SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 241,766, dated May 17, 1881.

To all whom it 'may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD WHITEHoUsE,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State 5 0f New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hat or Bonnet Frames, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention is a new manufacture, consisting of abat-frame or a bonnetframe made 1o of grass-cloth.

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which represents a vertical cross-section. il

In carrying out my invention I take apiece 5 of grass-c1othas, for example, that made from 2o a frame which is extremely light, not liable to break, owing to the inherent toughness and elasticity of the material.

If desired, the grass-cloth used may be colored to suit the taste o1' fancy of buyers; and inasmuch as this material can be obtained in almost any quantity and at low cost, and can be dyed without diiculty, my improved frame is a useful substitute for those hitherto used.

On acconntof its superiorli gh tness, my frame is particularly adapted for the hot season.

What I claim as new, and` desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V As a new article of manufacture, a honnetframe or hat-frame made of grass-cloth, substantially as set forth.
