This invention relates to abrasive strip holders such as used by pattern makers and other artisans engaged in the art of making wooden or other like objects susceptible to more or less hand polishing, fitting or the like treatment.

The principal object is to produce such a holder with the minimum of inexpensive simple parts as possible and one least subject to getting out of order during the manipulation or adjustment of same.

Other objects and advantages will appear during the further description of the invention.

Referring now to the accompanying drawing forming part of this application.

Fig. l is a side elevational view of the holder with an abrasion strip of sand paper or the like carried thereby, and

Fig. 2 is a broken top edge elevation of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33, Fig. 1.

The entire holder is made of but four individual separable pieces and united or separated by screw threaded action of but two of said pieces.

The integral body and handle piece is of wood, plastic or other suitable material, that portion I representing the body and 2, the handle intermediate of which and opening through one edge thereof and the opposed sides is the cut-out gap 3 having the relatively narrow channel 4 throughout the bottom thereof for the reception of the reciprocable U-shaped strip engaging saddle 5 which is guided in its reciprocal action by extending at all times into the channel It and if desired slidably resting upon the bottom of said channel.

The other two operable portions of the device comprise the pitman 6 which is slidably installed axially of the handle portion 2 with its innermost terminus extending within the opening 3 and screw-threadedly attached to the near leg of the saddle 5 and its opposite terminus being also screw threaded and protruding from the end of the handle for reception of the operating gnarled thumb knob 1 and by which the strip saddle is reciprocated.

The abrasion strip is shown at 8 and extends, when properly placed against both flat sides of the tapered body portion I and about the reduced narrow end of the body as well as about the opposite leg of the saddle 5 in the opening 3 and obviously by which said strip is most conveniently tightened Or loosened by the simple rotation of the knob 1.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An abrasion strip holder comprising: an integral body and handle portion, said body portion being tapered on two opposite sides gradually towards its outer end and having an arouately shaped lateral extension joining said body and handle portions; an opening intermediate of said handle and body portions; a reciprocable saddle-like carriage installed within said opening; a pitman reciprocably carried axially Within said handle having one end extending outwardly of said handle and the other end fixed to said carriage; and a thumb and finger knob screw-threadedly installed upon the outwardly extending end of said pitman for reciprocating same and said carriage.

2. An abrasion strip holder comprising: an integral tapered elongated body portion, a handle portion integral therewith and an arcuately shaped lateral extension joining said body and handle portions; an opening intermediate of .said handle and body portions, said opening having a channel along its bottom and its body portion side; a reciprocable, pitman operated, saddle installed within said opening and being guided in said channel; a pitman reciprocably carried axially within said handle having one end fixed to said saddle and the other end protruding outwardly from said handle; and a thumb and finger knob screw-threadedly installed upon the protruding end of said pitman for reciprocating said saddle.

An abrasion strip holder of the type described comprising: an integral elongated body and handle portion having an opening therebetween and an integral arcuately shaped lateral extension joining said body and handle; a revciprocable saddle-like carriage carried within said opening adapted to receive one bight of an endless abrasive strip; a pitman reciprocably carried axially within said handle and having one end fixed to said carriage and the other end extending outwardly from the end of said handle; and a screw-threaded thumb and finger knob on the outwardly extending end of said pitman for reciprocating said carriage and pitman simultaneously.

An abrasion strip holder of the type .described comprising: an elongated tapering body portion having a handle portion integral therewith; an opening between said body and handle portions substantially the extent of the width of said body portion; a later-ally extending, arcuately shaped extension integral with and joining said body and handle portions; 9, reciprocable, pitman operated, saddle-like carriage within said opening; and screw-threaded means for operating said pitman in reciprocating said carriage.

In an abrasion strip holder: an elongated tapering body and handle portion having an opening therebetween; an abrasive strip carried on said body portion intermediate of said opening and the outermost end of said body; means for tightening or loosening said strip comprising; a reciprocable saddle adapted to carry the portion of said strip extending within said opening, a pitman axially carried within said handle having one end fixed to said saddle and the other end protruding outwardly from the end of said handle, and a thumb and finger knob on said pitman whereby the rotation of said knob reciproates said saddle thereby tightening or loosening said strip.
