This invention relates to sliders for use on separable fastener stringers to couple and uncouple the stringers. More particularly, the invention relates to devices of this kind wherein the slider body is composed of separate die cast parts coupled together and reinforced by a coupling yoke preferably of a material stronger than the material employed in the cast body portions of the sliders. Means is also provided for keying the yoke to the body parts of the slider, as well as in keying said parts together in maintaining alinement of the opposed walls of the slider.
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following descriptions when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed, and in which the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views; and in which:

In the construction of sliders, and particularly when the slider body is composed of materials which are relatively weak, these sliders have been objectionable from the standpoint of the tendency to spread the Walls of the sliders, sometimes to the degree of improper functionin of the slider to couple and uncouple the stringers, or to cause the slider to jam on the stringer.
To overcome these objections to sliders, and
particularly sliders formed from east or molded materials, I employ a reinforcing yoke of a material stronger than the materials employed in forming the slider body or the separate parts of the slider body. This yoke is mounted upon the slider body so as to engage both walls, and extends longitudinally throughout the major portion of the length of the wallstomai-ntain'proper spacing of the walls at all times. In constructing the slider body of zinc, aluminum or brass die cast- 2 ings, the yoke will preferably b composed of steel or other materials stronger than the metals employed in the casting. On the other hand, when the slider body is composed of plastic materials, either molded or die cast, the reinforcing or coupling yoke can be composed of any type and kind of material, for example, fiber or metal, or of a die cast metal.
Whil the invention is applicable to sliders of a solid construction, for purposes of illustrating one adaptation of the invention I have shown the same applied to slider bodies composed of separate wall parts. In Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, the slider is composed of a top wall l6, and bottom wall ll, said walls havin at th wide end thereof inwardly extending webs l2 and lit. At 2| is showna reinforcing and coupling member in th form of a yoke, preferably made from a fiat sheet of material. The member 2-! comprises two arms 22 and 23 joined by a cross head 24. The arm 22 is wider than the arm 23, and
. has an elongated opening 25 therein, which forms the loop for attachment of the finger piece or pull, not shown, to the slider. When the member 2| is attached, the loop 25 is disposed above the wall [0.
Both arms 22 and 23' terminate at their free ends in projecting tongues 25 and 27!, which are adapted to be bent or peened over in engaging the bevelled surfaces [9 and 20 to retain the yoke member against displacement from the slider walls.
It will be understood that by constructing the slider body of the separat parts as herein illustrated, the construction of these parts is materially simplified as compared with the solid unitary structure. The twowalls l0 and H are keyed against rotary'or swinging movement through the socket l4 and key member i5, and against separation by the reinforcing and coupling yoke 2|.
Instead of using a fiat yoke, disposed perpendicularly upon the wall I1) and I I, I may also 3 employ a flat yoke 28, as illustrated in Figs. 4 to 6 inclusive. This yoke comprises a flat strip of metal, which is fashioned to U-shape form. To strengthen and reinforce the flat U-shaped strip, the side edges of the stripinclude inturned flanges 28, which extend along both arms 30 and 31, as well as through the cross head 32. The flanges 29 extend into recesses or channels 33 arranged at transversely spaced intervals and extending longitudinally of both walls Illa and Ha of a slider body which otherwise is of the same construction as the walls HI and H.
In other words, instead of having one longitudinal channel, such as the channels H and 18, each wall has two channels,- and at the ends of the channels the Wall will have recesses 33 similar to the recesses l9 and to receive projections 34 and at the free ends of the arms 38, 3!, which are turned inwardly, after the yoke 28 is assembled to retain the yoke against displacement the same as is taught in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
From a consideration of Fig. 5, it will appear that the yoke 28 is of a width corresponding to the width of the widest part of the web 36, and the flange 29 enter recesses 31 formed in this web, so as to provide unobstructed channels in the slider body.
The arm 30, which normally is disposed at the top wall of the slider is also stamped out centrally and longitudinally to provide an outwardly projecting loop portion 38 to provide means for attachment of a conventional finger' piece or pull.
The arms and cross head of the reinforcement 28 may be said to be of channel cross sectional form, and in the construction shown, these channels are shallow so that the inner surfaces of the channel fit snugly upon the walls Illa and Na of the slider, as well as the web 36. It will be apparent, however, that by providing deeper channels, the abutment above referred to would be dispensed with. V
In Figs. 4 to 6 inclusive, the reinforcement is indicated more or less as a product of sheet material. It will be understood, however, that when the slider body is composed of plastics, the

l. A slider for separable fasteners comprising separate upper and lower wall parts, the inner surfaces of said parts provided with upstanding web portions having abutting faces and spacing the wall parts a distance equal to the combined height of said web portions, the said abutting faces having interlocking means to prevent relative rotary movement therebetween, the outer surfaces of said wall parts having longitudinal, open-ended recesses therein, a U-shaped yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts in engagement with said recesses, and the free ends of said arms having portions adapted to be clamped to the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
2. A slider for separable fasteners comprising separate upper and lower wall parts, the inner surfaces of said parts provided with upstanding web portions having abutting faces and spacing the wall parts a distance equal to the combined height of said Web portions, the said abutting faces having interlocking means to prevent rel- 4 ative rotary movement therebetween, the outer surfaces of said wall parts having longitudinal, open-ended recesses therein, a U-shaped yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall part in engagement with said recesses, and means to secure the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
3. A slider for separable fasteners comprising separate upper and lower wall parts, the inner surfaces of said parts provided with upstanding web portions having abutting faces and spacing the wall parts a distance equal to the combined height of said web portions, the said abutting faces having interlocking mean to prevent relative rotary movement therebetween, a U-shaped rigid yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts to hold the same against separation, and the free ends of said arms having portions adapted to be clamped to the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
4. A slider for separable fasteners comprising separate upper and lower wall parts, the inner surfaces of said parts provided with upstanding web portions having abutting faces and spacing the wall parts adistance equal to the combined height of said web portions, the said abutting faces having interlocking means to prevent relative rotary movement therebetween, a U-shaped yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts to hold the same against separation, and means to secure the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
5. A slider for separable fasteners comprising separate upper and lower wall parts, the inner surfaces of said parts provided with upstanding web portions havingabutting faces and spacing the wall parts a distance equal to the combined height of said web portions, the outer surfaces of said wall parts having longitudinal, open-ended recesses therein, a U-shaped rigid yoke member havin its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts in engagement with said recesses, and the free ends of said arms havin portions adapted to be clamped to the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
6. A slider for separable fasteners comprising separate upper and lower wall parts, the inner surfaces of said parts provided with upstanding web portions having abutting faces and spacing the wall parts a distance equal to the combined height of said web portions, the outer surfaces of said wall parts having longitudinal, openended recesses therein, a, U-shaped yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts in engagement with said recesses, and means to secure the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
7. A slider for separable fasteners comprising uppe and lower wall parts spaced apart by a web portion adjacent one end of said parts, the outer surfaces of said wall parts having longitudinal, open-ended recesses therein, a U-shaped rigid yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts in engagement with said recesses, and the free ends of said arms having portions adapted to be clamped to the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
8. A slider for separable fasteners comprising upper and lower wall parts spaced apart by web portions integral therewith and adjacent one end of saidparts, the outer surfaces of said wall parts having longitudinal, open-ended recesses therein, a U-shaped yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts in engagement with said recesses, and means to secure the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
9. A slider for separable fasteners comprising upper and lower wall parts spaced apart by a web portion adjacent one end of said parts, a U-shaped rigid yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts to hold the same against spreading, interlocking means between the said web portion and the transverse portion of the yoke member, and the free ends of the arms of said member having portions adapted to be clamped to such member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
10. A slider for separable fasteners comprising upper and lower wall parts spaced apart by a web portion adjacent one end of said parts, a U-shaped yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to telescope over the wall parts to hold the same against spreading, interlocking means between the said web portion and the transverse portion of the yoke member, and means to secure the yoke member against withdrawal from the wall parts.
11. A slider for separable fasteners comprising upper and lower wall parts spaced apart by a web portion adjacent one end of said parts, the outer surface of each of said wall parts havin two spaced recesses therein, a yoke member having its arms spaced apart and adapted to telescope over the wall parts in engagement with all of said recesses, and means to secure the yoke member against withdrawal from the said wall parts.
12. A slider comprising a body having channels, said body being defined by spaced walls, the outer surfaces of said walls having longitudinal recesse opening outwardly through one end of the walls, a yoke member having its arms spaced and adapted to slidably engage the recesses of the slider walls in coupling the member with the slider, and means retaining said member against displacement from the slider.
13. A slider comprising a body having ch'annels, said body being defined by spaced walls joined at one end by a connecting web, the outer surface on at least one wall of the slider having an elongated recess opening :through one end of said wall, a finger piece mounting member slidably engaging the recess in said wall of the slider in coupling said member with the slider, and means on said member cooperating with the slider to retain said member in coupled position on the slider to retain the same against displacement therefrom.
14. In sliders comprising a body having channels, said body being defined by spaced walls, the walls having parallel recesses extending longitudinally of outer surfaces thereof and opening through one end of said walls, a yoke-shaped pull attaching member, said member comprising spaced arms joined at one end in a cross-head, means on one arm to couple a pull therewith, and both of said arms having inturned side flanges adapted to engage with the parallel recesses in the walls of a slider.

In sliders comprising a body having channels, said body being defined by spaced walls, the walls having parallel recesses extending longitudinally of outer surfaces thereof and opening through one end of said walls, a yoke-shaped pull attaching member, said member comprising spaced arms joined at one end in a cross-head, means on one arm to couple a pull therewith, both of said arms having inturned side flanges adapted to engage with the parallel recesses in the walls of a slider, and the cross-head of said member including inturned flanges continuous with the flanges of said arms.
