Description

July 29, 1947. R. LEWIS CIOM BINATION NEITHER GARMENT Filed' May 4, 1945 ROSE Laws v Patented July 29, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Claims.
. This invention relates to wearing apparel and particularly to an undergarment for women.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a combination bifurcated nether garment consisting of leg portions and a girdle portion and which is referred to as a panty girdle.
Another object is to provide a garment of this type, or panty girdle, which can be easily placed on and removed from the wearers body. This is a desirable feature particularly in hot weather when there is very apt to be considerable moisture, from perspiration, on the wearers body,
, which makes it somewhat difficult to don or remove bifurcated nether garments of the step-in type.
Still another object is to provide a panty girdle which can be readily and conveniently laundered.
A still'further object is toprovide a panty girdle in which the girdle portion is adequately reinforced particularly at the front and rear of the waist line and proximate portions of the wearersbody.
Another object is to provide an open crotch combination panty girdle.
, .More specifically, the invention contemplates a panty girdle of two-separate sections, each comprising a girdle portion and an attached leg portion and the two sections are adapted to be wrapped around the body and legs of the wearer in opposite directions. Each section is provided with suitable fastening elements whereby the two sections can be fastened at the'inside of the legs and at the hip line at opposite sides of the body, with the fastening elements of each section so arrangedthatthe garment, when assembled on the wearer s body will be open at the crotch.
With these andother objects in view the invention consists in certain details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts all as will hereinafter be more fully described and the novel features thereof particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present garment in its entirety; and
Fig. v2 is a plan view of one of the two sections constituting the garment.
As indicated the garment consists of the two separate sections A and B adapted to be folded or wrapped in opposite directions around the body and legs of the wearer and as the two sections are identical with one another, except that the fastening elements are reversed, only the section A is shown in plan for facilitating a detailed description of said sections. Referring particularly to Fig. 2, each section comprises a wide upper portion In which constitutes a girdle and .a comparatively narrow lower portion H which constitutes a leg portion, with a tapering intermediate portion [2 connecting said upper spective edges together when the garment is donned by the wearer. In the present instance these edges of the respective portions are shown as provided with that type of fastener now commonly referred to as zippers but ordinary buttons, hooks and eyes or snap fasteners, all of which are well known, maybe used. The fasteners for the edges of the girdle portions are shown at E3 and those for the edge of the legs at 14.
As stated, the two sectionsA and B, are adapted to be placed or wrapped on the wearer in opposite directions. For instance, as shown in Fig. 1, section B is first placed against the right side of the wearers body with the vertical me.- dial portion of the section indicated by the line l5 in Fig. 2, in registry with the hip after which the girdle portion 19 is wrapped .around the front andback of the wearers Waist and the two edges secured together at the left side of the body. The leg portion ll of section B is then wrapped around the thigh or upperportion of the wearers leg and its edges fastened together along the inside of the leg. Section A is then similarly donned, except that it is placed against the wearers left side and the edges of the girdle portion l0 fastened together at the right side and the side edges of the leg portion II secured together at the inside of the left leg.
When thus assembled on the wearer, the girdle portion of section A overlies the girdle portion of section B around and adjacent the waist line, depending upon thelength of said girdle portions. In other words, adjacent thewaist line, each section of the garment might be said to extend from one side of the assembled garment around the front, opposite side and back of the garment with the two edges secured together at the first mentioned side. These portions will, of course,
be made and styled to fit different waist sizes vening tapered portion l2, the assembled garment has an opencrotch, a feature which minimizes laundering as compared with bifurcated nether garments having a closed crotch. In this connection, it will also be appreciated that the present garment can be laundred with the greatest convenience due to the fact that each section can be opened out fiat to facilitate washing as well as drying. And, incidentally,'as the reinforcing efiect obtained by the double ply arrangement previously described eliminates the use of zone reinforcing members and permits the use of comparatively light weight fabrics, the drying of the garment is appreciably augmented after washing.
The present garment formed of separate sections adapted to merely be wrapped around the waist and legs of the wearer, has a still further advantage as compared with an undergarment which the wearer dons by stepping into it and dofis by pulling it from the waist down over the hips and thighs. For instance, due to the presence of perspiration on ones flesh, it is quite difficult to don or remove a garment of the stepin girdle type whereas all these difficulties are eliminated with what might be called the wraparound garment of the present invention.
Stated briefly, therefore, the present garment is comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, it requires less laundering although it is comparatively easy to launder when necessary, it is amply reinforced at the waist more or less inherently and it can be put on and removed by the wearer quickly and easily at all times.
Due to the fact that in manufacturing the garment, the sections will be patterned or modeled in different styles and, of course, in difierent sizes, the present illustration is more or less diagrammatical particularly in the sense that no seams are illustrated, as each section may be formed from a single piece of fabric or if made from two or more pieces, these individual pieces may vary in size and shape. In any event, the two sections are duplicates of one another, except for the reversal of the fastening elements, which, of course, tends to minimize production costs.
What I claim is:
1. A combination nether garment composed of two separate detached complemental sections adapted to be wrapped around the wearers body from opposite sides thereof, each section comprising a waist encircling girdle portion of a Width substantially corresponding to the girth of the waist line of the garment and sufl'icient to extend from one side of the wearers body around the back, front and opposite side thereof and a leg encircling portion, the respective girdle portions of the two sections having normally detached free edges meeting at opposite sides of the garment, and fastening means for securing said meeting edges of each section together, the girdle portions of the two sections overlying each other at the front and back of the garment.
2. A combination nether garment composed of two separate detached sections each section comprising a leg portion .adapted to be wrapped around one of the wearers legs with the side edges of said portion meeting at the inside of the wearers leg and a waist encircling girdle portion extending upwardly from the leg portion of an increased width to extend entirely around the front, back and one side of the garment adjacent the waist line thereof with the side edges of said girdle portions of the respective sections meeting at the opposite side of the garment, the waist encircling girdle portions of the two sections of the garment overlying each other at the front and back of the garment, and fastening elements for securing together the meeting side edges of each leg portion, and separate fastening elements for securing together the meeting side edges of each girdle portion.
3.
