Patented Mar. 7, 1950 UNITED s TATE 5 PATENT OFFICE PHOTOGRAPH MOUNTING DEVICE El'gin W. Spreen, Seattle, Wash.
27, 1946, Serial No. 699,905
' 4c1aims. (01. 40-1521) Application September The presentinvention relates to photographmounting devices and more particularly to display stands suitable for mounting a plurality of photographs. I
It is a principal object of the present mvention to provide a new and improved photograph mounting device which Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing while the features of novelty will be pointed out with greater particularity in the appended claims.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a view in perspective illustrating the photograph mounting device constructed in accordance with one form of the present invention; Fig. 2 is a view in perspective illustrating certain parts in a partially assembled condition; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the supporting base member; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the lower surface of the cap member.
Referring now to the drawings the photograph mounting device comprises two pairs of sheets. Ill and II. The sheets of each pair are preferably of the same size and configuration and, while not necessary, the two pairs may be similar to each other. Furthermore the two pairs of sheets are of the same height and the bottom edges of each pair are adjacent and parallel to each other and the top edges of each pair are adjacent and parallel to each other.
One of the pairs of sheets, such as pair Ill, may be notched upwardly from the lower edge while the other pair Il may be notched downwardly from the upper edge as indicated at l2 in Fig. 2, the notches extending at least one-half the height of the pairs whereby they may be cooperatively assembled together in an interfitting relation extending at right angles with respect to each other as shown in Fig. 1.
is adaptable for mounting a plurality of photographs, which device is fur- The sheets of each pair are adapted for receiving photographs therebetween on each of the opposite sides of the notches l2 as indicated at M and I5. At least one of the sheets of each pair 'is transparent in order that the photographs mounted therebetween may be visible therethrough. A corner of the transparent sheet is shown broken away at [6 in Fig. 2. If desiredboth sheets of each pair may be transparent, in which case two photographs may be mounted back to back between each pair of sheets on each of the opposite sides of the notches. While the sheets may be of any suitable material it is preferred to make them of clear, transparent plastic for ease of manufacture and particularly as regards the provision of the notches l2 therein. It is to be understood, however, that the sheets may be made of, stiff opaque material with cut-out openings therein behind which the photographs may.
be mounted and through which the photographs may be viewed.
Means are provided for securing the outer edge portions of the photograph mounting sheets together thus to prevent them from spreading and permitting the photographs to slip from the assembled position therebetween. As illustrated a base member I! may be provided having a pair of right angularly intersecting grooves l8 and 19 in the upper surface thereof which grooves are adapted for receiving the lower edge portions of the assembled pairs of sheets [0 and II. A cap member 2| is also provided in the lower surface of which is formed a pair of right angularly extending grooves 22 and 23 for cooperatively receiving the upper edge portions of the assembled pairs of sheets [0 and I l. While I have shown the base and cap members I! and 2| as being flat and rectangular, it is to be understood that these members may be round or any other suitable shape. It will furthermore be obvious that other suitable means may be provided for securing the pairs of mounting sheets together in the assembled relation.
Having described the invention in what is considered to be a certain preferred embodiment thereof it is desired that it be understood that the specific details shown are merely illustrative and that the invention may be carried out by other means.
What I claim is: I
l. A photograph mounting device comprising two pairs of transparent sheets having parallel top and bottom edges, one of said pairs being notched upwardly from the bottom edge thereof, the other of said pairs being notched downwardly from the upper edge thereof, said notches extending at least one-half the height of said pairs whereby said pairs may be cooperatively assembled in a substantially right angularly extending relation, a base having a pair of right angularly intersecting grooves in the upper surface for cooperatively receiving the bottom edges of said sheets, a cap member having a pair of right angularly intersecting grooves in the lower surface for cooperatively receiving the upper edge portions of said pairs of sheets.
2. A photograph mounting device comprising two pairs of sheets having parallel top and bottom edges, at least one of each of said pairs of sheets being of transparent material, one of said pairs being notched upwardly from the bottom edge thereof, the other of said pairs being notched downwardly from the upper edge thereof, said notches extending at least one-half the height of said pairs whereby said pairs may be cooperative- 1y assembled in a substantially right angularly extending relation, said pairs of sheets being adapted for receiving a photograph therebetween visible through the transparent sheet, a supporting base having a pair of right angularly inters ecting grooves in the upper surface thereof for cooperatively receiving the bottom edges of said pairs of sheets, a cap member having a pair of right angularly intersecting grooves in the lower surface thereof for cooperatively receiving the V upper edge portions of said pairs of sheets.
3'. A photograph mounting device comprising two pairsor sheets having parallel top and bottom edges, at least one of each of said pairs being transparent, one of said pairs being notched upwardly from the bottom edge thereof, the other of said pairs being notched downwardly from the upper edge thereof, said notches extending at least one-half the height of said pairs whereby said pairs may be cooperatively, assembled together in a substantially right angularly extending relation, said pairs being adapted for receiving therebe'tween a photograph on each of the opposite sides of said notches and visible through 4 the transparent sheets, a supporting base having grooves formed therein for cooperatively and loosely receiving the lower edge portions of said assembled pairs, and means for fitting over the upper edges of each of said pairs of said sheets for holding them relatively together.
4. A' photograph mounting device comprising two pairs of sheets having parallel top and bottom edges, said pairs being of substantially the same height, one of said pairs being notched upwardly from the bottom edge thereof, the other of said pairs being notched downwardly from the upper edge thereof, the width of said notches being slightly greater than the combined thickness of one of said pairs of sheets with a pho 'tograph therebetween, said notches extending at least one-half the height of said pairs whereby said pairs may be cooperatively assembled together in a right angularly extending relation, said sheets being adaptedto receive photographs 'therebetween oneach of the" opposite sides of said notches and visible through one of said-sheets, a baseiiiember having'a flat upper surface and a pair of right angularly intersecting grooves formed therein, the width of said grooves being slightly greater than the combined thickness of one of said pairs of sheets witha photograph therbetween, said grooves being adapted for receiving therein the loweredge portions of said assembled sheets for retaining said sheets in an upright assion.
