SECURING MEANS FOR HOLDERS 0F THERM IONIG VALVES, AND THE LIKE- Filed Oct. 14,- 1943 Inve n 20 r:
- 6220 e Wagsitfi Patented May 28, 1946 SECURING MEANS FOR HOLDERS OF THERMIONIC VALVES AND THE LIKE George Wagstafi, Long Eaton, England Application October 14, 1943, Serial No. 506,294
In Great Britain October 14, 1942 1 Claim. 7 (Cl. 248--27) This invention relates to means for securing thermionic valve and like holders to apertured supports and more particularly to securing means for holders of the kind having a fiange or the like adapted to rest on one face of the support with part of the body of the holder extending through an aperture in the support.
According to the present invention the securing means comprises an annular member pro-' vided with a series of flexible inwardly projecting fingers having substantially broad free edges, at least one of said fingers having its free edge formed to cooperate with part of the body of the holder to locate the holder in correct position on the support. The locating means may comprise a broad straight-edged finger adapted to engage a fiat on the base of the holder. The annular member'may be provided with resilient means for engaging the support to urge the holder on to the support and prevent any axial movement or shake.
To enable the invention to be fully understood it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the device secured to the base of a valve holder, and
Fig. 2 is a side view of the device securing a valve holder to a support.
As shewn in the accompanying drawing the securing device comprises a dish-shaped metal rim I having three inwardly projecting yieldable fingers 2 at equally spaced parts of the inner periphery of the rim. The free edges 3 of the.
fingers are slightly concave and are of substantial breadth and define a circle of slightly less diameter than that of the projecting part 4 of the holder 5. Between the fingers 2 are fingers 6 and two of these are cut back to provide a clearance for the part 4 and the remaining finger is formed with a broad straight fiat edge 1 adapted to co-operate with a flat edge 8 on the part 4 to position the parts correctly.
The outer edge of the rim I- is provided with three resilient lugs 9.
To secure the holder 5 to the support H! the projecting part 4 is inserted through the aperture in the support until the flange I l on the holder rests on the underface of the support Ill.
The securing device is then inserted over the part 4 with the edge I aligned for engaging the flat 8. The securing device is then forced toward the support over the part 4 by hand or by means of a suitable tool, until the lugs 9 are compressed against the upper face of the support In to hold theparts against rattling or working loose. As the device is forced over the part 4 the fingers 3 are flexed slightly, as shown in Fig. 2, andmake a firm gripping contact with the wall of the part I i 4. Thus the securing device holds a socket or like member firmly in position relative to a support without being attached to the support, but merely by the contact between the fingers 3 and the part 4 and contact between the lugs 9 and the support In.
I claim:
A device for securing thermionic valve holders, plugs and the like to aperturedsupports, said device comprising a dish-shaped annular member having a central aperture to receive a portion of the part to be secured to the support, a series of flexible inwardly projecting fingers on said annular member at said central aperture,
said fingers having substantially .broad free edges adapted to grip part of a device projecting through said aperture and resilient lugs extending outwardly from the outer edge of said'dish-shaped member to bear against one face of the support to cooperate with the series of flexible fingers for the purpose described.
