inv nt on re a s t t ys.
Qne object of the invention is to provide a wheeled toy embodying, among other characteristics, a figure composed of sections which may e reversed with relation to one another and without destroying the simulated representation of the figure of the toy.
Another object is to provide a figure toy including a body portion composed of separable and reversible sections which may be reversed as to position of one part with relation to another part without destroying the identity of the figure.
Another object of the invention is to provide a wheeled toy having a pull string so connected to the toy that the toy may be pulled by one and the same string from either end of the string.
A still further object is to provide a wheeled figure toy composed of separable and reversible parts which may be positioned to dispose the head of the figure toward either end of the toy and pulled from either end of the toy, with the front of the figure pointing in the direction of the line of pull..
It is still further an object to provide a toy representative of a duck, wherein the upper portion of the body of the duck is detachably and reversibly connected to the lower body portion thereof so as to assume in one position of the duck the attitude of the duck as walking forwardly or, in another position, poised or assuming an eating, drinking or swimming position, there being a pull string having connection with the toy so that the toy can be pulled forwardly from either end with ,the duck positioned to follow forwardly in either of said positions in accordance with the direction of pull on the string and without destroying the identity of the duck or other representation.
In the drawings:
Fig. l is a perspective View of one embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same;
Fig. 3 is aside elevation illustrating the upper body portion of the figure reversed as to position on the lower body portion of the figure;
"Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the invention;
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional View of the invention; and
Fig. 6 is a modification of the invention.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the reference characters I and 8 indicate upper and lower separable body portions simulating theupper and lower body portions of a, duck or other figure. The figure may be representative of a fowl, bird, animal, human string. These cups or other or whatnot and the representation of a duck has been shown merely for the purpose of illustrating the present invention and in which the head is indicated at a, the tall at b, the mouth at c and the eyes at d. a
The lower body portion 8 is illustrated as mounted on front and rear wheels 9 and L0, respectively, carried by front and rear axles VH and E2, respectively, journalled in the ends of the body portion :8. The body portions 1 and 8 and the wheels 9 and Ill and the axles ;l l and I2 may be composed of wood; or, all or some of these elements may be composed .of other suitable material.
The top of the lower body portion B, as shownin Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, is flat and formed on a forward upwardly directed incline, presenting an inclined fiat face l3.
Spaced pins or the like Is and 15 of wood or other suitable material project upwardly from said fiat face l3 of the lower firmly and substantially anchored in the lowerbody portion 8, as shown particularly in The lower body portion 8 is provided with a longitudinally extending passage l6 opening through the front and rear ends of the body portion 8, as best shown in Fig. 5.
A pull string I! is slidably disposed in the said open-ended passage l6 and at its ends carries finger grasping. elements l8 and I9. These finger grasping elements !8 and I9 may be in the form of cups and the opposite ends of the pull string I! may be knotted in the respective cups, as at 20, to secure the cups to the ends of the pull finger grasping elements l8 and l9 are adapted to be drawn, by the pull string ll, into abutting relation, interchangeably, with the front and rear ends of the lower body portion 8 so as to pull the toy with either the front or the rear end of the body portion 8 and the head of the figure moving forwardly in the direction of the line of pull on the string H.
The bottom of the upper body portion 1' of the figure is flat, as shown in Figs. 1 to 5, inelusive, and is inclined rearwardly and downwardly to form a flat inclined face 21 for flush meeting contact with the flat face l3 of the lower body portion 8, and is provided with spaced sockets 22 and 23 adapted to detachably receive the aforesaid spaced pins l4 and 15, respectively, projecting upwardly from the lower body portion 8.
Thus the upper body portion I may be readily detached from the lower body portion 8; or, the upper body portion I may be reversed in body portion, being position on the lower body portion, that is to say, the upper body portion 1 may be changed from its position on the lower body portion 8 from that shown in Figs. 1, 2, 4 and to the reversed position shown in Fig. 3 without changing the general outlines or identity of the figure, in this instance, a duck. In Figs. 1, 2, 4 and 5 the duck is positioned as in a walking attitude while in Fig. 3 the duck assumes a'position' as when eating, drinking or swimming.
The further result is that by means of the longitudinal passage i6 and the reversible positioning of the upper body portion 7 on the lower body portion 8 and the pull stringll, operating in the longitudinal passage 6, the toy may be pulled from either end thereof with the head of the duck pointing in the direction of the line or pull on the string ll. obtainable if the meeting faces l3 and 2! of the body portions l and 8' are curved, as at 24, in the modification illustrated in Fig. 6, rather he same results are and a pull string slidable in the said opening to reverse the direction of pull on the string when the body portions. are reversed, whereby the toy may be pulled forwardly by the pull string in either of the positions of the reversible body portions.
3. A Wheeled pull toy consisting of upper and lower body portions, the lower bod portion having an openlongitudinal passage therein, cooperating means on said body portions for detachably securing the two body portions together and for enabling the upper and lower body portions 7 to be reversed with respect to each other, and a pull string slidable in the passage of the lower body portion to reverse the direction of pull on the string when the body portions are reversed, whereby the toy may be pulled forwardly by the pull string in either of the positions of the reversible body portions.
than straight,.as.shown in Figs. 1 to '5, inclusive,
the modification in Fig. 6 being otherwise the same as in Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive.
The essential features of both forms of the invention go to the reversible characteristics of the body portions of the figure and the pull string slidable on the toyand so associated with the latter as to provide for pull on either end of said string to pull the toy with the front of the figure facing toward the direction of pull. The lowerportion of the body of the figure is in fact a wheeled toy, even if the upper body portion be removed from the lower body portion and the latter may be pulled in either of two directions by the pull string because of the latter being slidably connected to the toy, whereby to bring an end element of the string into engagement either with the front or rear end of the toy. V
It is to be understood that the pull strin may be slidably connected to the toy otherwise than as shown and described and that the end elementsof the pull strin may be other than of cup form, so long as departure is not made from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is: r

body portions having spaced projecting pins and the other body portion having spaced sockets to detachably receive said pins interchangeably in 'a reversible mounting of the upper body portion on the lower body'portion, and a pull string slidable in the passage of the lower body portion, whereby to pull the toy forwardly from either end of the figure. e
2. A wheeled pull toy figure consisting of upper and lower body portions, the lower body portion being provided with a string'receiving opening, cooperating means on said body portions for detachably securing the two body portions together andfor enabling the upper and lower body portionsto be reversed with respect to each other,
4. A wheeled pull toy comprising a body including upper and lower sections cooperating to form a headed figure and with the upper sectio n carrying the headof the figure, the upper I pull the toy in one direction and upon a reversed pull on the string the other string end element is brought into engagement with another portion of the lower section to pull the toy in the opposite direction.
5. A wheeled pull'figure toy including a body composed of upper and lower body portions each having a front and a-rear end, means for securing the body portions together to allow one body portion to be reversed with respect to the other body portion, the lower body portion having a longitudinal passage therein opening outwardly at the front and rear ends thereof, and apull string with enlarged elements at each end thereof slidable insaid passage so that one of said ele- 'ments engages either the front or rear end of REFERENCES or an The following references are of record in the .file of this patent:
