4. The floor I2 is carried by the wall section 12. The tubes I4 through 22 each comprises a section 'i6 carried by the wall section 12 and. aseetion 'i8 carried by the. wall section 1U. A spring pressed latch te is piv-l oted on the Wall section 'l'II for detachably cornv necting the two sections in the manner or" Fig ure 4, but the section 'l2 may be pivoted downwardly to facilitate placement of coins in the sections 16 and then swinging the wall section 12 up to the position of Figure 4.
A case of protective housing 82 is provided for the money-changer I0. This housing is provided with horizontal channels 84 running into vertical channels 86 closed at their bottom ends. Pivots 88 are attached to the wall section '|2 and are receivable in the channels 84 and 86. Normally the pivots 88 lie at the bottom ends of the vertical lshanrielsG,,sindy the money-changer t is latched tol the-housing throughethe medium of bars 90. The two bars 90 are slidably mounted in a guide 92, see Figure 11, and are biased outwardly of the guide by springs 94. Lugslare attached to the housing 82 and are slottedat 98 4 lease of the latch bars 90, which are key coritrolled.
The money-changer |0 is provided with two loops |52 for connection with shoulder straps in cases where the money-changer is carried on the person. The housing 82 carries a money receiving tray |54 located underneath the coin discharging openings 26.
