My invention consists of a mitten having a I5 two-ply wrist, singleply back, and singlerply front or palm, and single-ply thumb, all knit in a continuous piece, and th'e palm and thumb covered with leather.

the edge a is overstitched, and the border-pieces E and F attached and overstitched at one edge, as shown at G in Fig. 2; also the leather thumb H' is nrst made wrong side out,bya throughand-through stitch, and then attached to the 35 palm-leather A by a double seam or throughand-through stitch. Now, the leather is all ready to be attached to the knit blank, Fig. 1. The palm-leather and border-strips are first united by a through-andthrough stitch, which is done while the leathers are turned wrong side out. Then the palm-leather A and border-strips E and F and thumb-leather H are placed on the knit blank, all being right side out, and the leather attached to the knit blank 45 by any suitable stitch, but most conveniently by a machine, (and a through-and-through stitch,) the arm of the machine working inside of the mitten and carrying the needle and feed.
Having thus described my invention, l 5o claim- A mitten having a two-ply wrist, single-ply back, single-,ply palm, and a thumb, all knit in one continuous piece, substantially as set forth.
