This invention relates to improvements in dispensing box or container.

The main objects of this invention are:

First, to provide a dispensing box or carton which effectively protects the contents when the carton is closed and at the same time -may be readily opened to afford access to the contents, permitting the withdrawal thereof without complete opening of the box or distortion thereof.

Second, to provide a carton having these advantages which provides an effective closure for the dispensing opening of the carton.

Third, to provide a carton of this character which is simple and economical in structure.

Objects relating to details and economies of the invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.

A carton which embodies the features of the invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the closed carton of my invention.

Fig. 2 is a transverse section with the dispensing closure open to dispensing position, a sheet of material being partially withdrawn.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary plan view of the blank from which the carton is formed.

Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view showing further details of the structure.

The embodiment of the invention illustrated is formed of an integral blank and comprises a top wall I having end walls 2 joined thereto by folding scores 3 and side walls 4 joined to the top wall by the folding scores 5. The side walls have complementary bottom members 6 while the end walls have bottom members 1, these bottom members being joined to their respective side and end walls by means of the hinge scores 8. The bottom members are sealed together after the contents are placed in the carton. The details of this sealing is not illustrated but will be understood by those skilled in the art.

The contents 9 are desirably arranged in the container in interfolded relation to facilitate withdrawal so that when one sheet of material is withdrawn the end of the next sheet is partially withdrawn to grasping position. These interfolded stacks of sheet material are well known in the art.

The side and end members are provided with integral bellows fold corner members I hingedly connected to the ends of the side and end members by the scores I I and having diagonal scores I2 which permit the folding of the corner otherwise, the end walls are provided with ver-' tical slits I6 alined with the fracturing line of the top. The top is also provided with weakened lines, either in the form of scores or Spaced slits providing hinges 20 for the sections I! between the fracturing line and these hinges.

The end walls have diagonal fracturing lines I8 extending from the ends of the hinges to the lower ends of the slits I6. In opening, pressure may be applied to the triangular end portions I9 of the closure which causes fracture along the fracturing lines I8. The top may then be readily fractured along the fracturing line I3. This enables the closure sections to be opened to permit grasping of the first sheet of the stack. Pull on the sheet will withdraw that sheet and also lift the interfolded sheet to grasping position. After the sheet is withdrawn the closure members may be pressed down to substantially closed position with the end of the next sheet to be withdrawn projecting between their adjacent edges.

The closure members serve to provide substantial protection for the contents after the carton has been opened.

I have illustrated and described my invention in a practical embodiment thereof. It will be understood that the terms top and ends are used mainly for convenience in description as cartons or containers of this type are sometimes supported in an inverted position, or in sidewise or endwise in suitable holders as may be desired.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A dispensing carton comprising a top wall, and end walls integral therewith, the top wall having a central fracturing line extending from end to end thereof and comprising spaced relatively long slits and relatively short strips between said long slits, the end walls having slits diagonally disposed fracturing lines extending from said hinge lines to the outer ends of said slots in said end walls, the top wall sections between said hinge lines when the Walls are fractured along said fracturing lines constituting closure members swingable to oppositely inclined positions and from between which the contents of the carton may be withdrawn. i

2. A dispensing carton comprising a top wall,

and end walls integral therewith, the top Wall having a fracturing line extending from end to 7 end thereof, the end walls havingfracturi-ng lines extending from the ends of the fracturing line of the top, the top wall also having weakened hin e lines parallel to and spaced from its fracturing line, the end walls having diagonally disposed fracturing lines extending from said hinge lines to the outer ends of the fracturing lines of said end walls, the wall sections between said hinge lines when the walls are fractured along said fracturing lines constituting closure members swingable oppositely and from between which the contents of the carton maybe withdrawn.
